Why didn't you feed the audio directly to the video? While it all looks so cool, it is disappointing that we are listening to the audio through a less than wonderful cell phone or cam corder microphone and not a direct input from the phono cable to the video.

For the money, I think the Orto OM40 with Fritz Guyger profile is the way to go. My ears can't tell the difference between that and a Shibata. Also, the 2M Black is only a small Shibata, 6 x 50 um (0.23 x 2.0 mil). The OM 40 is thinner and taller at 5 x 70 um (0.2 x 2.7 mil) so technically it should be the one with better sound anyway.

Thank you so much. The Oyaide MJ-12 platter is of great quality. I have tried Technics rubber mat, the Achromat 1200 from Funk Firm and now the Oyaide. It sounds so much more alive withe the Oyaide. Sound is clearer, bass is tighter and voices are also much clearer. I will also buy the Oyaide STB weight after new year. I don´t think it will do much in sound difference comapred to what I have today (it´s the same weight as the Oyaide weigt) but the Oyaide weight looks great together with the MJ-12 platter.

Ch Kemp I love the tube amp. I always heard that for better quality sound, tub amps are the way to go. Your investment in sound quality is a testament of your love for clarity and real sound in music. Thank you for sharing this video. Just out of curiosity, why the choice to go with a Technics turntable as oppose to a different "audiophile" type turntable? Not hating on the Technics, I love the 1200s MKIIs I bought and sold throughout my 25 years of having them in my gear selection.

'NeoTech speaker cables ' does that mean you used speaker cable for the internal wiring after tonearm ? Any suggestions for a nice RCA cable/wire for 1200? Don't want to remove the bracing clip so it can't be too thick jacketed. Was thinking KLEI absolute harmony RCA connectors but they are a little expensive (It's kind of silly) - I have some decent Cardas at the moment on one. I need to change the RCA on my other 1200 (mk2) though so not sure what to get. Considering I won't be changing the stock tonearm/tonearm wire, it shouldn't make much difference apart from solid connection

MKStands overfeet > techniboots - techniboots are thin and fragile, mine came warped from post in summer heat stuck together, also within 3 cycles of insert and removal of feet (for concerts) one already crumbled. MKStands overfeet look MUCH stronger. They are more expensive but seem to be much better bang for buck.

Thank you so much for your comment. The arm on the top left is a very light arm with a carbon brush. It follows the groove and cleans up dust before it hits the needle. Yes the sound is very very good. It was already great with the Ortofon 2M Black, but now I have upgraded that cartridge to a London Decca Super Gold with Decca pod. It is now even better. It does sound rather good through good computer speakers, but to hear it through a pair of ProAc D25s is truly amazing! Only my new Audio Gd DAC with the Sable ES9018 reference chip playing high resolution DSD-files can match the vinyl...

why buy a deck that has to be modified so much?
@zogzog1063
@zogzog1063 7 жыл бұрын
The decks are stupidly cheap for a high quality Direct Drive. The deck by itself is pretty decent, but each upgrade such as the Isonoe Feet, an External Power Supply, Tonearm, improve the sound. Other mods such as headshell, record stabiliser also make a modest upgrade. The end result is a fabulous table that outdoes a belt drive at a cost much less than, for example, a high-end Brinkman. You do not have to do any modifications. You should also service the bearing - free mod. You do have to watch out for charlatans flogging 'miraculous' upgrades such as the 'Mike New Bearing'.
@HisRoyalRawness
@HisRoyalRawness 7 жыл бұрын

@zogzog1063
@zogzog1063 7 жыл бұрын
The SL12105g is a top unit. So has a price premium. They are NOT €2400 a piece, not even close to that. I suppose someone may be selling (or trying to sell, more likely) at that price. They are so well built that you can buy second hand and get a great unit. Finally, you do not need two. DJs seem to like having a pair, but the owner here is a music lover, rather than a DJ, and only needs one. I myself have a single SL1210Mk5 - not as nice looking as the 5g. You can pick them up on ebay and elsewhere for a few hundred bucks.

It is a record stabiliser. Opinions vary wildly about the efficacy / aesthetics of these. On the plus side they improve sound by holding the record down firmly. On the negative side they increase friction (and thereby noise) on the bearing. In one case, in a unit made by Michel Engineering, they ingeniously help flatten a warped record. In my opinion a light unit, say 200 grams or so, is optimal.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Mike. The Technics SL1200/1210 and espesially the M5G is an audiophile turntable. The 1200 was from the very start (1972) an audiophile tt made for customers that wanted a cheaper player than the Technics SP-series. By modifying this turntable you bring out a sound quality you do not think would be possible. Just as good or even a little better than the famous SP-10 mkII, say audiophiles that have heard both:) This is an audiophile turntable and don´t let the pitch control fool anyone. This is 12-13 kg of japanese quality with a fantastic arm and cart. Thanks for listening and for enjoying the video!

