Just wanted to clarify my thoughts on the geo-fencing. They are simply just that.. thoughts. So don't go buying it and thinking it will work anywhere just yet. I should not have used the term designated, as that implies that there is a single specific satellite that you can connect to, but in reality that designation would change as the satellites are constantly moving. Starlink refers to this as scheduled satellites (see below). My take on it is as long as you are within range of the satellite scheduled to serve you (aka within your "Cell"), you will get internet. So not typical geofencing based on a radius around your home address, but they are still restricting how far you can go with it. I have reached out to Starlink in hopes to get clarification on all of this. Will keep you all in the loop! "Your Starlink is assigned to a single cell. If you move your Starlink outside of its assigned cell, a satellite will not be scheduled to serve your Starlink and you will not receive internet. This is constrained by geometry and is not arbitrary geofencing."
@JoneKone4 жыл бұрын
hmm yes.. I have another theory, it's the down link that is the geo lock. as I understand atm. it won't hop the connection from a satellite to satellite so basically every "geo" location has to have a down link.. and if you go outside that area of your down link it won't work. I'm willing to bet a grand total of 1€ that if you where to take your dish to another location where there is another user it will work =) I'm probably totally wrong
@TechwithShae4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it is all theories at this point as I have been unable to find any concrete fact one way or another.
@TheStealthbob4 жыл бұрын
@@TechwithShae Regardless of the method used to restrict the location within the cell I believe this is for testing purposes, to limit the variables and have its use in a controlled environment. Not all cells have full coverage so this makes sense. I am personally fully confidant that in the release version of this system we will be able to relocate out units without issue.
@CESmith4 жыл бұрын
My speculation is that since they'll need to balance usage across(within) cells, they'll continue their form of geolocking even after full release. But, you'll be able to buy a roaming package which might be cheaper if you share where you are going ahead of time. Or, if general roaming is included in the basic price, you'll be deprioritized over those in their home cell with a roaming package if you want priority like the locals.
@JoneKone4 жыл бұрын
@@CESmith The balance in future will propaply be done with ppl just tuning to another satellite, and cause there are so many probably there is a priority sat designation where you can buy access and regular service

This proves we only need two things in the future to work, or run a business: CONNECTIVITY and ELECTRICITY. With connectivity, you have access to the world’s AWS/AZURE/GCP cloud datacenters to run a business. With an uninterrupted electricity power supply, the Starlink dish stays up 24x7, which gives you non-stop access to the internet and cloud datacenters. The future will be a beautiful thing with Elon’s constellation of 50,000 Starlink satellites.

Great video, I don think port forwarding will work because I would bet multiple users share one external IPv4 address, so regular port forwarding has to be done up-stream. Your best bet for port forwarding would be to use a VPS and set up a VPN, have incoming traffic hit the VPN server external IP and the VPN server should NAT the port(s) to the internal VPN IP, that would give you the option to host things with Starlink :)
