Ted DiBiase is correct The Iron Shiek was briefly one of I am sure at least a dozen or so personal bodyguards for the Sha of Iran. I think he defected to the US because he personally believed that The Sha had his idol executed and Iron Shiek being the #2 Ranked Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler felt that it only was a matter of time before the Sha wanted him dead.

There is a video on here Gordon solie was interviewing a manager, don't recall who, but they showed pictures of sheik bodyguarding the shah of Iran and his wife. Sheik was legit as they come.
