Technique Tuesday: Breath visualization, balloon edition
In preparation for a Somatic Singer workshop I am presenting this Saturday for @mddcnats , here is one of my favorite breath visualization exercises, passed on to me by Jay Colwell at Singing Body Clinic.
This helps you:
- Wake up & warm up your entire breath support system
- Isolate different areas of your support system and body
- Have something to visualize and connect to when working with breath in practice or performance
- Feel 360 degree expansion and deflation
- Notice some side benefits or effects to focusing on expanding or deflating/engaging these particular areas.
What’s your favorite balloon? And the most difficult for you?
I definitely struggle to feel my skull balloon inflating, BUT, focusing on it helps me release tension held in the back of my neck and upper shoulders!
