Tom Skerrit is a famous actor, you saw him in Top Gun and also in the first Alien, where he played captain Dallas, the first officer.

@@baron7755 In the army, expecially in the navy, "first officer" is also referred to the officer in command. Ripley refers to herself as "second officer" after Dallas, which rank is Captain. Last, it's a horror-fantasy and they can also refer to themselves as chairs if they want.
