I went through more than a dozen review videos of Amazfit Stratos and your video really stood out. Very well done. All I wanted to know was apart from its looks how it really performs especially the HR sensor and GPS. Thank you for your honest review.

Ditching the F5?! That’s a huge endorsement! But I still believe the F5 is for a different class of user, mountaineering for instance. Does this watch offer any ABC functions? How does the extended life battery compare? Great review BTW!
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, the F5 is focused on a different user base. For my intents and purposes, the Stratos is a better fit. For the avid hunter/hiker/outdoors person, the F5 is better. Some of the features that I prefer over the F5 is the touchscreen, the button layout, and the built in music storage.

Absolutely the best review I've seen for this watch. I'm a polar fan because I like zonal warnings etc that nothing else seems to do, especially for gym exercises. But this watch seems great for those who like tracking rather than real time gym assistant stuff. Subscribed.

@TheSaxmansam5 жыл бұрын
Just noticed a possible problem with the way you're reviewing the heart rate monitors on the watches, you have the stratos on your right arm and the fitbit on the left. Your heart is on the left hand side of your chest (which is why when you take a pulse you take it on your left arm). Would it not be better to have them both on the same arm? It could possibly account for the hrm differences you're seeing. Otherwise, good stuff 👍 enjoying the videos
@roosaylonen17685 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm thinking of buying one since it's dirt cheap. I'm mostly gonna use it at the gym, and pair it with an external HR monitor, because I want to know my recovery time and workout intensity. Should I still buy it? Great video by the way! All the other Stratos reviews I've seen are either annoyingly "paid-looking", dishonest or fail to understand it is a ridiculously cheap sports watch.

As usual, excellent content and review! Couple of questions, if you have the time: 1. Does it have a barometric altimeter? 2. Difference between running and trail running profiles? Primarily being a trail runner, I would assume it has to do with VO2 max calculations... Thanks!
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does have a barometric altimeter. According to their website it comes with 2 GB of music storage, a ambient light sensor, geomagnetic sensor, built in Gyro, three axis accelerometer, barometric sensor/altimeter, and the built-in optical heart rate sensor. To be honest I’m not sure what the difference between running and trail running is, since I did not have the opportunity to take this on a trail run, sorry!

I wholeheartedly agree with everything said. Coming from a Garmin vivoactive 3 and this watch blows it away and every category. If I had to have one gripe I would say the stock band isn't the best but you can easily replace that with an aftermarket band
@berniechoy54826 жыл бұрын
Why do you like this better than the Vivoactive 3? I just bought it and while I like it, I kind of wish I had the built in music. Do you do more gym based exercises or steady state cardio?
@IIISWILIII6 жыл бұрын
Bernie Choy the thing I like the most about the Stratos over the Vivo active 3 is the screen quality. The Garmin screen always seemed washed out and wasn't very colorful. Also I like the look and feel of the Stratos better. I don't use mine for music, mainly cardio and mountain biking so GPS is the most important feature I look at.
@berniechoy54826 жыл бұрын
Oh I see. How do you find Bluetooth connection? My Fitbit would have like over 100 ft whereas the Stratos only seems to have 30 ft or so. Is it true about the heart rate accuracy? I've heard bad things about it.

Garmin has the edge as far as choices an aftermarket apps but I was surprised to find that the Stratos had a far better selection of watch faces

Thanks for that video! I got a couple of questions: 1. whenever I run, I get a HR of around 110, but if I get tired and stop running, and start walking for a bit, the HR goes up to 150! Is that normal? How did you judge the accuracy when running? Why is it accurate when running/cycling but it is not when doing strength training? 2. Do you have any idea what is the difference between 3D data on and off?

It depends: if you want a full smart watch experience, I think that the Apple Watch delivers that, and obviously it includes a robust fitness and health platform as well. The Amazfit Stratos is a gps watch, and very limited on the smart features. But it also provides a closed health and fitness platform, something simple and yet advanced at the same time. I have the luxury of having access to both, and I will use both, but if I had to choose only one, I would probably stick with my Apple Watch

Great video. Trying to find a new smartwatch for cycling that would provide me with heart rate monitoring and GPS, gpx import with route tracking for 200-300km / 20-25 hours. Xiaomi's Amazfit Stratos has captured my attention but am not sure if the size is large, the buttons grave into my left hand's wrist, the battery lasts enough for 20-25 hours with GPS enabled and route tracking. Have you tried this or any other sports smartwatch with success for such cycling events? Also like that it might pair with my external cadence sensor, but don't know if this will be battery draining the watch. Have you tested any external sensors?

