Simply the best. His persona is infectious. Gone too soon.

That gave me such a genuine heartfelt chuckle. Just brilliant. His little laugh at the end of a sentence and his deep baritone speech is fondly remembered. Very talented and missed for his joyful and mischievous ways. 😊

Ted Knight started at my former news station, NBC10 WJAR hosting a cartoon show in the 1950s. My original news director had his photo (from his early days) hanging up in her office. Ted did puppetry and magic tricks. I do cherrish the days I worked at this station, good days AND bad days! I had only been working for a few months when 9/11 occurred.

During the interview he speaks about handing out portraits that would age. This would become inserted into one of the episodes of "Too Close for Comfort" in which Ted's character is haunted by an aging portrait of himself.

What a great talented man. He never realized this but after he made Caddyshack, he became immortal for generations to come, along with Chevy, Rodney and Bill Murray. All great comics in a really funny, zany cult movie.

Night Owl So true. He died before having the opportunity to see just how immortal his “Judge Smails” would become. Here’s the guy who created the legendary Ted Baxter in the 70’s, only to go on and create one of the most memorable characters in one of the greatest cult classics of the 80’s/all time... so talented, so brilliant. Not to mention he had a very storied dramatic television career in the late 50’s and 60’s with hundreds of appearances on some of the classics of the day before landing on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970. Yeah, I love Ted Knight.😍

liz326522 It’s amazing Liz how some actors and actresses can create such a beloved character and at the height of their career, pass on and leave us. That movie, Caddyshack, when it came out, was zany & funny. People loved it but it became immortal when the 80’s past on. Especially with people who, during the 80’s, they were in their 20’s like me and somehow that became my era. I briefly worked at the Boca Raton Hotel & Club for 2 years back in the 80’s. During every orientation to new employees, the HR lady would take us out to the Boca Raton Hotel golf course, which was right on the hotel property. The HR lady told us, this was where they filmed some of the scenes of Caddyshack. Not all the golf scenes were filmed there but Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney and Ted were staying at the hotel while they were filming there. I was told the staff had a blast while those guys were there. Those were some great times and I was kinda proud the movie was made were I worked. I would of loved being there while those guys were filming. You get 4 zany comedians in one place, playing off each other, God, can you imagine, the outtakes were probably funnier than the actual movie!

He says "I'm going to do a film in Florida" and I was wondering if that was Caddyshack. I don't know when it was filmed, or this for that matter.

We see so little of Ted as himself. For almost everyone he will always be Ted Baxter. He was utterly brilliant portraying a character who had virtually no admirable traits in a way that still made him hilarious and entertaining. That's the most difficult thing for an actor to do, and Ted did it perfectly.

Devotee of George Smiley Ted Knight is not Ted Baxter though, a sometimes unfortunate misunderstanding of his name “Ted” being used for his character in The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Here’s a question that came to mind. I’d ask Ted in an interview for what stands out to him in the two characters: Ted Baxter and Henry Rush. In each of them what does he think define them as people?

I read his wife passed away around 2005. They were married 47 years with 3 kids, sweet. Unheard of in Hollywood to be married that long. I’ve read a lot about Ted, he was a neat guy.
