I am just finishing your book, "From the streets to the Ring," and I love it!! I'm 50 years old and box at a gym with young guys in their mid to late 20's. All these videos that you upload, the book I am reading, are really sinking in my head. Your a ton of knowledge and I appreciate it very much. Growing up in an all Italian area of Brooklyn in the 70's, I can relate to the things that I witnessed to some of the things you mentioned in your book. Thank you Teddy !! Haply new year !!!!!

On the far side of adversity lays a prize that can never be won by quitting. At the least, that gift will be success. Achieve enough success and it can amount to greatness. AWESOME MESSAGE!

I'll say something controversial here. I believe quitters in boxing are underrated and maybe we should have more quitters especially the fighters who are not polished and take a beating. What's the point in not quitting if you are getting beat up round after round and you are not fighting for a championship yet. If you you are at a high level in boxing obviously quitting is bad but then again some of the best boxers have quit. There are different ways to quit also like literally saying no more, faking an injury or saying you can't go anymore while you actually can. Vitaly Klitscko quit against Chris Byrd, Roberto Duran quit against SRL. I thought Bernard Hopkins has quit a number of tines by fighting dirty or faking an injury like in the Dawaon fight. I felt Calum Smith quit by playing it safe against Canelo and taking a lesser beating against Canelo. Cotto quit against Margarito. Eric Morales quit against Pacman. Barrera kinda quit against Junior Jones. Sonny Liston probably quit against Ali and George Foreman could've got up against Ali in Zaire. Mike Tyson has quit a couple of times. I can go on and on but the point is you can quit many different ways and developping fighters who are receiving a beating should quit more often to preserve themselves and continue to develop. It's hard for one to develop when they are getting damaged physically and mentally. At the end of the day trainers and refs a lot of times have shown to be incompetent as when to stop a fight so the fighters have to take it upon themselves and say he is the better man and Im not at that level yet. Let me live another day, lear another day and come back to test my skills again.

You are wise. Many accumulate knowledge, few ever master what they've learned. I agree it's possible to motivate athletes cruelly. Cruelty to self and othersis no good. Top notch in the ring, ok. But during development people have to be given the room TO FAIL. There has to be a safe place to do that. If you have a trainer that's mentally abusive, you have a shutty trainer, period. They're compensating for their own laziness if they go there. You should enjoy your path, not despise it. Not be ruined by it. Otherwise, wtf is the point in walking it? And really good motivators have to be ethical about it or they'll talk people into jumping off buildings. 😂 At the end of the day, it's the fighter who feels their body. If your can't talk about the truth of where your body is at for fear your trainer will disrespect you, fire the prick and get somebody who understands there's a dependency in the sport for fighter/trainer and a poor trainer will use negative reinforcement (continual put downs or insults) every time to make up for their own incompetence so watch out for that type of personality in a coach because they'll kill your joy for what you do and suck so much positive mental energy from you while they beat you up that just wakingup to train with them will start to feel like court ordered punishment of some kind. Most athletes are going to be going above and beyond to get themselves any edge they can but if they have a lazy coach to deal with too, they might as well hang it up. They will waste time in your development you can't get back so if it's competition the personis looking for, just shopping arpund till they can find a high caliber coach might be the best thing they can do for themselves. And no pro is going to destroy your zeal, they're going to boost it by improving your knowledge, skills, and abilities so you can perform just past your best when you really need to, and win. Sometimes it's just half an inch on the target that will decide the bout in your favor. 😁
