Great conversation! I've been in a discussion on one of your other videos about where I concentrate when I'm skiing vs the other person's opinion. My husband has always told me he feels it in his feet, he is an expert skier, we do not cross the line of instruction from a spouse. The other person feels it in his upper body and shoulder. With the help of Tom and Deb Armstrong's videos I've been really focusing on my feet and pelvis area for the last couple of years, a game changer reinforced by Ted's comments today. Also, flat light is my kryptonite, I'm going to find some new Shred goggles. Thanks to both of you!

Tom could you comment on what Ted and you mean by 'Lock the hip in?" When he said that in reference to the one ski skiing drill the image in my mind was of hip dumping which seems to me to be about locking the hip in but you guys clearly mean something different.

Are you already at an advanced carving level? If not, it will frankly be hard to describe. Basically it involves a number of slight position focuses which all together combine to put your hips in a position to stack over you loaded leg. If you are not yet on high edge angles, it really wont work. 1. Rotate your pelvic bone forward. You stick you glutes out slightly, and arch your lower back a little more. This has a very subtle effect of shifting muscle load to your glutes. This takes load off your quads, and makes you stronger overall. One ski skiing will quickly teach you this, because once you tilt your pelvic bone and load your glutes, you will be stronger, and one ski skiing will be easier 2. Slight counter in your hips at the loaded phase of your turn. The best way I can describe the degree of counter is that your shoulders and hips are square to your DOWNHILL ski tip. 3. Hips level. Watch Mikaela's "hip hike GS" video. When you do all these things, it puts you in a really strong, stacked and stable position to resist the loads on your outside ski. You will feel that your Gluteus medius are loaded up.
