Lets be honest here, the egg plot really is a big let down from the hype that the L'Manburg arc was. The big differences between them are the things that made the first plot good, the egg plot is an outside factor that was caused by none of the characters which makes it just a consequence of no ones actions and this outside force has a mind of its own and controls the characters so everything the characters do they can blame it on the egg so internal struggle and drama is completely irrelevant. First plot we kept jumping sides on who we thought was right, egg plot is just... EGG, BAD.

It’s not really an outside factor, a theory is that it’s connected to the dreamon from past seasons. It’s a way to give the spotlight to characters who didn’t get a lot of screen time. I mean the Lmanberg arc could be seen as annoying too. The whole thing was about Tommy being obsessed with two discs and the same thing repeating over and over with Dream manipulating. Of course that’s not my opinion and I personally really enjoyed it but the egg arc is also something new. BBH, Puffy, and Ant worked hard on it and it’s honestly a pretty cool concept if you watch BBH’s streams.

@@ahreumjeong80 Giving spotlight to characters who didn't get much screen time is a good thing but not just for the sake of that at the expense of the story itself. I've watched the BBH streams and they just feel out of place because the world was so well centred around the characters and their "country" but now it's a supernatural being that is quite obviously bad. Basically what I'm saying is that in the first plot there was still a way for you to sympathize with both sides (at least in the beginning), the egg plot, like I said, is just... EGG, BAD. The egg is obviously the antagonist and everyone wants the characters to stay away from it. The first plot (not saying it was perfect in any way) was leagues above what has been show of the egg plot so far, and the fact that it repeated itself doesnt make it annoying because that was the point, everything repeated itself until dream broke and the whole server is now broken with him. Techno said it himself in character about power corrupting and history repeating itself. So far I cant get any sort of emotional attachment to any of the characters in the Egg plot like when skeppy turned red and left, feel like I should've felt bad for BBH but I just didnt cause it felt so out of place and with no real build up of their characters' relationship and so on. I do hope it gets better but I just dont think it's all that good yet.

It also doesn’t help that some of them just kind of screw with the lore and ignore it. There are a lot of plot holes right now but I do hope that eventually it will all make sense!

Also I'm pretty certain that Wilbur was probably a great leading factor into the writing of the first plot and as a Dungeon Master it's not hard to recognise someone's considerably strong roleplaying skills haha he obviously has a little passion for the craft and spent a while learning it so without him directly helping the egg plot I'd assume it just felt overwhelming. But I'm sure they can pull it back and if they manage to connect it all to the rest of the servers lore than it might take a turn for the better :D

It is Trash because it's dragging too long and requires too much RP. Dream SMP is more interesting when it feels authentic and surprising. Eret's betrayal, L'Manberg blowing up. This is why I mostly stick to Technoblade and Philza's streams, and they kind of steer away from the egg thing. The egg cult and the RP around it is too made up in my opinion, and the vines everywhere are getting excessive.

I think the egg plotline is underwhelming. Compared to previous plots, the stakes are kinda vague. The previous plots had elements of patriotism to one's country, friendship, betrayal, lies and manipulation. Not that the egg plot can't have that, but the previous one's were grounded somewhat in reality and are more believable. It makes it more relatable to us. I think the concept on paper is cool. But it lacks that impact in its execution. The characters need to roleplay much more and it makes a bit jarring and inauthentic. Plus, the egg doesn't seem like a convincing enough threat. Yeah it brainwashes people and it's an eyesore. But what does the egg do really? I find that the brainwashed characters don't act that differently except that they are really passionate about the egg. But their personalities are largely intact. It doesn't warp them convincingly to really get that reaction that oh it's evil and it's a threat. Bad is the only one that have really shown somewhat of convincing personality change that maybe can be seen as threatening. But even still, he's mostly still Bad like the core part of who he is isn't changed as much. I think the common reactions of people sum up the egg's impact. It's disgusting looking and makes people act weird. That is probably what most people think about it. Even in the SMP itself that's what people comment about it. I feel like the egg tries to be threatening but lacks that nuance and subtlety to make it convincing. I think the eggpire was kind of a wrong move to take it. It makes it seem like the egg is a powerful force that forcefully invades when it really slowly takes control and creeps. It isn't quite a powerful presence as Dream or Techno. It's more of a malicious mysterious presence, and it coming out as this "empire" makes it kinda cringe tbh. One can also point out how this plot came out of nowhere and was kinda forced into the main spotlight. But I think that's a problem with the direction of the whole Dream SMP plotline as a whole. This isn't really a professional production where each story thread is meticulously planned out. It is just a bunch of streamers and youtubers roleplaying. But they're doing a hell of great job at it which kinda makes the high expectation understandable.

Maybe as the plot progresses, it could turn out better. The people in the SMP aren't that invested yet. Maybe as the egg gets more exposure and people get more interested, the plot could pick up. There's a lot of potential. Sci-fi as a genre has always shown interesting developments and there are a lot of creative ways it could go. But that would only have a possibility of developing if the players really invest in it. We're not really even sure if this is the main plot. Things have kinda cool down in the Dream and Tommy arc. Which makes sense. A little time of peace to prepare for the next major plot events would be nice. The egg plot may be just a side story to preoccupy that downtime. But who knows.
