I just received the Tecsun Pl 330. I am 75 and memory issues, so it is a bit confusing. All the bands and numbers are challenging, but exciting when I get a distant station. I also have the 680 and the 990. I am amazed at the 330.

@@RonnieCearley I actually do have the Eaton 750 elite which is basically the same radio as the tecsun 2000. But for what I do it seems to work just fine. I enjoy the radio a lot. But I do think it's over priced.

You might want to look at the TECSUN R-909. It old style analog, so simpler to use. And just costs about 25usd.

Great review. I am a Canadian Amateur Radio Operator. I have dropped off the radar in the ham world, personal reasons. I am loving the Shortwave Radio hobby currently. Compared to what I used in the 60's with my dad's unit. I am waiting for delivery of my pl-330 currently. Can't wait. Apparently it is a winner 🏆!!

Maybe you know this already, but you can use the ETM button or the VF/VM button to auto scan. I use the ETM feature all the time.

You mean the SO239 female UHF socket?. Lol I just got those tecsun wire antennas, 7m long I believe. I also just got the 330 but find its not that easy for me to use but I'm a greenhorn anyway. Lol I must read the instructions.😁👍

Yeah that's hard to remember everything when you're doing a live video lol. My old memory doesn't work that well anyway. Hope you enjoy the radio. I love mine. I think you'll get good with it if you use it often. If I leave a radio for awhile I forget how it all works..I guess that's good Ina way you'll never get bored. Good luck with it. @@northmanproject4007 haha, yes. I know about memory issues. You are right, I need to use it everyday, now I have the external wire, the ETM scan will find frequencies in use. I can't get much on the telescopic antenna. Thanks and have a good weekend. :)

When you utilize an external antenna like the Sangean ANT-60 with the Tecsun pl-330 do you just plug it in and your good or is there a setting on the Tecsun? Thanks

Yes just st plug it in and it works. Some receivers have a switch internal to external. But it's usually right where you plug it in. Since it's a receiver only there's no tuning or anything and your performance will vary based on what frequencies it's resonant on. The better antenna you have the better performance you'll get I use a full 80 m dipole. I'm sure there is something wasted in the user manual for the pl330 as well. Good luck and enjoy

Does SSB help at fining tuning an international broadcasting signal? If for instance Brother Stair is coming in faint on WWCR would the SSB help at pin pointing the Signal better and make it more audible / clearer ? Thanks

Well actually I think it does sometimes depending on conditions. I have done that many times with certain AM stations and it seems to help. You can try changing the bandwidth also it has quite an effect. AMBW button. Press that then look on the right side the volume button also changes the BW. Pretty cool.

@@northmanproject4007 I would first need to order a shortwave with SSB, I have a receiver without it. It is one of the questions I have wondered. I live in Costa Rica and earlier the signals came in very well. For a single hour China International Radio was very clear. At points no static interference. Yet there was a really good health and wellness program on another station, it kept fading in and out….I thought a SSB option would have helped pin point it better. I think shortwave is making a humble resurgence. There seems to be more stations on air these days than in the past ten years. One more question, on a single charge how long does the battery last in the PL 330? Does it drain quickly when not in use for an extended period of time. Thanks again

@@RobHinkforth Well I think the battery life on the Tecsun PL330 is excellent. I have had this one a few weeks now and it is still on full battery life. Plus its a rechargable with included usb cable. For the price you cannot beat it. It's a rechargeable lithium Ion. It's very good. I do recommend this little radio. But to be honest with you, a good receiver matters but the antenna matters even more. I use an 80 meter off center fed di pole with this. There's lots of options out there for antennas but this little radio paired with a good long wire or some sort will work excellent.

@@northmanproject4007 Yes, antennas get the job done. I own a Tucson PL-380 (doesn’t have SSB). Last night it pulled in the signals rather well. All on it’s telescope antenna. With an external like the one you describe, I imagine more channels would have come clearly as well. I live a rural area with very few street lines and cables. That probably has something to do with it as well. Next week I will likely order a PL 330 if they’re in stock. If not, I will consider PL 600, 660, or 680. I am told those are decent receivers as well. I am hearing the BBC World Service again on shortwave down here. One of the cool aspects to using a shortwave is that it gets one away form staring at cell phone screens. Listening to content, I have found, dramatically increases - less visual distractions. I end up tilting my head up towards the sky while listening to shortwave as opposed towards down staring at a screen.

Once you do get a receiver I do recommend a long wire of some sort. MFJ has some inexpensive versions. Just pair that with a bit of coax and im sure youd really be pulling in the stations. Being where you are located im kind of jealous. I don't get some of those stations you were referring to. I plan on putting up a larger long wire since I have 7 acres where I'm at and have the room and no one to tell me i can't lol. Thanks for watching.
