I’m a right leaning centrist and don’t feel comfortable calling myself a conservative while I’m still learning about politics. But I basically almost always agree with the right. I’ve watched many of these hearings from many different individuals. I too agree that many do not answer with a yes or no. HOWEVER (and I truly cannot believe I am saying this) I have heard Garland answer with a yes or no a handful of times. I think out of all these hearings I’ve heard over the last 2 months, he’s answered with a yes or no the most. Again only from the ones I have heard. This seems like one of the very few times from what he has said I am more on his side. I don’t know if there’s an actual video clip where Garland says “parents are domestic terrorists” but if there is I haven’t seen it yet and would love a link with the clip. I have read the memo and it does NOT say that yet many Republican senators question Garland as if he said that. There’s a 26 min clip of him speaking several months ago about “domestic terrorism” I watched a bit this morning but got interrupted. Maybe he says it there. And I do want youngkin to be VAs next governor. But just what I’ve seen with my own two eyes, it seemed Garland was willing to answer questions and a lot of republicans didn’t even let him at times. At first, I could have sworn that Beckerman answered the question and I didn't understand what Cruz was doing. For anyone else who was confused by this. I realized he could not answer it straight forward. I love Cruz' tenacity and ability to pin. Beckerman is using legal jargon to avoid binarily answering the question "yes" or "no" creating a backdoor escape for himself for future use. It's a yes or no question and he is covering his you know what. The entities are obviously linked, otherwise he would simply answer yes or no. This is most obvious at the end of the exchange when Cruz says let me get this right in that you are saying "they are not linked" which would pin Beckerman to that statement and then Beckerman has to go back into his jargon again.

No. Then Cruz explains the point of the line of questioning and asks the same two questions, combined with context added, for an open ended response. All Beckerman needs to do at this point is explain his yes, making note to the Beijing ownership, and explain his no, emphasizing the US access control. It's straightforward. Beckerman, from what we have, technically wouldn't be lying answering that way. If Cruz had a gotcha question, we didn't get to it. If anything, he was probably hoping to get to the explanations because he had questions lined up for follow up.
