It’s especially great when things like this work on both and audience and the people watching the video.

It is worrying because we saw it as fun on this video and we won't link it to real life. BUT, sane, ordinary careful people get conned and burgled and we have little sympathy because 'they should have known better.' This video explains how that can happen and that is shocking. .The con artist and confidence tricksters learn this skill as do many others for whom it is anything but fun.

His sleight of hand is amazing though. Super jealous of how fluid his palming is as well, looks incredibly natural and the transitions are sooooo smooth. I did spot the double chip trick, but even on rewind I couldn't catch the first switch. It wasn't until the second switch I realised there were two chips: 5:45 takes out second chip, 5:52 places second chip on shoulder while Joe still has chip #1 in hand, at 5:52 can clearly see there are two chips: one on his shoulder and one in hand. Still very impressed by the first sleight of hand, insanely well executed. Oh, shirt switch was done when he handed the phone over when walking back to the stage. Every pause and movement is deliberate, though we sum it up to being human (taking pauses etc) but it's actually all intentional. Honestly, an amazing act. Much respect for this guy! And once again; amazing sleight of hand. This guy needs to go on Penn and Teller.

@joepublic40822 жыл бұрын
Yeah, see just like in the Jurassic Park monologue about how a T Rex's eyes work on movement our eyes also work in the same way, that is why close up magic works. I know this because I am an exponent of close up card magic & the theory, relevant to this discussion, goes.., you cover a small move with a larger movement. There is a little more to it than just that but we magicians don't reveal all our tricks do we... I can say however that I do a 3 part routine in which there is a *small* set up beforehand & the routine takes about 25 minutes to preform so 25 minutes ahead of time, at least, I am ahead of the audience. The set up makes the ending of part 3 seem mind blowing to the point of "burn the witch" which was exactly the intention. I also leave a long gap of 5+ minutes between having done the sleight & sneaky bit for part 1 & revealing it because that causes the spectator to ignore what otherwise *might* rouse their suspicion. Time lapse however causes *everybody* to have long ago forgotten what maybe a bit sus so that the first reveal has a big impact too. 😃😁😉

I hear a lot of people saying that his trick with the poker chips is debunked because he had 2 poker chips. But remember, misdirection and pick-pocketing is not supposed to be video taped for play-back. If he met you on the street, he would take every damn thing you have including your underwear without you knowing it.
@stxgod7 жыл бұрын
But he did have 2 chips but you are right you can't rewind real life
@Dang3rMouSe7 жыл бұрын
Yup, & he's also doing a take on a very old trick for pickpockets. When performing slight of hand or card tricks for the person it doesn't even matter if the trick fails as long as he focuses the person's & anyone else's attention to it. The real trick is that all the person's valuables are being lifted while doing it. Also, when working in teams (which is far more common) by performing tricks he draws a crowd that bunches up together. This gives easy opportunity for the rest of the team to move through the crowd & start working as well. This can bring in a good haul in a short period. Be careful, ecspecially in some European countries cause this is still in practice although your far more likely to get pickpocketed on subways, trains, buses, bars... really any where ppl bunch up.
@TheVeemon2 ай бұрын
@@stxgod well that's the point there, the poker chips were used to make you lose your attention and focus on them chips. knowing the trick will make you more distracted and easier to rob because instead of focusing on 1 chip you are now focusing on 2 chips

POWERGLOVE KilleDX well, yeah, but the how of it wasn’t the point. The point was that most of us (me definitely included) didn’t even notice his wardrobe changed until after he pointed it out at the end, and it was a obvious change too. Completely different color shirt, no tie, and completely untucked and none of it registered to me because the information wasn’t important enough for my brain (Frank) to note while he was bombarding us constantly to keep our focus on what he was doing and not what he looked like.

@@KingNefiiria But it is the fact that no one noticed. Apollo's entire presentation was about how people are able to control one's perception by misdirection. He proved his theory true by changing his shirt and tie (regardless of how and when he did it) and then needing to point it out after an audience of people were watching him perform for a solid 3-5 minutes with the changed attire and not even realizing that it was changed
@KingNefiiria4 жыл бұрын
@@qwiz1787 Aye, I agree, but audiences like these tend to stay quiet until the appropriate times. 4:33 he's still wearing the purple shirt, the tie, and the black vest. Then at exactly 4:38 you see him touch his tie. I assume this dark little bit before he steps back onto the stage is where he removes the clothes he was wearing because the first time we see his grey flannel is just barely at 4:46 when a little bit of the collar peaks out from the coat while he's talking to the guy. I've lightly followed Apollo Robbins for a while now and everytime I see his tricks I'm amazed at how skilled he is at directing the attention of his audience.

If you look closely, at 5:44, he puts his hand in his pocket to get a second chip. Which he then uses to place on the volunteer’s shoulder, he then conceals the first chip within his hand using “sleight of hand”. Without a second chip, it would be impossible to put it on the volunteer’s shoulder since his left hand(the hand with the chip) never makes contact with his right hand(the hand he uses to put the chips on the shoulder.
