Wow. You can hear in his voice how defensive and emotional he got when he was confronted with the truth about his grandfather. What an incredible amount of denial he was in. By the time he was two months old, he had already experienced a crippling amount of trauma.

I have to say that I don’t fully agree with the comments made in this video. First it’s never been proven that the grandfather was his actual father and second his mother clearly did love Ted dearly even if the grandfather was abusive and controlling. I’m not saying a rough childhood didn’t contribute to Bundy’s depraved acts of violence to young girls and women, but it’s not the main factor. I have always believed he was a “bad seed” from birth and then environmental factors coupled with a reclusive personality led to his path of destruction. Many people come from broken homes and don’t become serial killers.
@dora1980

I guess you are very young. It's not about broken homes, Ted's parents were never married. The kids noawdays don't understand how the world saw and how they treated the kids who were born out of wedlock. I don't have to say the word they used for these children.You know what word they used.

I don’t feel any judgement is due to Ted’s mother. She was in an extremely difficult position in those days. I think she suffered a lot before and during Ted’s early childhood which we’ll never really know the full extent of, and then again when it became clear that her son was an habitual killer and he was going to be executed. That’s an awful lot for a mother to go through.

And by all accounts she was a loving mother to her children (four of whom didn’t grow up to be serial killers). Just the fact that she took Ted away from her abusive father on her own and in that time period… certainly easier said than done.

@@ManedLionessmaybe, maybe not, there were a lot of families back in the day that raised children like the way he was, even Jack Nicholson's, but none of them became killers. Still though, you are right that this probably didn't help,it's clear there was always something wrong with him but I just don't think it was ever taken seriously or dealt with right, then again though, I can't pretend to know what was going on in Bundy's head to make him the way he was, it could have been anything that people suggested his upbringing, antisocial personality disorder, possible D.I.D. but I guess something in particular might've caused it

What is it with male serial killers and the need to blame it all on their mothers??? I knew that his mother just HAD to be responsible! Never mind that she stood by him and begged for his life even after discovering what a POS he was! She was young and in a difficult situation, big deal. Even Jeffrey Dahmer would call bull on that! There’s no reason or excuse if you will for Ted being the monster that he was.
@stephendiamond9893

I think the reason why Bundy hated women was because he found out that his mother had him out of wedlock, and a home for unwed mothers. And that he was lied to as to who his father was. And he was unsure as to who was mother was until many years later according to reports, he was told that his mother was his older sister, and that his grandmother was the mother. But it turned out that was not the case. So perhaps all the confusion the deception might have sent him out of control

The "story" about Ted in the car when his "younger brother" (Ted didn't have a younger brother when he was living with his grandfather) asked his grandfather about "Ted's real Dad" is a made-up story because as a toddler, any mention of his "real father" would be incomprehensible to Ted. The further assertion that the grandfather became "out of his mind-filled with rage" is a total fiction, because there was no one who could have told her about an alleged incident that had to occur before 1950, when he moved to Tacoma. This Dr. Lewis is truly a fruitcake.

We need a DNA test to know if the grandad is the dad. I think we need to know to understand the root of such evil. It'd explain everyone's behaviour in this family. If there was rape and incest, it'd explain a lot of things. It's not even the genetics involved in incest but more like the home environment and the extreme violence of the rape of a father upon his daughter.

I think only Jeffrey Dahmer seemed to be in a mindset to offer help. Ted, no. He might have been 'broken down' further until enough stress but only the looming execution 'broke him down enough' to even call his mother to confess. He waited until months before to tell Carol Boone The Truth and then she fled immediately, never to be heard from again. That musta hurt Ted immensely, and he clammed up for a long time after that. Only in those final days did he again 'break down' and, even then, he was so tired and sounding confused that his info was sufficiently trustworthy (or remembered correctly). Without that fear of execution, he re-energized his shields and sat back and calculated - or thought he could. This was a delicate balance and, frankly, I don't think his psychology would match (ie, help) in too many cases. Dahmer was much more coherent and forthcoming. But both also said they couldn't do their worse without being drunk. As if that was some kind of helpful realization for them. Would it be to Society? "Gee - I didn't realize people getting drunk can do bad things." Is that the zenith of killer psychology? I HOPE NOT.
