13:25 The reason she can confess after this is because she saw the flaw in her plan. She started this intending to hurt Rupert worse than she'd ever been hurt *by* him. When he drops this little bomb, she realizes it's impossible. She can never be on his level of evilness, and doesn't want to be.

It’s a great moment. A lot of us did the same. It’s also great writing. Soooo many tv shows would have used that as the plot point for season two - drag it out. This show. Nope. Adulting

I've described this show as being "therapeutic", as it still has all the obstacles you expect in a drama/comedy, but they take so many of the social norms/tropes we inhabit and turn them upside down. Like this moment - yeah, that did not go the way I expected. The way the characters approach everything from forgiveness to immigration, from divorce to grief. That moment between Ted & Rebecca is when I ended up binging the show, having realized it was something different.

Hannah Waddingham absolutely deserved the Emmy she won. This episode, she delivers not only INCREDIBLE pathos and depth of emotion, but also some of the funniest moments Rebecca's had yet. When Ted asks if she's okay and she says "Me? I'm brilliant! Top of the Pops! Binka-dink-dink-dinkity-dink" with a little impromptu hand dance, it made me laugh so hard I had to pause because i was missing everything they said after that.

thank you Nikki!! i’ve watched a few people/groups react to this episode and you’re one of the only people i’ve seen really REACT to the devastating realization that Rupert denied Rebecca the chance of having children, i just haven’t seen other people really grasp how absolutely earth shattering it is. Nikki, your “that’s not FAIR” reaction really encapsulates how i feel about this scene every time i see it, thank you guys for watching this amazing series!

I eagerly wait for this episode every time someone starts reacting to Ted Lasso. Just that closeup on Rebecca’s face after Rupert hurts her, yet again - it breaks my heart every time. It doesn’t excuse her behavior, but we as the audience understand her pain all the more & why she was so hell bent on her plan. But the difference between her & Rupert is that she ultimately is a good person, and realizes that she can’t keep hurting people like Rupert has done to her. Such an amazing performance.

One of my fave bits of Lasso trivia is that when Anthony Head (Rupert) and Hannah were shooting that scene, they finished with his coverage and he was released for the day but he stuck around while they reset for Hannah’s closeup so he could deliver those lines to her off-camera and get her “back in the moment”. Many actors would not have done that, but by all accounts he is a top bloke IRL even tho he’s playing SUCH an evil cad here.

The confession scene is a wonderful example of the subtlety of great acting. It's being driven by this powerful confession by a tearing Rebecca delivered by the formidable Hannah Waddingham. But that performance is anchored by Jason Sudeikis. It would have been... almost cheap of the effervescent Ted just blindly accepted the apology in a display of saccharine positivity. But by this point in the show, we know that's not Ted. Ted's face changes. You see hurt. Betrayal. Anger. And then the understanding that makes Ted genuine, not saccharine. That wash of emotion is what gives that moment of understanding, redemption, and forgiveness real gravitas.

Both of Rebecca’s apologies are so well-done. We have all of the sorrow and regret with Ted, then we finally get to see the long friendship between her and Higgins when she said “I'm sorry” to him.

Fair but she never told the team or Jamie what she did. She tried to destroy their careers as well and it was cowardly not to tell them. Ted doesn't get to forgive her on thier behalf that was their decision to make.

I love Ted's forgiving Rebecca right away because you can see in the scene that he paused to think it over before doing it. I'm glad they didn't make it so the "nice" character just shallowly forgave without any real consideration because so often in media "nice" goes hand-in-hand with "dumb" but Ted (and Keeley too) are both examples of really nice, sweet people who are also intelligent and good at what they do.

WOOF WOOF! Episodes 8 and 9 are 2 of my favorite episodes in the whole series. No teasing us or repeated close encounters to build suspense, just straight up Ted hustling Rupert to defend Rebcca and then a direct apology for what Rebecca had done this whole season. Talking like adults with no tip toeing or half truths. I love this show so much!

“Brunette Oscar the Grouch” is one of my favorite descriptions of Roy, since Brett Goldstein is totally obsessed with the Muppets in real life. He calls being on Sesame Street one of the best days of his life. If you can track down the episode on Max, it’s season 53, ep 11. It has no spoilers for season 2 and a number of very cute references. Also, I read in another page that Dani is singing the title song in Spanish. My Spanish wasn’t good enough to pick up on that. If you look at Hannah’s humor in her interviews, Rebecca’s procrastinating is basically Hannah being straight up her silly self. Hannah has also talked about drawing from her own infertility struggles and wanting to put that into Rebecca. They accepted her input for the character. It’s so gross that Rupert is basically having a kid to spite her. Poor kid. Jeremy Swift also plays the bass in real life.

