As a german I can confirm, acids like citrus or vinegar do attack corrosion and eat it away while vinegar works the best for all natural solutions. There´re even better options industry wise (cleaners for restaurants e.g) but I wouldn´t trust those regarding other parts, they might take rust of even better but also might kill other components. But even with vinegar be careful mate, metal only because I don´t know how the PCB and other components react to the acid and I would try that on something broken and not worth repairing anymore.

Good find! But who stole the cooler shrouds from every single card?
@chrisbutterfield75722 күн бұрын
As someone who uses vinegar to remove rust and corrosion you want to mix it with water about 50/50 and use it before the ultrasonic cleaning because vinegar is an acid and can damage the cards if left behind.

now that 9 of them work, maybe consider putting those vrm heatsinks back in? Invest in a multimeter, bro. Do the basic tests for shorts before plugging them in. Yes, the PSU should cut, and save the boards, but it's not a guarantee you won't smell the magic smoke. It only takes a few seconds to check - which will save the time of reassembly if you find it's short. Worth trying the vinegar in the ultrasonic bath too. The dead one... Is it code 43? Run mats/mods on it. Probably dead ram.

Vinegar is good to remove rust and corrosion, but it is corrosive itself. Dilute the vinegar and don't leave it on for long. Good wash afterwards. Look for Adrian's digital basement youtube videos for computer restorations. The gear he restores is amazing. Really like your videos, saving gear is brilliant and so is price vs performance.

About the vrm heatsinks, might want to look into getting some thermal putty like k5 pro, instead of thermal pads. Means you don't need to care about cutting pad, getting right size, etc etc. Just slap a few dollops on there, spread it out over the vram / vrms, and you're done. I've used it on my own GPUs as well as flipping pcs, no issues to report. The only negative might be people who don't know what it is thinking that it's "wrong", but someone who's buying a pre built pc is probs never going to open their GPU up anyway, and it works fine.