Very much looking forward to receiving my Amazfit 2 now.I was wanting to lash out on a Fenix 5 Sapphire but couldn't justify the expense for my athletic abilities. Great review, big thumbs up!!. One thing I don't understand, and if someone would care to explain that would be appreciated is why the HRM is accurate with steady state cardio activities only, and not so good with resistance training, isn't the HRM just monitoring the heart, why would it discriminate what exercise you are doing. Cheers.

I believe most optical wrist based sensors are like that. It's taking your pulse off your wrist, so when you constantly move it, it's quite confused since the watch is constantly moving.

Correct, the Strava app will only import the data that is compatible with their interface, so I have found that the Amazfit app provides a more detailed look than the free version of Strava.

hello eric, congratulations for the videos you're the best ever. I'm Italian and I use google translate so forgive bad English. I am looking for an activity tracker to monitor daily activity, calories, sleep and heart rate. I would like to spend a maximum of 160/170 $. Which one would you recommend? The only sports that I would possibly practice would be: "weight lifting" indoor bikes and fast walking. Although in reality I am a very sedentary type. I'm intrigued by amazfit products for competitive price. I like polar because they record how long you are sitting or standing or lying down. Which activity tracker did you recommend for my needs? thanks Eric
@TechyAgent5 жыл бұрын
Based on your needs, you could get by with something without GPS. The new Fitbit Versa Light could work very well. It has a fantastic heart rate tracker for gym exercise like weightlifting. The Amazfit products a good too, but the heart rate sensors aren’t as good as Fitbit right now.

I primarily lift weights. I am 54 years old and I have been a fan of Fenix watches for some time, but have been having bad experiences with Fenix, specifically through Amazon. With that said, I noticed that the pixels are higher on the stratos, do you agree? A bit easier to read indoors when compared to the Fenix? Would you say that if I push it, and don't use an external strap, can I still get a decent heart rate reading on the watch? Finally, can you tell me if the notifications come in fast on the watch after they hit an Android phone, and is the vibration strong on the wrist when they do come through? Sorry to bug you. I know you are a popular and busy man. Thank you.
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
I would say that for strength training exercises the built-in heart rate on this is not great, and you would want to use an external sensor. But for cardio exercise this will definitely hold up great. I actually prefer it over my Fenix 5, as crazy as that sounds
@lm76926 жыл бұрын
I am super appreciative that you actually responded. Thank you. I just received the Stratos today and so far I am impressed. And for $170, who in their right mind would complaint. @Techyagent Thanks for the much awaited review. Can you please confirm that the daily metrics (steps, resting HR, floors climbed, distance etc.) are accurate when compared to your any other accurate metric? I remember reading on the xda forums that the steps and floor climbed is inaccurate and also the resting HR data (taken at specific intervals) is not synced to the app on the device. Also, can you please tell us which profile you used to do indoor HIIT, cardio, weight lifting exercises? I would like to have the following data points captured in an indoor workout (avg. HR, max HR, current HR, calories, HR zone, duration along with current time displayed). Also, is there any way to change the name of the workout on the app once it is synced to the app since the Stratos currently lacks a indoor gym profile. What about the pairing to external HR sensor? Does it remember the setting and also do we have to do it for every workout profile? Finally, how good is the display quality indoors? It is better than Garmin 645? Sorry to ask too many questions. Your answers would definitely help with all our purchase decisions. Thank you.
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
I think that the resting heart rate and steps are accurate, within an acceptable degree of error. The floors climbed is off though. For HIIT and weight lifting I used the indoor running profile. That way I could get my heart rate and calorie information without using the GPS indoors. For any cardio outside, I would use whatever designated profile I was doing, like running or cycling. I don’t think there is a way to change the name of the work out in the app, although I could be wrong on that, but it’s a feature that I haven’t explored or used
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
It remembers the external heart rate sensor, so you don’t have to set it up every time you use it. The display quality indoors is about on par with the Garmin 645, but you will definitely want to make sure that the back light is enabled because the screen is definitely dim, similar to other Garmin devices.

@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Lifting too much weight is a very subjective thing. You'll mostly just need to pay attention to your body. If you experience soreness that lasts beyond 2 or 3 days, try backing off. If you don't experience any soreness, try pushing harder. A lot of it can also depend on your age, conditioning, and overall health.