The fact that the motor is a Hanpin there is nothing wrong with that. Do some research mr Kemp before you say that. The patent on the motor from the SL1200 was not valid anymore and Technics did not bother to renew the validation. The motor that Hanpin built is an exact kopy of the Technics motor. And therefore as good as.. or better, because they could do with it what they wanted now. So its same but definitely not worse.. maybe better. The AT motor is pulling a lot more torque then the Technics motor. Look at the different TT specs.

awesome turntable dude! I have also done some stuff on one of my sl1210mk2: I installed the external timestep III low noise psu, Isonoe feet, and Mike New bearing. (I bought the bearing with baseplate and glued to the bottom of the turntable for a solid sound.) There is just one thing I discovered today. When I squeeze the groundcable in together with the red RCA-cable in the stereo, on my unmodded technics it works as a charm, there is no hum, but on my modded one, when I put the volume up, and don´t spin the disc, there is a hum that goes up and down between two tunes from that psu. Why is that, it is supposed to be silent.. =(

Cobain Windsurfer Thank you for your kind words! Yes a modified 1210 is a grand turntable indeed. Many think it´s just a DJ-deck, but boy are they wrong. As a un-modified deck the sound can be a little shut in. Three main things is the cause of this: the arm cable, the internal PSU and the feet. Address these three and the sound will open up alot and the noise floor will go down. Change to Mike New Bearing and that is the icing on the cake. Now you have a highend sounding deck! Change the arm to a Jelco 750D-type of arm or a SME and now we are really talking:) My nesxt upgrades will be the Mike New ETP platter and the bearing base plate. After completeing those upgrades I think it can compete with just about any turntable out there. I see you have the bearing base plate. Did you notice any difference with or without the baseplate using the MN bearing??

Since last time I have done some good (but cheap) improvement on my technics: 1. At last I found out that it was my external powersupply (Timestep HE III low noise power supply) was causing a lot of hum. My Timestep PSU was not grounded itself, so I did that, but it was not until later when I ran a groundcable from the groundpoint in the external Timestep PSU to the groundpoint in my technics that the hum was finally gone. Of course I also put the 0V wire from the Time Step power supply to the bottom LH corner on technics PCB (which is the correct optimal ground point)*, and not to the right hand corner as the description said. 2. I also opened the Timestep PSU and took out the PCB with the capacitors and because of the long cable I could put PCB it in the technics instead. *If you put it away from the coil you will get better sound. (I put it in the hole where the old original powersupply were mounted.) 3. I have also used anti-vibration mats, Bi-tumen, inside the technics. First I lifted up the platter, and placed it around and under the PCB board (The PCB board can be removed and put aside when you do it) I used sheets of paper and made templates, and after the bi-tumen sheet was somewhat heated, it was very easy to cut out. Then I put the bits in place, melted it a bit with a heat gun and then pressed it firmly with the thumbs to make it stick firmly with the metal (wear gloves and have water in handy to not burn yourself, protect your PCB with i.e a ice scraper not to damage your components ). Then I continued and put Bi-tumen under the cabinet as well. (I had to take the rubber base off.) 4. Because I have the Mike New bearing installed the platter sits a bit higher up. Because the original Technics platter is ringing a bit like a bell, but I like the look of it, I drilled countersunk symetrical screw holes in it, sawn out an aluminum plate to fit under the original platter, and sandwished the original rubbermat in between. Wow, this improvement really made the sound a lot better! 5. I have also put small rubber rings on the tonearm (I used A LOT OF rings from the upper part of waterbaloons that I cut off, just to hear if the sound got better and it did (ok for now, but it was a cheap and instant improvement) 6. I bought 1mm cork mat from Panduro shop, and put under the slipmat. 7. I made a small ring of this cork also, and put between the headshell and tonearm, and it take out movement from tonearm to cartridge. 8**. I took out the cartridge and placed it on the cork board, drawing around with a pen and cut out the shape. I the put this 1mm cork sheet between the headshell and cartridge, and wow the sound is very good. I´m using AT33PTG/II as my hifi headshell, and M44-7 as the usual one, and both sounds better doing this! Wow! 9. I have also installed LED lights under the platter in blue. Also there is a space (~3mm) between the rim of the platter and the cabinet, so I cut 3 small peaces of a creditcard, attached it to the platter and made the peaces of the card go 2mm out from the platter, and there is a very nice effect with the lights when I play the records. Also looks cool in an club enviroment. *Acording to HIFI forums. **I have seen a lot of people switch out the original tonearm to a better and more expensive one, but I figured out why not try to dampen vibrations between headshell and cartridge instead? It turned out I got a much better sound.

Ch Kemp why not, but while the turntable looks stunning with all the mods, it sounds utterly crap through the camcorder mic. Why not take an output from your system and upload it directly, that way we get to hear how this marvel sounds - albeit with youtube compression.
