I bought this 📻. It is awesome. I'm in Pennsylvania. It is great for evening am band and sw. Also, picks up daytime sw and strong local am. FM is excellent. Great review sir.

Commenting much later after this interesting video was published but since the R-909 is one of the latest additions to my unreasonably large collection of cheap radios, I thought I'd write that yes, it's a very capable and lovable radio. It sometimes has better SW performance than a more expensive DSP-based radio on weak signals with a lot of fading and phase rotation. Its tuning scale isn't quite accurate, though. So sometimes it's hard to tell what you're listening to.

Just ordered one of these radios and retractable antenna. Nostalgia really. Not sure if you're old enough to remember arial TV antennae but when I was a preteen I hooked one up to a turntable/radio stereo using the antenna clamp to the stereo screws to get reception. I picked up some channel from either Asia or Japan. The outside arial went up way past the roof on a metal tower beside the house. Not sure how I picked up a oriental language channel on the AM/FM stereo out here in the Midwest. Watching these shortwave videos of yours brought back that memory. I like listening to the different channels you show in these SW radio videos. Enjoying this channel too.

Does it need external antenna for AM reception? If I run this stuff by normal pencil battery how much time it will take to consume whole battery? Thanks in advance

It has an internal antenna for MW(AM Broadcast Band), and does fairly well. The batteries last between forty to fifty hours for me.

The R-9012 has more shortwave coverage. If you need good FM reception stick with the 909.

AM in Australia is all government-owned and funded stations. Not worth the effort to dial in.. may as well dial in RT or Aljazeera.
