New Technique Series! After receiving numerous requests from students around the world, I'm excited to announce the ProPractice Technique Series, based on helping students master scales, arpeggios, triads and inversions, as well as 7th chords and inversions. Each video presents a unique way of practicing to help students stay creative and inspired with their technique regimen. I would truly appreciate it if you could help me spread the word! Thank you all so much for your wonderful support and friendship :) Day 1 of 12: Key of C kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppSaf6SwZ6aKnsU

My friend your wonderful and love the big hair club. Anyone that plays all of Fred's studies is king. I only play six of them.....a teacher many moons ago told me to stop bowing down to Chopin....hard to do because he is my favorite......but glad I did because I studied composition and jazz and now improvise like crazy.....freedom from paper....so much more fun to part to perform different every night not knowing what i will play.....love you like a brother God bless you

The first ProPractice I've bought. Been waiting for this technique series! :) I plan to buy the rest! Josh, I'm currently working on Chopin's Grand Valse Brillante Op 34. No 1, could you do a video on this one if you can? Or just give me general tips on how to play this? My main problems are the fast scales and getting the coda up to speed. Thanks!

Hi Josh: I suffered from wrist tendonitis about 3 years ago in my RH and my wrist is feeling much better today but still can feel sore when I pound on the keys or try to play something it can't handle. Would you still suggest that someone like me, with previous injury that hasn't completely healed yet, be practicing scales with high fingers?

hi josh, I am a adult beginner and I find your videos very helpful...can you please tell me the reason why you are highlighting the four finger ie four left four right ect regards francis
@thegreenpianist7683
@thegreenpianist7683 7 жыл бұрын
jeggy2007 because it comes once per octave as he said, after all if the scale was only 6 notes (without repetition) it would be an easy 123 123 123 pattern all the time but the fourth finger is what makes scales a bit tricky so we want to focus on it so it doesn't throw us off and organize the pattern well in our minds

Hey Josh, I love your videos and everything about the pro practice concept. Have you ever thought of putting up the full videos on KZbin, in hope of getting more of a following and maybe even surpassing your income from what you get on your website through ad revenue? Just a thought

A Baby Eskimo Thank so much for the thought. I've tried to set the price points for full-length ProPractice videos to be accessible for everyone (ranging from $1.99-$5.99, depending on video length). With the time investment that I put into making and editing these videos outside of my normal concert and private teaching schedule, I just can't afford to put them up for free. I appreciate your support and hope you are enjoying the videos. Merry Christmas!

A Baby Eskimo there is noway that would ever happen. i paid 9 bucks for each video and i think any advanced pianist that wants to complement their own lessons with P practice is willing to spend 10 measly dollars. and if he gets 10 ppl to buy it, it is already worth it.

I'm just wondering how much weight there lies in correct fingering. I remember, when I was a kid learning to play the piano, my teacher would always call me out on fingering. She used to say I got a "pirate way" about it. Because sometimes I didn't follow the suggested finger positions, but instead invented my own, which worked nonetheless, I played all I was asked to. But, I downloaded the series now, after many years of doing nothing I came back to playing piano, a bit wiser I dare to say, I understand the importance of doing things right. So I'm wondering, I play all the inversions of triads with my 5-3-1, is that too big of a deal? I guess this question comes from a place of slight uncertainty and sort of paralysis that thinking of perfection instills in you and I'm looking for a bit of validation, since I have no-one around me but the world of the internet to learn from.

Hey man, sorry this reply is so late, I'm not Josh or anything I just had a similar problem learning piano. As tempting as it is to learn your own way, just learn the way that's been layed out for you, the fingerings are there for a reason, the scales, arpeggios, chords, lines, phrases and rhythms are yours and everyones own to rebirth and love. If you've got smaller hands then yeah change those arpeggios up 🙂 subscribe if you like. That's a weird thing to ask for. Whatever it's late. Eee

Fingerings seem to accommodate the hand's ease in opening the thumb (our easiest move).. Not as easy to stretch between #2 and 3, or #3 and 4, and especially #4 and 5.

What's the purpose of raising the fingers (either straight or curled)? Are we just giving the hand/fingers more work to do so when we remove the extra step, the fingers can have more agility?

by raising fingers high, it develop strength. its not just only playing hard increases strength but raising it as high as you can also helps. infact, raising needs more energy? thats all i know i hope it helps. check out hanon exercise by livingpianos . he explained it well. i still dont understand why he is focusing on the fourth finger.

I recommend going back to this Tim Burton vibe for your videos, but make it a lot more dramatic. you could dress more the part of tim Burton type character with the sunken eyes and crazy hair, decorate the area etc. Would give you a much more unique image to stand out from the rest of piano youtubers. get weird, get creative, stand out, flourish

I don't think his purpose is to stand out by artificial means. I'm sure his channel will only keep growing regardless, given his deep insights, sincere and genuine character, and his passion for music and teaching. I prefer to advocate more for someone authentic and passionate like Josh, rather than fake entertainers on youtube! Wouldn't you?
@storzbickel4328

@@SE013 you're viewing what im saying as being not authentic. I agree if he doesn't like the idea. If he does, then it is authentic. Not recommending he does anything he doesn't connect with. Many people create a more dramatic look for themselves that they connect with and can help them stand out from the rest. He could still provide the same great content and not be a fake youtuber. Your viewing this in the wrong way.
