Nice repair video. I was a tech at a Panasonic repair center in Nashville, which closed in 1990. I was the "turntable guy" for the most part, but also worked on the high end Technics amps and preamps. The Technics direct drive turntables were not difficult to repair, but the linear tracking models could be a big pain in the butt. I saw more of them in for repair than the standard direct drive turntables. I still own a SL-DL1 linear tracking and a 1980 model SL-1200MK2 direct drive.

Nice repair video as always I been working on some turntables too, last one was my dads 1990 era Pioneer turntable with multiple issues it was a few years back but I remember I needed to adjust the mechanics for auto return home. Fit a new belt and a proper cleaning and relube all moving parts, did the cassette decks on the same system and it was not easy finding parts for the old Alps decks. I remember the pure luck when I found some NOS similar decks where I could replace the auto reverse tone head and the pinch rollers, I was a mess for my dad as a kid I destroyed everything he owned lol he came home from work to find his favorite radio in 1 million pieces. But these days he is a lot more proud of me as he has his own service technician lol, got my self through the electrics school between 2014 and 2017 and now I am looking for a work as an installation electrician. It was kind of fun when I came back to the same school i got expelled from in 1995, and I got the same teacher 19 years later LMAO for the look on the face of the teacher when I was back hahaha. But it was nice to be back and have the same teacher again, Mats was a really nice and intelligent teacher had much fun programming PLC's in the education of the scool. Joe how did you get into this field?

Congratulations on the video and the techniques shown in it. I have an SL 1900 and I need to have it serviced, it works very well, but since I purchased it, and it's been a while, this has never been done. I noticed that there isn't much information on the internet about this model, especially here in Brazil, it's a shame because it's a great device. Thank you very much for the information, it was very useful!

I have a SL1950, bought it new in 1978. Your right about it being easy to work on. I recently got it out of my dads house, been sitting since the early 80's. Cue lever was stuck, freed that up and injected new silicone damping fluid. Replaced all caps with a kit from ebay. Cleaned the pots, installed a new Nagaoka cartridge. Special lube for the platter bearing, Set up the tone arm/head alighnment and she spins and sounds pretty good. Not high end in any sense, but better than the craptastik turntables that cost $500 today.

Hey great stuff your putting out great job on the work and your explanations on what you are doing. Joe I have a question if you can answer if circuits boards and dirty from dust and moisture what to use to clean it up to look almost like new thanks if you can answer!

Hey Mark I didn't use anything to clean that circuit board...the owner had it spik and span...I did use contact cleaners for the pots .... turntable was super clean in and out.

Good morning, I have a problem with my sl 1900, after an hour of listening, the speed increases by itself during playback. (I just received it by carrier).. what do you think is the problem?
@VintageAudioFever2 ай бұрын
I think you could start with cleaning the potentiometer inside and see if that helps...you may even check the circuit board for faulty componances...

Is it easy to do?
