Bought an EAD10 and the snare trigger a few months ago. Played around with it and created a few scenes I liked. Used it at rehearsal and worked well. Live vs headphones is definitely different. Finally used it on a live gig. I used my own speaker (15" Behringer) so as not to interfere with PA vocals. Didn't have to fiddle with getting the bass drum mixed to my liking as it was already set up via the module. While you can't really hear all the fancy high end sounds, bass came thru nice and added presence to the rest of the kit. A plus for me as I've never been a hard hitter. Simple set-up...hook EAD to bass drum, snare trigger to snare, clamp module to hihat stand, plug in speaker & module and good to go. Definitely recommend!

This is the best video, both for the EAD10 and quiet(er) playing. I’ve been through the whole gamut of this topic. Silent strokes, muffle heads, Stealth cymbals and all stops in between. I recently acquired an upgraded drum set and simply added Remo Tone-rings then I bought some 19stick Hot Rods that def play at a lower volume. Not so good for rebound on the cymbals but much quieter. The kit sounds like it should and no one outside can hear me - which might be good thing‼️

I wish someone would do as informative a video as this about using the EAD for live playing with a full band.

Fantastic video! I'm debating between my current e-drum and this solution for home practice. this one seems to work almost perfectly for that use. thanks a lot.

Excellent and useful review. I just got the EAD10 and I too find it useful in lots of ways. One point still unresolved for me is how to actually get inside the menus to tweak fine sound settings--for example, how to change just one aspect of the sound while keeping the other settings. Also, it sometimes seems that changing the trigger or reverb settings via the knobs on the main unit doesn't really affect the sounds as much as one would expect--Arena still sounds like Arena, for example, even when you turn down the reverb or effects settings almost to zero. Still, the EAD10 does a great job of making my kit sound better on stage with little effort, and that is most important!

Hi , I have a mesh heads with lvc and can get good sounds. The bass drum is giving me problems with the trigger booming sometimes. Do you know why it could do that ? All mesh heads and lvc !

How do you set up a mic for talking during a lesson when using the app or ead10? So I play an example groove then want to explain the groove how am I getting that audio out at high level same as the ead10?
@flowerlandofjohn
@flowerlandofjohn Жыл бұрын
You press the “record level button” twice. Then you switch between talkback and recording levels from the microphone 👍🏻

I am curious about using the EAD with silent strokes. This video did a good job of shedding light on that. My critique of this video would be the fact that the EAD does not change the feel of the kit but only the sound. Unfortunately, pads will always feel like pads but there are ways to get pads to sound like real drums. I don't think the EAD is the way to achieve that.

Hey, thanks for putting this up. I'm debating getting it and this helps. When practicing in my townhome I use L80 cymbals and RTOM Black Holes. Do you think this would pick up the Black Holes?
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 6 жыл бұрын
I think it would work pretty well with the black holes. The center dot of those pads have a pretty well defined click to them which I think would pick up well with the mic on the EAD10. I would place it somewhere between the sound of the silentstroke and the superpad in terms of loudness and definition.

Hi Otto! Can i use two bass drum with EAD10??? I must buy a trigger?
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting use case I hadn't considered. You would need to get a trigger and use one of the expandable trigger inputs. It might take some tweaking to match the sensitivity so everything triggers evenly. You could possibly set it up in between your two kicks to use the mics, but you'd lose the trigger component. The other option would be to buy a second EAD10, but then you're probably dealing with phase issues for the microphones. If you're looking for a triggered sound, it might be more practical to purchase a drum brain and triggers, or if it's the overall sound you're looking for, it's probably best to get some mics and learn how to use a DAW and its plugins.

Is it effective for studio recording?

I've had one for about a year. I strongly suggest going a different route. The EAD10 has far more negatives than the positives. I'm glad you're not being a salesman for the product. A few big problems I've had, and has caused me hearing issues. You can not independently change the volume of the drums from music (if making a drum cover). It's made of cheap plastic, and eventually the ports in the back cause problems. If using 1 mount tom, the crash to the side of it is hardly audible. The bass drum, and whatever is closest to the trigger will be overwhelmingly loud. I can go on....There are much better ways. Save you $

I'm curious how you come out of the EAD10 to your recording setup. Playing live I had real level issues like you describe until I used the mono out with instrument cable. this got it so the sound I was getting matched the headphones sound out of the module.

@@gator4914 I tried going out from the EAD10 to the Model 24. The Model 24 is a scam. They tell ya you can plug it in to a pc, and use it for your DAW. What they don’t tell ya, is only one channel does that. I tried doing everything with the 24, and ead10, but no success. Now I just go from the headphone jack. What ya can do, but only works sometimes, is lower the volume in the EAD to 4. If ya go lower than 4, ya can’t hear anything. A bigger problem unique to me...I went and got Studio One 5 Pro, and Focusrite 18i20. One I get a handle on that, I’ll sell the EAD, and a trigger I never used

I use PC, and I also use the rec'n share app on an Android phone. The app I suspect has some software that really cleans up the sound

I love the EAD10. And I’ve had no problems with levels between drums & music (I do use the Rec n’ Share app). Yes, one need to move the drums around a bit to avoid bleed, but that goes for all microphones. The trick for good levels is to use triggers for all the drums. That gives you better control of different levels. Here’s the EAD10 with 5 extra triggers connected ✌🏻🤩 kzbin.info4QYisw0hWN8?feature=share
