How To Care For Sundews. Growing sundew is very easy! Even though they seem like they would take complex care I find i use more effort keeping pothos alive than i do sundew. These carnivorous plants are very interesting and with this guide you can raise some too!

I spontaneously bought a sundew and a venus fly trap pretty much exactly 1 year ago and been watering them with bottled water with low minerals the entire time, and they don’t seem to care! They all developed a pretty flower in spring and are constantly growing new leaves! They are now my favourite plants especially the sundew. I forgot to water it a few times before and it looked horrible, but got back after a good watering the next days. It’s so easy to take care of! Also, I threw some seeds it developed after flowering on the soil, just to see if it’ll grow, and I have over 10 baby sundew now! Absolutely love them!

They can usually take bottled water for a bit, but those minerals can build up in the soil over-time! I'd be wary of that. If you're able to collect rainwater, that's also another cheap alternative option.

Buy a package of "Mosquito dunks" at the garden center. It is BT. Put one quarter of one in your watering can. This will kill the larvae in the soil and stop future generations. It is all natural and safe. But give it some time to work. Use sticky traps and manually kill the adults.

Yeah I bought one for that exact reason too. I also started watering the infected plants with 4 parts water to one part hydrogen peroxide. That killed off all of the babies. It took a while but it’s the only thing that got rid of them!! Also sticky traps helped get rid of a lot of the adults.

@jetjazz05

I've got a nice grow light from an aquarium that I think will work perfect for a sundew, it's a nice Fluval light that has red, blue, white wavelengths of light you can set manually and have it fade in and out daily to simulate sunset and sunrise. Lately I've been having a few gnats in my house and I can't pinpoint where they're coming from, I don't leave messes, I take my garbage out daily, the dishes are done as soon as they're made, and yet somehow I keep finding them. Since I have this extra light I figure it's time to try one of these guys, I'm really hoping they'll snag up those gnats while looking awesome at the same time! I appreciate this video, it's confirmed and filled in the gaps on a lot of things for me. When I had a fish tank I had red red root floaters in my tank, and like you said lots of light was the key to making them nice and red and gorgeous. I know that's a different plant and I won't do this with the sundew but I found that especially dosing the tank with iron really helped keep them red and blossoming... anyways I have high hopes for my future venture into carnivorous plants, so thanks again for all the helpful information.

I normally spray my car.plants with water a couple times a day to keep them hydrated. But I just purchased the maxsea and put little droplets of food on the leaves. Hello! I am new to the channel. I am in desperate need of the elimination of all fruit fly/whatever other flies are cruising around my apartment. If only there were a Dateline on this (J/K). I got interested in carnivorous plants because I was looking for an effective, sustainable way to kill as many as possible and continue to do so. So, from reading comments below, it seems as if this is a common theme, and I think it would be a pretty dope project to build a specialized carnivorous household-bug elimination terrarium. Could you do a video on that? I am trying to find one, but I have not had luck. I am thinking sundews, but I'm sure there are other cool things that could serve a separate purpose. For other posters, I have tried many cleaning techniques and home-made traps and have done a lot of research to eradicate them, so I don't need any more advice on that part. Thanks!

I breed Dubia roaches for my bearded dragon. Can I feed any of my carnivorous plants with the Dubia hatchlings? They’re a few mm long. About the size of a small cricket that you can get from petsmart. Maybe a tad smaller.

Can you over feed a sundew plant? I currently have a fungus gnat infestation and I bought a Sundew at my garden center thinking it’ll be happy with a ton of gnats... but now I’m not too sure lol

i haven’t grown carnivorous plants before so i’m kinda confused by this. also i live in new mexico in the usa where it’s dry most of the year, would it be a good idea to grow them in a terrarium?

the humidity doesn't matter as much, as long as they are sitting in a dish of distilled water and they get good consistent light they will do great!

Hello. I breed Dubia roaches for my bearded dragon. I’m wondering if I can feed fly traps, sundews and pitcher plants with small newly hatched Dubia roach babies? I have so many of them I sometimes have too many and need to find more uses for them lol.
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I think really small ones would work well for traps and pitchers. Sundews do best with winged insects, hard shelled ones tend to get unstuck eventually

Hi. I just obtained a Drosera Capillaris. It's getting a combination of artificial and natural sunlight for 15 hrs a day. Other then watering, is there anything else I should do for humidity? I just keep the pot in a tray of water as you suggested. Also, is the fish food flakes good for this species? Thank you for any info.
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 3 жыл бұрын
yeah, they really don't need crazy amounts of humidity just gotta sit in water. Fish flakes will work fine just don't go too overboard because it can mold. Good luck and enjoy your sundew

Thanks for responding. It's producing a long thin spiral stalk with what looks like seeds on the end. That should be cut off? Thanks again, Bob

how big of a terrarium? I would look for something at least 30 real watts if you want nice red color

I know this video is a bit old, but what lights are you personally using? All the linked lights are too low on the DLI if used 14-16 hrs a day from what I can gather.

i just bought a bunch of seeds and im hoping to grow hundreds of plants and feeding each leaf isnt really a viable option. ive heard that they can be sprayed with something like MARPHYL or maxsea like you showed. is that my best option and maybe use water to flush the soil out like once a year just incase it starts to build up nutrients?

My sundew has someting like very small white worms, but they are jumping, and i found them in the water. Can you tell me what are these tings? What's the temperature that should be in the room with the plant? When can I transplant it into a larger pot? Does the season matter?

@@TechplantChannel I think it's Drosera Capillaris. Some of the leaves fell off but there are still green leaves. And the small white insects are in the soil. I just don't know what to do... Maybe I should go to a plant shop and show my drosera to florist.
