For those who don't know, this is called Clogging. It's a traditional folk dance style that was developed primarily in the Appalachian hill country of the Carolinas and Virginia with influences from Kentucky and other Southern states. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clogging

Before that it has roots in Irish Sean Nos dance, as well as English and Welsh clogging too. When it became US clogging it helped lead to American Buck Dance, as well as Tap. You'll notice, tradtional Irish music sounds very similar to Southern music for that reason too.

I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I had seen Bon Jovi dubbed over a clip of this video and wondered what the real music was. I expected to hear Irish clog dancing, like Riverdance. I wasn't expecting to hear American mountain music. Very cool! I loved hearing the tapping from the shoes. The steps are much more complicated than I realized when seeing it with the other music dubbed over it. I wish I could do this dance.

This is great clogging. Breakdancing "top rock" is at least partly rooted in this. Legit dancers know the significance and skill/ability in this. Everyone has a little something in them.

Fun fact. Flat Footing Clogging Buck Dancing (African America) Pow Pow (American Indian) and square dancing which come out of the Mountains of North Carolina. All can trace their roots back to the Irish Dance. If you watch people preform from North Carolina they dance straight armed. Add a little sand to the Floor and you shag dancing which started in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.

This is basically how all the best dancers at Phish shows back in 90s would dance while on acid or MDMA. A lot of skipping and spinning You'll see a lot of people who "dance" with their feet planted and just kinda bob around. Whenever I've been too uptight to actually dance and I don't move my feet much I always end up with a backache. This kind of dancing you can do for hours and hours and feel great
