At the neuromuscular junction where your nerves connect to your muscles you have muscle cells called motor endplates that have receptors on them and can react to neurotransmitters like acetylcholine in order to activate.

As being an employee of HP, i can confirm to you that the method of updating only when an issue arises is not a good method. Some updates are pushed to prevent issues from happening that would in the end require an system board replacement, such as Intel ME firmware. Not to mention it does provide security improvments and bug fixes that may have caused issues you didnt know you were having. Ideally for best performance and stability its recommended to keep all of your drivers, firmware, bios and chipset up to date. Linus is right though there is a risk of doing a bios update, but the chance of something happening is very slim as long as you know what you are doing.

Software is not lines of codes. Lines of codes are ways to make visually see software. When you are pushing buttons which what codes or anything else you want to call, it is equivalent of flipping switches to send current or voltage this direction or that direction. Software is the game plan. You can write your game plan and hand it to someone, telling or instructing them what to do. The writing it on a piece of paper is simply a visual way of seeing your game plan. This needs to be made very clear. I suppose you can call the instruction you wrote on that paper software. Nonthesless it needs to be made crystal clear.

Firmware is a set of instructions or a program that runs microcontroler(s) in your electronic devices driving it's principal functions and usually stored in eeprom memory chip. Without this code\firmware your device is literary a brick. "Conventional software" is also a program but sits on a higher abstraction level that allows us to control the device. The best analogy would be, think of the firmware as an autonomic\parasympathetic nervous system in human body, that controls basic functions like intestine peristalsis, heart beat rate and etc.

EPROM is how BIOS's used to be stored. They were only erasable using ultraviolet light through a sticker covered window on the top of the chip. They were socketed so that they could be removed and placed in a device called a "burner" that you used to transfer the code to write to the chip. EEPROM are electrically erasable (do not have the window) a form of NVRAM (non volatile). Some PCs originally had sockets that also allowed the use of EPROM stored operating systems. You could have DOS and GWBASIC/IBMBASIC on them eliminating the need to boot from a floppy disk.
