I think there should be a National Orange Radio Day. This Tecsun deserves to be the grand marshal of it. Great radio!

I bought that radio a couple weeks ago. I didn’t need it,but it’s orange! It seems to be a decent radio, but it’s orange! It’s more money than I would like, but it’s orange! But if asked why I bought it I would never say, cause it’s orange!

I remember the Eton FR 200 that I had, that thing would drift more than a Japanese sports car. Nice review. 👍

I found your channel a few days ago and just wanna say I really enjoy your radio reviews 👍 I’ve been going out a lot more and was in need of something I can use to listen to some tunes that didn’t require a cellular network, streaming music in my area and connecting to a Bluetooth speaker is a pain but then it dawned on me. I loved radio growing up but didn’t know what to get, that’s when I stumbled across your channel. Anywho, just wanted to say thank you! Wouldn’t have gotten one without your reviews; keep it up 😁

I recently purchased a Kaito KA 390 it won't hardly get any AM reception without raising the external antenna. Thanks for the great review!

When I saw the thumbnail and clicked on the link to the radio on Amazon the first thing I thought was "They still MAKE those?" I remember when the Eton and its ilk came out back in the day, I had no idea they were still being produced. I like the color, it's pretty close to Safety Orange. The odd AM behavior makes me wonder about getting one, but the SW performance seems to make up for that. As for the USB charging ability....that radio was originally designed for the era when smartphones weren't really a thing yet and everyone carried Feature Phones. I'd be surprised if the USB port could put out more than 750 milliamps; an iPhone 14 Pro Max isn't even going to *notice* that. (10,000 Milliamp Hour USB power banks are so common and cheap these days that not having one to keep charged is silly, and of course, you could charge the *radio* with one too). I might still get one though since I like the design.

Hej Todderbert thanks for the review of the Tecsun GR-98 it seems to a nice emergency radio from Tecsun and yes I have many Tecsun radios love the brand but but weird that you have to pull out that antenna half way on AM scans. But agree with you, that's probably how they did it in the circuit board but I think the Eaton RF-250 looks better and yes also love the fast and slow tuning wheel it has take care and have a nice day.

I wish they would come out with a spring loaded dynamo ,maybe a light and solar panel to use as a charging station for your radios. My little Belka 2022 model which looks like it would fit inside that radio’s speaker grill just picked up 720 KHz WGN in Tucson last night. I have not heard a Chicago station since 1986 on my stolen Sony AF-100 which was WBBM. Most people that would buy this radio have better radios to use in emergencies, so an emergency charging station would be welcome and more practical with a digital display and memories set to all the relevant frequencies. One thing I did notice your radio did pickup old BS (Brother Stair) from the dead, so it did better than I thought it was going to….😂! Have a nice weekend!

hello, good morning. How are you? In your opinion, which DSP model is better, the GR88P or the GR98? I'm very doubtful and I always try to be guided by your excellent videos when I want to consult about a specific radio model. Can I still find the GR88 version with the double tuning button, where the smaller one does the fine tuning? I have only found the DSP version. Thank you very much for your attention, big hug!

As far as geting your all your weather info on AM FM. Ideally yes the small town that I use to live . The city had a power outage and the one FM radio station in town lost power too and then no radio signal till the next day but NOAA was still up and running. Buyer be ware . I live in the greater KC area now where you we have muliti radio stations on both Kansas and Missouri side very very slim chance of that happening here. So keep that in mind depending on where you live.

I'd like to see the 60 meter band added to radios like this. A good tropical band that can be heard at night in the USA. Also the MW not going up to 1710 for the US market is not good. I get stations in that part of the band. And overall I prefer emergency radios that get not only NOAA but do the NOAA alert thing too. But I realize this is a budget radio so it seems pretty good for the money.

I was under the impression that all radios made for the US market after 1993 were required to have the Extended AM Band, so I find that odd.

no, you need the older Eton FR-300 for those. You give up the SW band.

My question is if the 🔋 is flat, how long to get a full charge by winding and how long will it play for. It is, after all, an emergency radio.
@todderbert Жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of those little cordless packs. If you had to rely on it, I would say charge it with the dynamo for a few mins to get the information you need. The radio should be operated on AAs. Dynamos in these radios are meant for short use. Winding them for more than five minutes heats them up.
@fixman88 Жыл бұрын
I have a lot of radios that have cranks and I would only use them as a matter of last resort. I keep batteries (and recharged USB power packs) around (you could use one to keep the radio's battery charged if need be) so I make sure that won't happen. One of my USB power banks even has a flip-out *solar panel* if things ever get *that* bad.

@@fixman88 I think I may have had some unrealistic ideas about winds up radios.