Hi I was wondering what the main differences are with the Fitbit versa and the polar A370. I was wondering which is more accurate with calories burned when weight training and just generally throughout the day. I have the Fitbit flex 2 and the calories burned are way off and its impossible to track my calories burned during a weight session or during HIIT. I’m not too fussed with gps tracking however the waterproof aspect of the Versa is nice. Or if you think there is another tracker on the market right now that you would recommend I would love to know. Thanks

First real review of the Stratos I've seen! As I'm considering changing my Forerunner 230 and given that I don't trust any wrist-based HRM to give me the precision I need, if I paired this with Scosche's new Rhythm2, would it only receive Heart Rate or also Bluetooth Smart Running Speed Speed/Cadence and Cycling Cadence?
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about the smart running speed, but I do know that it would get heart rate and probably cadence as well. But I have not tried it with that specific band, so I’m not entirely sure
@Nyght-085 жыл бұрын
Thank you Eric! You have by far the best smartwatches/bands reviews on youtube!! I just have one question. Have you tried changing sports profiles while at the gym to see if there's an improvement in the heart rate monitor? For instance; using ski profile instead of jogging. Perhaps it might trigger something in its algorithm and consequently get better results! Thanks in advance!
@TechyAgent5 жыл бұрын
That’s a good thought, and I don’t know for sure what Amazfit does, but I do know that Garmin and Fitbit don’t change their sampling rate based on different sports profiles. So I would imagine the same would probably be true for the Amazfit, meaning that it unfortunately would not make a difference.

I would say that the Stratos is definitely larger, although I have found it to be pretty comfortable, and I have small wrists for a guy. Hello Techy Agent, I have watched alot of your reviews and your content is amazing. 5 stars for sure! I have a dilemma trying to decide what watch is going to be best for me and need some professional advice. I am torn between an Amazfit Stratos paired with a Scoche Rhythm+ or the Fitbit Versa. I mainly do Weight Lifting, HIIT, and Circuit Training. Integrated GPS is not a big deal neither is NFC pay (my bank does not support it lol) but I am looking for one that has accurate HR tracking, reliable step counting, aesthetically pleasing to look at, indepth stats, and good battery life. During both your times with both trackers which one would fit me best? I am 6ft 224lbs not a big runner but run mostly indoors cause where I live and where my gym is. I know you are a busy man but would love to hear your feedback. Thank you sir!
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Well, the Stratos paired with the Scosche will give you more accurate heart rate information. But the versa does have a designated strength training profile, the Stratos does not. I personally would still go with the Stratos, because I feel like it will hold up better in a gym and the heart rate accuracy will be good when paired with the Scosche, and you can always use another work out profile to get an estimate of your calories.
@brandonparlett73546 жыл бұрын
Was your experience with the Stratos paired with the Rhythm+ a better experience in a gym setting vs the Versa? What profile in the Stratos do you recommend to get accurate count of HR, calories, and can you set an interval timer in the same profile when doing Supersets, Giant Sets, Circuit, etc. Also I work in a office setting so I am sitting alot as well sadly. Does the Stratos have continuous HR monitoring, calorie burn at rest? How is it for normal everyday life at work? Also is the experience good when not paired to BT? My work setting will NOT allow Bluetooth to be on as well. Thank you so much for the reply! I know I have alot of questions but I always do a fair amount or research and analysis and this is a big decision for me so I do take your feedback to heart. Thanks Techy Agent!

@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point, this is probably more in line with something like the Vivoactive 3. In terms of features, and overall build quality, this is a better option over the Vivoactive 3, but there are some key differences. While the Stratos has built-in music storage, it does not have a golfing app, which I do miss. But since I am not an avid golfer, I’m willing to let that feature go in order to gain a different feature that I will use more. I think the built-in optical heart rate sensor that Garmin is offering is better, But this is adequate enough for steady state cardio, and if you need it for anything more than that you can always connect it to an external heart rate sensor

Techy Agent thank you so much! People should pay more attention to the brands little known in the US. It hurts for someone who just spent nearly 300 dollars on a vivoactive 3 and only do running. 😂
@berniechoy54826 жыл бұрын
Hi. For someone who does running, lifting weights, HIIT and Crossfit, what would you recommend? I currently have the Vivoactive 3, but am considering returning it after watching this video. I only run twice a week though. Is the HR accuracy at least on par with Fitbit? I do find Garmin seems to better than Fitbit in HR IMO.

Hi... Litle help. Witch is better to buy fenix 3 hr, vivoactive 3 or amazfit stratos. My exercise is crossfit. Thank you

Hello. I've bought a Stratos and I really like it. But one question: Does Stratos calculate all day calories burned ? Becuase mine just shows me the calories burned while in an activity or walking. So, i finished my day with just 500-600 hundred calories burned. I've got a Galaxy Watch before and that one records all day calories burned ( aprox. 2500 kcal/day )
@experimental19915 жыл бұрын
Same problem here :)) also, what is the size difference between FNX5 and Stratos? Is Straros smaller?

wonderful review. I wonder, I play table tennis and I want to track this activity , can I do it with this watch? and if so how? I think there is a tennis setting that also counts the strokes, can i use this with table tennis as well?
@TechyAgent5 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming that it could at the very least, track your heart rate. I am not familiar with the tennis setting, and I’ve never used that sports mode, so I can’t speak as to how well it does.

