Rebecca was trying to destroy the team to hurt Rupert. She wasn’t targeting Ted. Nate targeted Ted, not the team.

@@gi8228 Nate sees Ted as the one who hurts him. Rebecca didn't really see Ted as much besides a clown. Nate sees Ted as a an amazing, great, god-like , saving, loving father figure who rose him up from terrible fate, and now in season 2 laughs in Nate's face when Nate suggests he'll talk to Isaac. Of course, Nate is confusing Ted and his own neglectful mean father on an emotional IeveI. And his pain doesn't excuse his actions. I'm just explaining why this is personal. Rebecca's problem was she couldn't see people as real persons through her pain. Nate is kind of in an opposite situation. He's making personal what's not personal.

@J N What I honestly never understood is what took so long for him to buy another suit. This is nearly a year after he got promoted. He should have known that a not dark suit wouldn't have been great for a funeral. Yes, Ted shouldn't have laughed when Nate offered to talk to Isaac, but Roy was his immediate predecessor as team captain, which meant that he understood what he was going through more than anyone. Ultimately, what I noticed before the heel turn was that he was always a kiss-up/kick-down character. We first see him yelling at our hero before going into the Hugh Grant routine the instant he realizes who they are.

@J N Except there is a pattern with who Nate lashes out at. It is _always_ someone he perceives to be weaker than he is, except for the time when he thinks he got fired. His weird bullying of Colin is because he knows that he couldn't get away with doing so to Jamie or Dani. Player power is still a thing in this universe. And how has he not had the occasion? He doesn't strictly wear team warm-up gear on the sidelines. Often, he wears a shirt and a tie. Yes, Keeley adjusting his tie could definitely be infantilizing, but in all honesty a lot of his schtick early on is prone to make people look at him like a perpetual victim. In an environment like that, especially when people can see you've got a thin skin, letting them know the suit remarks bother you tend to lead to greater teasing.

@J N I'm not blaming the victim at all. Some people clearly have a defense mechanism, and for Nate, that defense mechanism is to be timid. And do you know who agrees with me about many of these examples? None other than Nick Mohammed. He actually listed yelling at Ted and Beard as an example of a clue to the true character within.
