Fluke 107 Multimeter Detailed Review -

This is a detailed review of the Fluke 107. It's the top end of the Fluke 100 range of multimeters.
In this review, I cover the physical qualities of the multimeter, as well as the UI and measurement capabilities, and also demo some measurements. I also take the unit apart for a look inside at the PCB.

A great add on for the 107 is the UNI-T UT-CS06A AC clamp add on and measure ac amps for $20+ using the 1mV:1A output ratio.

Just got one of these and a 101, and I am surprisingly impressed with the product quality and design, they must be tough because they survived Amazons futile attempt at packaging and arrived here in the UK in working condition. The boxes however looked decidedly secondhand, which is annoying. Amazon take your money and send out 2 DMM's in a lighweight padded bag, to travel 6000 miles from the USA to the UK!! Yeah, I could complain to them but I know what would happen, I would have to go to the inconvenience of returning them for replacements, but then they would send them in exactly the same packaging! So, don't use Amazon if you care about your property!

Which one do you like ? The 101 or the 107? I know both have limitations but handling wise which one is better.

@@rrsrsamsung3623 Putting aside the spec level of each meter, I prefer the 107 because it has the test lead sockets on the top, rather than the bottom on the 101. The top location is better on the bench. As for quality, build and switch feel there is nothing between them. If the extra functionality of the 107 isn't required then the 101 is perfectly satisfactory.

@@turboslag @turboslag Thanks for your reply. The position of the sockets and the backlight are the two factors moving me towards the 107 too. I am a Diy'er and not much use for the meter, very occasionally, so this will be the only one I buy in my lifetime, but when I want to use it, I want it to be convenient.

Bought a Fluke 101 recently. I knew it was made in China, but the box seems intended for USA or at least english speaking folk. Box is dated 3/2023 and also says copyright 2013--2023. Does this mean I got a fresh one? Also...it seems to work well checking batteries for radio control models. Tempted to order the Fluke 107 soon, as it has more buttons, features and is very cool looking. 😹

Multimeters with no current measuring capability with use of probes ( not a clamp sensor) are the safest ones as they have no low resistance input at all.

The 101 & 106 are not fused. This is the selling point on the 107 for me.

two things: 1. 101 doesn't have current measurement, what do you need a fuse for? 2. 106 is 10A fused.

​@@66crush9 Where does arc flash occur though? if there's arc flash, it means the insulation and gaps in the circuit are not well designed to cope with high voltage input, or your high voltage resistant/clamping components failed. How can a fuse help in this case? Or are you suggesting putting a fuse in every line where there's copper, so that if that line overheats or carries a significant amount of current, it'll just open? I seriously have 0 idea what you are talking about. Edit: simplified my comment.

Not sure if it would actually work with this unit, but, I have separated case halves before by partially removing the screws in each corner and while the screws are still a few turns in...push gently on the heads of the screws which will/should push the front or back half of the case apart.

Man this product went up in price lol. 42 to 75 now it’s 100 to 110 in 2020. Looking for a small meter to carry on call for apartment maintenance. Hate carrying my 250 field piece and leaving it in my car on the weekends. Would this be a good fit for checking ac voltage outlets and switch and minor furnace, ac work?

Why does Fluke charge so much for these when they are made in China? I think the same Chinese factory sells an almost identical model with different colored plastic at half the price. Fluke???.....how long can you last making your meters in China?

They make a total of *two* models in China and I guarantee they've not only specified higher quality components and a more rigorous QC process, I'd put money on them doing random and *very* stringent audits of their line at the chinese factory. When that factory runs a ghost shift and cranks out counterfeits (as you seem to claim) there's *no way* they're using the same high cost components nor will they care even the slightest bit whether the things meet any sort of spec. Sure, it's cool when a product can be made in a developed country, but the more important factor in quality and safety of a product is not where it's made, it's *what* the brand who's logo is on it has to lose. Fluke has an immensely respected brand reputation to uphold. China isn't known for giving a flying f*ck about any of that on their own "brands". Heck they don't even really seem to understand the concept of a "brand". lol