Best review about Stratos! Thank you Eric! Please clarify few details if you don't mind)) Did you test it on treadmill? Is it enough accurate data of heart rate in Run Indoor mode? Does the pulse measure every second or less often?
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have used it on a treadmill and it does great: after your run it will give you an estimate of how far you went but you can change the distance based on what your treadmill is telling you, essentially calibrating the watch. And it does measure your pulse every second while you are running.

Great review. I would like to buy the stratos. I guess it is to large for a small lady wrist.
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
It is rather large, even larger than the Amazfit Pace. However the pace is moderately sized, my wife uses it as her daily tracker and it provides similar results, Although it’s not quite as robust in terms of features.

Thanks for the great review as usual. Will the app sync data with Google Fit? I just like having my data in once place, that and having continuous historical data is useful for general trending.
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
It will if you have an android phone. That feature is not available on the iPhone.

Great watch,.Great review as usual, May i ask a question. Dose Stratos pair with other Bluetooth device like bike speed/cadence sensor?
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
It does, yes, however Amazfit has not given a list as to which accessories work, so you basically have to hope and just try.

can you get to the music menu while running? Usually the bluetooth headphones offers the possibility of changing songs and volume, but still it would be nice to get to the menu while working out...

Good question! I’m actually not sure, I’ll have to follow up with you. What I’ve been doing is starting the music prior to my workout and then starting my workout after the music is playing.

Thanks for the review. I know it is a fitness review but what about the sleep tracking, the temperature sensor, the continous heart rate option how frequent does it really measure?

hi :) i would like to ask you what are the main differences between Startos and Garmin Forerunner 235? i am looking for a watch for half marathons and some easier trail runnings (10-15km with max. 500m elevation) and they have a very similar price tag (at least in my country) and i'm a bit stuck which is the better choice...and I'm a bit worried that maybe the Stratos can look too big on a girl's hand...thanks for helping me :)

Great video as usual. I had a couple of question... Did you find it tracked calories burned for various exercises and steps pretty well compared to other trackers and does it factor in your base metabolic rate to give you a total combined for each day? I also heard you can sync it with Google Fit which will in turn sync the data with MyFitnessPal, just trying to figure out a way for it to play nice with other apps...
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I felt it tracked calories accurately, and it does give you a base metabolic rate. I did not see where it synced with Google Fit, however I only used this with my iPhone, the android app may have that feature.
@getfitover406 жыл бұрын
I have never used Google fit as a go-between in my Android Phone, I have been using Samsung Health with my Gear Sport but it kinda sucks, lots of inconsistencies. Apple Health is way better so hopefully Google Fit will work better.

Techy Agent was it accurate using the built-in HR sensor or your arm HR strap?
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
The built-in sensor works fine for steady state cardio exercise like jogging, but for Gym based exercise I had to use an external heart rate band to keep it accurate.
@edderepa96856 жыл бұрын
Techy Agent thanks for the reply. Got told off by my fiance when I came home with a Versa special edition that I got for 175 USD after watching your review... Will keep it over the gear sport that I got a week ago it seems :-)...I need to stop watching your reviews though haha

Great vid! I noticed you were jump roping; what fitness tracker would you recommend for jump rope?
@TechyAgent5 жыл бұрын
Something that has a really good heart rate sensor like a Fitbit Versa or Apple Watch series 4. I know a lot of people don’t consider those to be heavy hitters as fitness trackers, but they have the best optical heart rate sensors compared to the competition and you’ll need something that has excellent heart rate tracking for jumping rope.
@philipsoliman69765 жыл бұрын
@@TechyAgent This is extremely helpful and I appreciate it! Like your content a lot. So, thank you sir! PS: you'd think the Polar Vantage series would have extremely accurate HR-sensors, due to the sheer number of LED's on the watch. Really quite disappointing that these models underperformed.

Whoa. That's a strong thumbs up. Good to know. It's alot lighter if you already have the 5X. But, if you have a Garmin VA3 like me it may be pretty heavy to wear. Are you able to archive or reply to social media notifications?
@TechyAgent6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s somewhere in between the weight of the 5X and VA3. You can dismiss incoming calls, but other than that you cannot reply to social media notifications. It does keep an archive on the watch of your most recent notifications. You can access them by swiping up from the bottom of the screen

It seems to acquire the GPS signal quickly and maintain the signal throughout the workout/run/bike ride. I would put this right up there with the Samsung gear sport in terms of GPS accuracy

It tracks your heart rate periodically throughout the day, but not constantly. I think that the Gear S3 has a better heart rate sensor, but in just about every other way I would prefer the Amazfit.
