Whoa... I'm glad I re-watched the video before ordering the capacitors you have listed above -- those part numbers are for radial-lead THROUGH-HOLE capacitors, not SURFACE-MOUNT caps!
@DRDCC4 жыл бұрын
Bally Astrocade That is what most people prefer. We only use smd now unless the board it damaged and you have to get creative.
@ballyastrocade56724 жыл бұрын
@@DRDCC Oh -- so there's really enough spare clearance around the caps to use through-hole parts instead? (I haven't opened my DC-10 up yet to look, but I kind of assumed the spacing would be too tight, or they'd've used through-hole parts in the first place.) I have access to an SMD rework station with desoldering "tweezers" to heat both SMD leads at the same time, so I don't mind working with surface-mount components, but if through-holes can be made to fit just as easily, then I withdraw the objection... :-)
@DRDCC4 жыл бұрын
Bally Astrocade Yes they do fit. We used them on the first 100 machines or so. Now that we have better tools and understanding on how to remove the old smd (it is not simple as the acid leaking has glued them down), we switched a couple of years ago to smd.

The customer for this machine wanted to use it and that means that we had to change them. The acid from the capacitors even leak when you are not using it.

what I do not understand why are the capacitors defective? that is not that old the device some devices work over 40 years
@DRDCC6 жыл бұрын
Most devices that used SMD capacitors In the early 90ies, suffer from leakage. The first generation SMD capacitors were really bad, but they did not find out until 8-10 years later. For a lot of devices it does not matter that much when the capacitors die (you simply replace them when they do), but with dcc, the acid leaking can/will destroy also other components, potentially ending the life of the dcc player. That is why you would have to replace the SMD capacitors.

I really hope I can fix mine, the board has a lot of oxidation and loose pcb traces near the caps... especially the big ones. So i managed to solder the 68uf ones back using the "shielding" the negative part of the board as spots. but also got a small one that has both traces gone it just fell of the pcb when tapped it with my soldering iron... The reason I hope is because maybe something else has just been oxidation and not able to find out where the issue is. I cannot use a sonic bath so what is your best advice? i did soak it in 99% cleaning alcohol and use a brush to brush off all nasty stuff (alcohol went from transparent to brown). And maybe clean it with water and soap later on? (i hear a lot of people do a last clean with water and dish soap). I still need to receive some capacitors so i hope it works after replacing them.
