My sister has a custom home that wasn’t built as part of a plant community but was their own design in an area in the desert with many of those homes. Although it’s in far North Phoenix that little pocket does not have cable pre-wired or DSL fiber-optic because it’s not a planned community built all at once. She only gets anywhere from 500 kbps to 1.5 mbps down. Hasn’t changed for 11 years. Even 4G is faster than that.

The point of WiFi is when you need to use a wireless device like a phone or laptop the stopping point is when you have a device that never moves or is low power or low data rate. Also I can say that Insteon is actually cool and works well if would be cool if they did a video on that

LoRa is the way forward for smart devices. Low power, low bandwidth, not in the already cluttered 2.4Ghz radio spectrum, running in the ISM band - around 433Mhz - 868Mhz & just a few milliwatts can reach an insanly, humongous range! Been running multiple LoRa devices, each having a single 18650 battery & they've been going for about 18 months now & they've still got over 80% charge. It would be the business if phones incorporated LoRa. ...Oh, did I mention that the range is insanly humongous?! 😉👌🏼

Please make a video with a graphic to condense the pros and cons of Insteon, Bluetooth mesh, Zigby, and Zwave. Hearing the differences sprinkled randomly around the video made it hard for the information to stick, because by the time James reached Pro/Con number 3, pro/Con 2 has been long forgotten due to a relevant yet distracting information blast inbetween the two topics.

Each of those pros and cons have a different weight, so it's not a good idea to just add them up. If you go to the site of the owner of a protocol, such as Silicon Labs, you're going to get biased information that makes their protocol look perfect in every way. KZbin videos are not the best things to base life decisions. There is a lot of text info on the web. Let google or another search engine lead the way.

It's low frequency in comparison. Mesh has very little to do with it. My Simplisafe home security system has eight year old batteries which are still going. It runs around 430MHz as opposed to 2,400MHz like Bluetooth or WiFi. The lower frequency allows the RF to penetrate walls and such more easily and it goes farther with less wattage. As a ham radio operator we can talk 15mi on 146Mhz with a mere 5W of power from a tiny, hand-held radio. We have guys with mobile rigs talking 50mi or more with better antennas mounted to their vehicles. Either way the big advantage here for power and range is the lower frequency. Going back to my Simplisafe system, I have sensors on my detached garage/workshop in the back and it talks to the base station in my house with no issues, but again, it is on something like 430MHz. It's all about the wavelength...

I'm referencing Cisco AnyConnect VPN over an enterprise domain connection, in many cases while connected to Wifi your network speed is cut in half due to packet loss or network restrictions. I should have been more clear. This is something we face with our environment since we got everyone working remote during Covid. This obviously doesn't happen through all VPN connections which are less restricted.