When it comes to a person being angry when we confess a wrongdoing: culturally we often assume that anger over a wrong is an indication of how much a person cares about what was wounded (be it a person, relationship, etc). So if they are not angry, it can feel like they are failing to appreciate what we are apologizing for and the effort/care we're attempting to communicate by apologizing. It's certainly possible for this to happen, sometimes people just aren't that bothered. But it's important to remember that anger isn't the only form of expressing care or value. Ted is a fabulous example of a person whose appreciation for you and what led you to err is his genuine response. It's not that he doesn't appreciate the extent of the wrong or her apology, it's that he actually really does appreciate those things AND what led her there in the first place. It's beautiful. Sometimes we can want a person to get angry or be mad at us in some way after apologizing. But if that's not how they naturally feel and their forgiveness is genuine, then our desire for that anger is more about ourselves than them or making things right. It's because we struggle to forgive ourselves or understand how things can be okay without a reaction of anger. We need it to help forgive ourselves. If that's the case, then we should work to better trust that anger isn't necessary for forgiveness -- not demand they be angry/put on feelings they don't genuinely feel. Either way, if a person isn't angry and can genuinely forgive us it's especially necessary that you offer that sincerely. If you do it just 'to be the bigger person' or because you feel like it's what you should do, that's not fair to the person apologizing. It'll make it hard for them to trust you in the future when you say how you feel about things. TL;DR reactions like Ted's are totally possible, a beautiful thing to aspire to, and yet it's okay if we aren't there yet. =)

I hope no one spoils the "British owl" joke for you - this show knows what it's doing. I love that Rebecca went to confess to Ted after Rupert came and emotionally destroyed her yet again - she realized that what she was doing wouldn't change anything when it came to him. She saw how evil causing emotional pain on purpose looked (finally) and what kind of person it was making her be, and that it was fruitless. As corny as it is, in order to heal you have to let some things go.

Whenever the show builds connection between Rebecca and the audience, the show then shows her getting hit by something negative from her fallout from the divorce. Whether it's Rupert being a rick, or the press deciding to whack her. The trauma keeps getting revisited upon her when shes just beginning yo dig herself out of it. Thats why it's such a triumph for her to go confess and ask for Ted's forgiveness, right on the heels of Rupert being the ultimate ass to her and hurting her ao deeply.

I love you guys. :) If you rewatch the previous episodes, you'll notice that every single time Rebecca does something sh*tty, it's immediately after Rupert (or the Press on Rupert's behalf) does something incredibly hurtful to her. And this is crucial, because her plan -- "I will ruin the team to hurt Rupert" -- actually makes no sense. Rupert is cold and entirely selfish, and he doesn't (I think) really love anything, including the team; ruining the team *won't* hurt him. But Rebecca has no way of hitting Rupert back, so she lashes out at what she *can* hurt -- Higgins, Ted, Jamie, the team. The big change comes in this episode. In this episode, her response to Rupert's doing the most awful thing yet ("I ruined your life for nothing, and I'm enjoying telling you about it") is *not* to lash out again; it's to come clean. Because an entire season of daily Ted Lasso has rubbed off on her, and some part of her now understands that she can actually get respect and affection and support, and that she deserves it -- but only if she lives with integrity.

Commenting this before I watch your reaction: kind of going off of what you said in regards to Rebecca how it's like she takes one step forward and then two steps back, when I first watched this season, there were times where I forgot she was still trying to sabotage Ted and the team. Ted or Keeley or whomever, would be there for Rebecca in a way she wasn't used to, and then something would happen and, BAM she would go back to her scheming. It makes this show very interesting! Editing now to add: I think Rebecca probably expected Ted to be mad and not forgive her because it's likely that's how it was with Rupert. If she ever did anything to upset him, I'm sure he would get mad and expect and apology from her, but that was it. I'd really expect her to think that especially as towards the end, she really had no friends. Sassy wasn't in her life, as far as we know, she didn't have other friends, and her relationship with her parents...I don't want to give anything away, but we learn about that in season 2. Anyway, love your reactions and analyses as always! Ps. A League of Their Own!

For those of us who are long-time 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' fans, the appearance of Anthony Stewart Head (Rupert) is always great. We know how subtke and versatile his acting range is. However, the characters he played there and here are worlds apart - Rupert Giles (a coincidence) was a true father figure, stern when necessary, loving, empathetic, smart and funny too. Hurting people like THIS Rupert does would be unthinkable for him - it's like watching the Bizarro World version of Giles.

15:05 if only it was that simple. Jamie on contract is a City player and most likely Richmond got him on loan in August begining of the season. You can only buy or loan players in The begging or mid season in the January transfer window peorid. This being last game is most likely in april or june. City always have a option to recall a player if they deem thier loan isnt beneficial or they want the player back. So sadly there is no way for Richmond to get jamie back intime for the final match

I only caught this maybe the 2nd or third time I watched this show, but when Ted signs his divorce papers, he does so with his left hand. Not a huge thing, but when I watched that episode on repeat I remember thinking: "Oh yeah, he's left handed" And when Danny Rojas comes in when Roy is in the ice he starts singing the "Ted Lasso" Theme in Spanish. It cuts out just before the "Yaaaaaa!"

Steven and I sound like exactly the same person. Curious to see him take the test from the Strenghsfinder 2.0 test by Tim Roth and what his top 5 will be. Wonder if he gets Harmony and Restorative as some of his top 5 strengths

I’m an INFP and also a Pisces. We’re the emotional weirdos of the Zodiac. I hold grudges way too long. I would rather not, but I do. I’m trying to change that. I also once tested in the 98th percentile for my age in memory. And from everything I’ve read, we’re known for our emotions. It’s 2 fish swimming in opposite directions. I’m loyal as hell too.
