For my 21st birthday I went bar hopping in NYC with my buddies. This came on the stereo while I was at the bar getting another round, and I started singing along. A large black guy, and this is coming from a man who stands 6 foot 5, turned to me and said "I can't believe I'm hearing a white boy belt out Teddy goddamn Pendergrass!" Long story short, we strike up a conversation about music, he buys me a birthday drink, and as a thank you, I help him serenade his wife in the bar with this song. I like to think I got that man laid that night... Or rather, ol' Teddy did.
