excellent video and tutorial. I would like to use this technics to cut a fuselage of a plane. the cut half profiles should be changed anytime the rotary axis moves. I am looking for a software to generate the gcodes... not found yet ! Any idea on how to cut this king of non symetical profiles ?

Excellent review. I am interested in cutting foam wings, Is it limited to constant chord wings ? or are you able to cut different root and tip chord widths and thicknesses ?

It can only cut constant chord wings, for different root and tip wings you need a 4 axis machine.

hi, your video turned out great! I’ve had the machine for less than a year and everything was fine, I adjusted the string tension, temperature and speed. all was good. But a couple of days, in places where the string passes simultaneously along the X-axis and the Y-axis, small waves are visible on the cut material due to the fact that the string vibrates. square shapes cut fine. but on rounded forms a problem appears. maybe you can tell me how to fix this?

Unfortunately discontinued. Non commercial CNC hotwire cutters seem to as rare as hens teeth ! I've found a manufacturer in Eastonia ( a country just east of Germany) and asked for a quote. They make commercial machines, but I've asked them to quote on their smallest machine that looks a similar size as this one.

I now use a single point attachment hot wire, that I pull the wire around an inside aluminum template to make tapered wings. It's like 138" long.Would this one have enough strength to allow a couple of pounds pull on the wire attachment to direct the wire around the airfoil shape? Thanks! 😀

There's gotta be a better way to make gcode than that Inkscape plugin. I've been using it for engraving/milling and it grates a bit.

I agree it wouldn’t be a natural choice, although I like Inkscape itself. You can use pretty much any cad / cam with a grbl post processor.

Diy your own it's basically a 3d printer sibling. most of the parts are the same. i made mine from an old printer and scrap wood had to buy like $40 worth of stuff to finish it. this is the best video i have found to make the gcode. check out "rckeith" he's got all the plans to make one .
