Children can have more than two parents or people as guardians. This needs to be supported better. Also a "Bedtime" mode like "School Time" is needed. Finally, the watch has twice been helpful when a parent's phone has run out of power.The child felt like a hero.

Thanks for the review. So far the cellular network and GPS connection has been awful on this watch, at least for us. This made it useless for both connecting and locating with the child. Also, one big difference with other watches (Garmin Bounce) is no automatic location tracking and no geo-fencing (which means no notification when a child enters/leaves school). I wonder if they will improve this. EDITED feedback: a watch restart improved cellular connection reliability by quite a lot.

I also found out from Apple that I can have complete control on my son's SE watch if he is under 13 and afterwards I can call them and have it so that I still keep control. I think in this day and age, with so many school shootings 911 is needed for young tweens to have.

This is marketed for kids as young as probably 7. 911 functionality would be insane at that age. Not sure how 911 would help in a school shooting as there are typically school resource officers that have a direct radio to dispatch and probably every adult at a school has a phone

this is an excellent question if thats something that can be managed in app. otherwise, they say the other person needs the app. preliminarily, it seems it would not be an option. Should be considered if it is not.

I have a couple of questions? Clearly the ACE lte is not available outside the US. However we have been gifted this by a family friend for my 8 year old and we live in Asia. Is the FITbit games arcade accessible without the subscription to the ACE pass? Can we make calls/ send messages over wifi only or does this feature require the data plan(which again is available only for US customers)?

To use the Fitbit Ace LTE games I believe you will need the subscription but then you will only be able to make calls when connected to WiFi. I'm not sure if the FitBit Ace app will be available on your phone but if it is calling will be possible.

Yes, you just go into the Fitbit Ace app and you can invite contacts and just accept the invite in the email and can start communicating.

I was looking at this compared to the garmin bounce. Does this watch have any way to track chores? Maybe in the form of these quests? Thank you, it is lacking a chores tracker and there is no Geo Fencing. The GPS tracker has worked well enough for us (it just takes a little longer to update than I would like) and I really like that their location shows up in Google Maps.

You need to go into the settings by holding down the top button until the power menu pops up. Then scroll down and go into Settings. Then go into Connectivity and scrolling down you can see the option to turn off airplane mode.

Have you done a deep dive on how School Time works? I'm tremendously disappointed with the difference between the marketing and the actual function, and can't figure out if I'm just missing something. The School Time app page says right on the top "Minimize distractions by disabling games as well as silencing calls and notifications." But it doesn't seem to actually do that. Other than blocking the ability to make calls, it seems to do nothing. When I send a text to the watch when its in School Time mode, I get a response saying "Notifications are silenced" but the watch gets a pop up notification. I contacted Google support, and they told me that is the expected behavior. Seems like outright lying in their positioning of this function. Two calls to Google support could not point me to other settings either in the Ace app or Google's Family Link.

ONE HUGE MISS! Just got this for our son and we cannot add his siblings, who are older teenagers, because they aren't adults. So those up to 20 contacts they advertise aren't even that useful. Google/Fitbit needs to fix this missing "feature" ASAP!!!!

I would not change the age as that is a quick way to get your account banned. It should work if they are over 13 but I ran into the same issue. I'll keep trying but will see if I can get more info from Google.

So, just confirming...a child would not be able to call a friend who has a gabb watch because all people the Fitbit ace child contacts has to accept an invite and download the Fitbit ace app? Also, I didn't notice.. did the text messages go right to where your regular text messages go or do you have to check them through the app? Thanks!

Correct, you would not be able to message a Gabb Watch because it does not have the Ace app. For the messages nothing is done through the normal texting app on your phone, it is all done through the Fitbit Ace app. You will receive notifications from texts and calls similar to the normal message app, but they will show up from the Fitbit Ace app.

Yes, have used this many times on LTE and Wifi is only needed to initially set up the device. After that, the watch can fully function with calls and texts over LTE.

I do wonder: Is your eejee/levels/etc progress stored server-side? As in, if the watch were lost or broken, does logging into a new watch synchronize your progress back up? It would be a real shame if it wasn't, considering the mandatory subscription and always-online nature of the device. Contacts being whitelisted through the Fitbit Ace app makes sense, but it would be so much better if contacts didn't have to use the app. Asking a grandparent to remember to switch to a non-native messaging app exclusively for messaging their grandkid is really unintuitive, and it makes the communication a lot less accessible (for contacts with minutes but no data). For example, it's iincompatible with TextNow as a result (A service that offers a cheap SIM with free texting/calling, but requires using its own app). Lacking 911 support is a HUGE flaw as well.

Good questions. So I think the eejie is backed up because I factory reset the device already and the eejie came back. The only thing we lost is the daily noodle progress I think. The only complain I really have about using the Fitbit Ace app is that I don't see calls come in through my watch so I have missed calls from the kids. If it relayed that there was a call that would happen much less. I'm ok with not being able to call emergency services. I can see kids abusing that and curiosity getting the best of them. We certainly have taught our kids how to quickly find someone who would be able to call 911 if needed.

It is the way they built the network connectivity inside to work with the LTE network here. They haven't said any more details other than the devices doesn't support roaming.

@@TechWithBrett definitely with the discount the yearly plan is currently good. My younger kids range from 4,5,8,9 they all don't care for the watch. There is no camera(which I knew about but my girls really don't like that. Then you have to download an app to interact with the watch. Reception is a hit or miss in NY where I live .

I dont think Google should have used the term "Subscription" ... People hate that they have to "Subscribe" to things. I would JUMP all over this watch for my twins and my 7 year old... they have green light cards and I hear this watch has or will have an option to enter their ATM card making purchases easier instead of me digging on my purse all the time. I've been waiting on YOU to do a review (been watching you for years) I knew it would be thorough. My concerns is they won't be able to call each other? That is my only issue..I may be wrong...😢 and the fact that other family have to download an app just to call them. That is completely incorrect. The entire benefit of the watch is that it has LTE and can make calls and text anywhere it has service in the US. It needs wifi just to download the games.

The biggest benefit of this is security. This way you know exactly who is able to contact the watch and have control over that in the app.

@@TechWithBrett all the other kid-marketed watches already can control who can contact the child, but you don't need the app just to make a phone call. SyncUp from T-Mobile doesn't require the app for others at all. Only the parent needs it to set it up and locate. i can call and text my nephew that has it without an app. Gizmo from Verizon requires the app for texting the child, but no one needs it to make a call to them.

​​@@TechWithBrettthis is literally my only complaint with the watch also. We have used the Gizmo Watch through Verizon and parents use the app to lock down who can contact them. However, any of those trusted contacts can call them through their regular call list. It's a little annoying that we have to use the app to text message though. Then T-Mobile has the Sync Up Watch. Parents lock down contacts via the app. However, any of those contacts can call or text the same way they would any other contact. I want to upgrade my 9 year old to this Fitbit but requiring the app just for calls is crazy. 😔
