A motherboard is like the backbone of a PC or other electronic device.

How I Met Your Motherboard.
@ElectroManGaming24
@ElectroManGaming24 10 жыл бұрын
Guys, think of it like a Body. The Motherboard is like your spine, nothing in your body would work without it. The CPU is like your brain, carries out enormous amount's of jobs. The Power Supply is like the food you eat, it fuels the tasks going on in your body. And the GPU (or Video Card) is like your limbs, you can often live without them, but that effort would be strained on other parts of your body. The RAM (or memory) Is like your veins, it is in charge of doing stuff that the brain cannot do, also it disperses information throughout the body. And the PC Case, is like your skin, You have to have a safe place to keep all your parts.
@g0ggy
@g0ggy 10 жыл бұрын
Some of these comparisons are really not that well chosen. The PSU is more like your heart/lungs, blood etc.. The "energy" your body gets would be simply electricity that is used up in all your body parts. And a GPU would be more like your eyes or all your senses when combined with a monitor. You don't have to make comparisons to a human body to make it understandable. CPU and motherboard are the only examples that really do fit for a comparison.
@ElectroManGaming24
@ElectroManGaming24 10 жыл бұрын
As well as your body is in need of power, a power supply is the power. without food, your lungs would not work. So that is correct. I meant to take the GPU as something that is expendable. Senses are not really expendable. But eyes can be.

***** Kinda trying to get the grasp of normal peoples perspective on how to view a PC. That was me tying purely for those who do not know what a computer does, or what the processes are like. But in some cases it does kinda work, RAM uses it's pathways to make it possible for things to work correctly was what i was getting at.

To the newbies out there, if you want to have the option to upgrade or even replace faulty parts in the future then stay away from Dell and Apple. They don't use industry standard parts, meaning you have to pay whatever extortionate price they feel like charging you if you need to fix or upgrade your system.
@JusttAlf
@JusttAlf 10 жыл бұрын
Well... As overpriced as Apple may be, at least they will fix (And with fix I mean replace) your faulty hardware... But still, don't get near them, they suck, It's like the consoles for the Workstation market
@Wunderlag
@Wunderlag 10 жыл бұрын
to extend your comment: ... but there is a reason for the non-industry standard decision: The size of the whole thing. Replaceable part systems require room to fit different sized parts. This is where Apple, Dell, Laptops and Phones come in: They cram everything into the smallest possible place to save on room but sacrifice the ability to replace parts (mostly).

LeperAffinity5 Or just because not everyone cares about competitive FPS games. Just a thought. It's not a direction, and that's my point. It's advertising mediocre gear, and the only bit of helpful information is the 6/11 speed in windows. You could've just told him the rest. DPI/Sensitivity are highly up to preference and what types of games you play.

Your first "as Fast As Possible" probably should have been about the motherboard. At least in my opinion because when I consider building any computer I build it around a specific motherboard depending on what am I going to use this PC for. At least I see the motherboard (as probably the majority of people) as the most important computer hardware (well that and the HDD/SSD because... well... you know.... information on them might be important. But mostly the motherboard because everything revolves around it.) But that's just me.

Can a motherboard "bottleneck" (slow down) the performance of a CPU, altho it's fully compatible with the CPU but the motherboard is cheap ? Let's give as example: will an AMD FX-6300 work at full potential with no user overclock, only the turbo boost technology, on a asRock 960GM-VGS3 FX ?
@Elglobulo

If you consider that the HyperTransport can "bottleneck" the CPU then you have to take a look to your chipset before buy. Sorry my english :(
@AlexTechFix
@AlexTechFix 10 жыл бұрын
Actually yes - a motherboard can be a bottleneck. I learned the hard way when I bought an AMD FX-8350 and a cheap AM3+ motherboard that the power delivery was not quite enough and thus would throttle down my CPU to avoid frying the voltage regulators on the motherboard. The AMD 8350 should realistically be rated at around 200 watts instead of 125 watts so that manufacturers don't label boards as "compatible." Now I have an Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and my 8350 runs flawlessly.
@1300l

Only if you setup it bad on the BIOS. Where you would for example disable hyper thread in CPUS that allow it, or do some kind of underclock. Usualy what it bottleneck is the speed of the south and north bridge comunication..in other words, usualy it bottleneck the "conversation" of each component but not a component

From what I understood from the video, a motherboard allows all the components to work together and it doesn't contain anything that could boost your performance. If that's the case, than why some motherboards are more expensive while others are cheaper. Is it bad if I buy expensive components and get a cheap motherboard?
