That's just it people like that aren't technical they just go by ear...apply until it sounds right move on. This is what meant when he said "it aint rocket science" If you ever get the chance to shadow engineers in industry sessions with top or really good artists, the first thing you'll notice is how good the performance and vocal are before the engineer touches it and it makes the engineer sound phenominal. Less experienced artists... gotta use a lot of processing

Also, Every aspiring producer should read Michael Beinhorn's "Unlocking Creativity"! It's fantastic and the only book that covers this aspect of the production process!

He told them. As loud as possible before distortion, but that applies for all frequencies. He also said he masters twice, once while mixing and then remove effect before final export, then master all tracks together to even them out.

he clipped the converters on his console after summing out the master which gave the track an analog soft-clip saturation effect which warmed up the low-end and glued the mix

Multiple limiters, soft clipping, eq, compression, saturation. Has a lot to do with EQ curve after multiple layers of limiting, and feeding that into a final brick wall. I overshoot commercial mixes regularly.

Same for me. I think it's that almost "childish" and DIY approach (mixing and mastering along the way, basically doing everything at once) that made him and Kanye be such a legendary and trendsetting duo. He just doesn't like limitations, that's why he's so influential.

summing is when you send all your tracks in a mix to a summing mixer (like the neeve 8816) then send that back to your daw to get a digital to analog conversion sound. had to look it up too haha shit seems way too expensive though. ill wait till i can afford it to at least try it out.
