I have been using this phone for nearly three weeks, and I have a suggestion for you. When unfolding the phone, first change it to dual screens and then to triple screens; when folding it, also start with dual screens before changing to a single screen. This is because parts of the screen need to be stretched, while others need to be folded. Following the above method when opening and closing your phone can extend the life of your screen (screens are really too expensive). This method is the standard opening and closing procedure told to me by the Huawei store clerk.

With this tri-fold form the parts where the phone folds are exposed from the outside and are asking to be cracked, like explained on this video. With rollables screen might be better protected and, due to the nature of rolling, shouldn't be made of material that's so easily crackable like plastic or glass.

My main driver is a Mate XS Outward Foldable with no case for 8 months, dropped it a couple of times, put it in and out my pocket frequently and the screen is doing great. Dropped my glass screen phone before and screen shattered. So happy plastic screens are making a comeback with foldables as they are much more durable as they are more shatter proof! Scratches on plastic screen protector can be replaced. The Mate XT is my new dream device! God Bless Us!

@@mizoalmasri3022 Glass is hard but it's not tough. Plastic is tough but not very hard. Tough things can take an impact and rebound and be fine. Hard things resist scratching from things that are less hard than them. We've sacrificed durability for a premium "feel" with phones. Glass was never more durable. It wasn't supposed to be. It's just more scratch resistant. Phones were moving in a very durable direction when we went from plastic backs and bodies to aluminum. But then a couple of companies made glass and ceramic backed phones and we were done. Now a days to get something without a glass back you pretty much have to go budget.

I have a Galaxy Fold Z 5 and love it. This Huawei looks great and it maximizes what I love about foldable, phone when I need it, mini-tablet when I need that. I hope this model encourages more competition in the foldable market. I would definitely go tri-fold.

Be careful with fold 5. This is my second repair already within 1 year. The phone came with hardware issues, and samsung replaced the entire inner screen and module. The second repair is about inner screen cracking. It is not acceptable with top spec phone costs over 2K USD. Samsung quality has gone down significantly over the years

besides Apple and Xiaomi, all other brands like Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Honor already had tri-fold phone prototypes...problem is there are more challenges to deal with than just making an extra part to make it tri-fold. If you understand Chinese, then you can see some reviewers inspecting and explaining the tech used in this phone. This new tri-fold phone from Huawei was able to be made so thin because they were able to thinning the battery so it can fit in a thin body....someone in China already opened up this phone to show ppl the tech inside. The next part is the hinge, given it's a much thinner phone, the hinge can't be design as bulky as it was for normal foldables. And then there's the outer layer of the folding screen which uses the latest foldable glass at 0.03mm. Something Samsung is also using in its latest folding phones. Since you using Samsung, it might be a challenge for Samsung to make a tri-fold at the moment. First of all, Samsung's previous tri-fold prototype is a different one than Huawei. It all folds inward, where as for Huawei, it's one inward and one outward. Samsung isn't very keen to using outward folding, that's why you see Huawei had one before while Samsung doesn't. So in Samsung's tri-fold prototype, the phone is actually very thick after folding, and leaves a big gap of hold on one of the hinge, because it needs extra space for folding the 3rd layer. Another reason for Samsung maybe unable to release one yet, is because of the battery and heat dispensing issue. If you recall there was a year when many samsung galaxy exploded before. That had something to do with their frame design and battery and heat dispensing design. And their battery issue lasted for quite a long time. Two years ago, a lot of US phone commentators found all versions of the Samsung phones they hold have battery issues, all the batteries expended...good thing it didn't reach a point of explosion. Not just one, but many commentators... So that's why we are seeing Samsung phones still so thick, even their foldable phones are thick as they fear too thin will give the battery not enough space to expend if it gets hot, and may damage the battery to cause explosion.

A lot of people may have forgotten or not even realize, Huawei already have a working protype foldable phone in testing before the US led mafia West sanctioning Huawei. And that just after the first quarter of the year when Huawei has just reached #2 cell phone global sales market share passed Apple and on the way to pass Samsung also. Huawei was way ahead of other companies such as Samsung especially on foldable phones but the US led sanctions have disrupted such development and delayed it till now. But of course, Huawei will never allow any backdoor from the US to put onto their phones unlike the other big top companies. Huawei is the hope of freedom to mankind from true tyranny.

3.6 mm is the thickness when unfolded* It's truly amazing to see they put such amazing camera system with periscope zoom, and Samsung still puts mid level cameras on z series. They also managed to include wireless charging which is awesome plus fairly big battery

The first generation of a new product is always more expensive. The price will drop after the subsequent production capacity catches up. Huawei's first folding screen mobile phone was also 3,000 US dollars. By the third generation, it was already 1,300 US dollars.😅

@@rocco5160 Yeah. It's really going to pay off to be patient in this regard. Then the tech, material etc. will improve with the subsequent generations as well. But I do like that they give you the extra stuff with the Huawei Mate XT like the wireless earbuds, a couple of chargers and wires, as well as a cover for the phone. Definitely wouldn't get that with Apple!

I feel like this form factor helps the case for folding phones finally make sense, most importantly getting rid of the weird aspect ratio the bi-fold landscape folding phones have suffered from(it also gets rid of the need for an inner camera which I think is a plus). I hope we can see more innovation in this direction from other companies!

I don't know how you would engineer this, but I think it'd be cool if you had 3 modes. You can use it as a phone with a typical screen, unfold it once to use it as a "normal" fold, then unfold it again to have the largest display for media, etc.

Having experienced "folded phones" myself, I can already say, that I will never get back to ordinary phones. As a massive tablet fan, I am highly impressed with this tri-fold foldable. There are rummors, that Samsung will bring its first one on the market at the end of 2025. If it is true and if it supports stylus, I would trade in my new Samsung Galaxy Fold Z6 ans get rid of my Ipad Air 2024 in a blink of an eye. That would be an ultimate all-round gadget for me till the day it stops functioning.

It's still hard to say if Samsung can release a tri-fold yet..it took Huawei about 4 years of R&R to make the tri-fold so thin. If you have seen Samsung's prototype, the way they fold the phone is all inward... that means the 3rd layer will need to be thicker on its fold, leaving the hinge area with hole of gap...maybe can fit a stylus there..but not a smart design for sure. Samsung isn't keen to outward folding, which is why we never seen one from Samsung, only Huawei has such design. And if Samsung isn't willing to adapt to an outward folding design, then either Samsung will need to be able to make something even thinner than what Huawei got now, or stick to the big hole on one of the hinge. Guess we'll see what happens next year, what Samsung might show us if they are able to mass-produce one. And I think if Samsung do release a tri-fold, it most likely will come with a stylus...it's basically their symbol. While for Huawei, they provide a foldable mini-thin keyboard that also has a touchpad which you would get from a laptop. Huawei also got a stylus which can be used on the tri-fold too. But that's not a main selling point, and it wasn't design to specifically used on folding phone to begin with. It's mainly for actual tablet, but can be used on foldables as well...but majority of foldable users don't actually use a pen on their phone....as there's not much need of using a stylus on a phone to begin with. Even for me on a tablet, I almost never use a stylus on the tablet unless I need to draw stuff. Maybe for people who use them for work or at school might use the stylus more.
