I wish we could get some more fun games like this now. Sure they'd be unlicensed but so what? Super Mega Baseball is unlicensed and that game is phenomenal. I'd love a good arcade football and hockey game on a current system.

@Guiltless765 I buy the one for NES every year. But to actually put it on xbox and have an official game would be great. I could game with my buddy from across the country. Tecmo throwback is ok, but even the nes and snes is better. The NFL needs to quit with the exclusivity they have with EA Games and let the people enjoy.

San Fran was absolutely unstoppable !!! My favorite game hands down. I still have my SNES with the super joystick and this game. I also have an emulator with this game on my phone with an editor to unlock all the free agents and I placed them on their respective teams. My wife hatef this game when we dated in the 90's and still say "aw come on!!!!" When she hears the intro. Thank you for the video.

What I liked most was their stat tracking and their player quality. In Tecmo there was no easy medium or hard level it was totally a game controlled by the quality of the player.

I love how if you can't switch AI once the ball is hiked. It forces you to choose wisely in packages and coverage schemes. The way it should be. Awesome game

This game still rocks! I'm playing it on my PC with the Znes emulator, and I use the TSB3 manager to edit players/teams so I can run franchise leagues

Fun fact after you win 3 consecutive super bowls you will unlock legends for use in seasons but they are free agents and you'll need to play the trade season. I started a season with the Houston oilers and signed Lawrence Taylor lol

This truly was an awesome game most of the way, and still have it! The only thing I hate about this game was how the computer A.I. was ridiculously dumb, and easy to beat most of the time, and pretty much had to go easy for a fair challenge, not to mention that certain players were way too overpowered. Other than that, it was definitely one of the better football games ever released, and was one that just about anyone could play too.

Yes win 3 SB in a row with the same team... All the HOF players are available. Names are not displayed but you know who they are. Love having Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary amd Gale Sayers on the same team!

When I was a pre-teen I played Tecmo Bowl with my dad all the time on the nes. I never bought Super Tecmo Bowl, then I ended up selling my nes and bought a Sega Genesis. Once I played the first Madden game, which was really original and ground breaking for its time for a football game, that's all I consider when I played football games. I'd be interested to play this on the snes, in fact, I had no idea they were still making Tecmo football games after the nes days.

Once Tecmo decided to become more of a simulator instead of the over the top arcade game, that killed it. By the time this came out, Madden and the Joe Montana series already had the market and was simply better games. Tecmo Bowl & Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES are classics. Once it went 16 bit, it was over for this franchise.

@jbailey598 yup, if EA had any ethics, they'd release madden every 2 years at the most. You can offer a roster update via DLC(for a fee) plus there is no reason to redesign the gameplay/physics every year.

Jeremy M I think it's more about the accuracy to realism and depth of playbooks... tecmo had the best gameplay back then, but the playbooks where small, limited, and even when they added defensive formations, it was pretty slim. Madden was "real football" back then, this was more like NFL blitz

I Loved the Tecmo bowl games. Still have all but this one though. Still great to go back and play them even now. As far as EA goes, they suck incredibly huge balls for buying the NFL license. That took out all competitive creation to give the consumers better products every year... now it's all just the same with 1 or 2 new things added. Football is my all time favorite sport, and I haven't bought a new game since NFL 2k5.

The only bad thing about this version is that interceptions are an incredibly rare occurrence, making pass defense quite difficult to pull off against the pass happy offenses.

I agree. I played the hell out of the Nintendo version and only recently picked up the 16-bit editions, and found them to be tighter, more full-featured versions of what I loved about the NES edition. The PS1 version was pretty bad, and I was sort of disappointed by this edition. The new one on Nintendo DS is pretty faithful to the original, however.

I've always wondered who the personalities were behind the beginning of this franchise. I know Itagaki worked on The later Super Tecmo Bowls, he's also responsible for the Ninja Gaiden reboots(also a personal favorite)

after the first superbowl win the game would say something like " no one has won 3 superbowls in a row" so you would try and season 3 was tough . Every play you picked so would they on defence and they would smash your offence line and kill the QBs before you could throw the ball . Good times . I liked being Marino and the dolphins with redskin playbook

Tons. You can create a player, pick different defensive sets, 2 playbooks, players spin, hurdle, you can dive, player pictures, highlights in game with stats, the Panthers and Jaguars are on here, audibles, deeper substitutions, can trade players in season mode. I can keep going on and on
