I do not recommend that people use Adntro. First, you just don't get more than what you've already paid for at say 23andMe, secondly their "origins" stuff perpetuate the false beliefs so common in the "ethnicity" calculator business, and thirdly they don't offer the cousin connections one may get at Ancestry for MyHeritage. It is also extremely misleading to say one can determine COVIC susceptibility from these kinds of test.

We have an old family story that my great, great grandfather was a gardener for the estate next to Oyster Bay. He was tending to shrubbery on the border of the properties when Teddy Roosevelt came riding over the hedge on horseback, knocking my ancestor down. Teddy Roosevelt helped him up and apologized. That year, my great, great grandfather received a Christmas card and a $5 bill from Teddy Roosevelt

My grandma was a seamstress in NYC in the 1930s who tailored clothes for Eleanor Roosevelt. She told me years ago that when Eleanor would come in for fittings she had holes in her undergarments! Maybe this was a Great Depression thing? Anyway, my grandma helped sew one of Eleanor’s Inaugural ball gowns. We saw it on display in the Smithsonian many decades later.

Was her name Sally Milgram who with her husband Charles owned Milgram’s on 57th Street? She designed a lot of Elenor Roosevelt’s clothing. My grandfather was a furrier who owned his own business making his way by providing “piece work” to different clothing manufacturers and designers by making fur accents such as cuffs and lapels for overcoats and some were worn by Mrs Roosevelt.

The Roosevelts (both oyster bay and hyde park branches) actually took nepotism seriously in the late 1800's. They were told that the were better than common people. They were told their wealth gave the opportunities that most didn't have, such as education and connections that nobody else could dream of. They were taught this was a responsibility and they were to better themselves so they could better all of society. Which is a breath of fresh air compared to today's aristocratic families who only seem interested in making their portfolios larger.

Fun Fact: Eustachius De Lannoy a member of Delano family and related to FDR was a Dutch naval officer, was the captain in Battle of Colachel when the Dutch East India company invaded Kingdom of Travancore in south India. But the Dutch lost the war and he was captured alive by the Travancore king. But the King didn't execute him for his military knowledge, instead offered him to work as his own military officer. He famously converted St. Devasahayam Pillai to Catholicism ( Delanoys were Catholics first, before converting to Protestantism later) . This wasn't encouraged in Travancore kingdom, since higher caste Hindus were prohibited there to convert to Christianity. St. Devasahayam Pillai was martyred after getting tortured and he recently got the title of Saint from the Catholic Church in 2022. De Lannoy's grave is in India and he is respected among the south Indian Christians.

Speaking of Delano/de Lannoy, the Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg was born Countess Stephanie de Lannoy and hails from an old Belgian noble family. A few years ago, there was documentary in French about Grand Duchess Charlotte. The documentary talked about how the grand ducal family lived in the US and met FDR during the war. The documentary interviewed HGD Stephanie, and she pointed out that FDR's middle name might have originated from "de Lannoy."

12:45, the story of Teddy Jr and D-Day is pretty crazy. He had a heart issue (which will kill him later than year) but he was so eager to be part of the first wave that he basically overwhelmed his superiors with request until they gave in. He landed on Utah beach (the only father-son duo to land on D-day as his son also landed in Omaha) and there was this 56 yo man with both a heart issue and arthritis walking around with a cane on one hand and a pistol on the other. Realizing he landed off course, he personally scouted the area and proceeded to rally the troops to attack from the landing site. Omar Bradley called his actions that day as one of the heroic acts of WW2

Theodore Roosevelt was also well-known by his initials, "T.R.", in his day, and was the very first American president for whom that was true. The nickname "Teddy" was given to him by the press (news media) and while he tolerated it with a smile in public (like any good politician would) he actually loathed it. Within his family his childhood nickname was "Teedie" and in adult life his favorite thing to be called was, "Colonel", after his Rough Riders experience. (Apparently, he preferred this even to "Mr. President"; if you could meet him today you could probably get on his good side fastest by addressing him as "Colonel".) FDR, on the other hand, I would not dare address as anything other than Mister President.

No Way. FDR had Guillen Barrhe Syndrome? That's crazy. My brother became very poorly around 10 years ago and ended up with GBS as a side affect to a chest infection. He is mostly recovered now but he still has some lasting side affects like aching in his leg, a slight weakness in one of his hands and he needs flu shots every year and was classed as immunocompromised during COVID so was able to get vaccinated early cus GBS affects the immune system. The condition is basically where the immune system starts attacking the nerve endings in your arms and legs and is usually a result of a milder viral infection in my brothers case a mild chest infection. I have never seen reports of a famous person or like well known historical figure with GBS and my brother has a lot of interest in like US culture and US presidents (we are British) so it is really interesting that one of the most famous and beloved presidents had the same illness he did.

Its great to see so many US Presidents are basically distant cousins of one another, also the fact that Roosevelt family produced so many successful people as somebody in the comment section said 'Presidents, actors, athletes, inventors, artists, writers, businessmen, politicians, statesmen, soldiers, and everything in between.' Also, its cool that how such a big family tree from all sides of the family is recorded of course due to being wealthy, powerful and influential since so many centuries otherwise it would not be possible. Nice informative clip (as always)! It is interesing to see how some of those older immigrant families are interconnected. I don't want to brag but I will do so anyhow, slightly though: I also have a Delano branch in my ancestry but this branch remained in Europe. A small group of nineteenth century Delano's compiled a book about their ancestry in Europe. The nice thing is that it is plausible that the Delano's are descendants of a fairly large group of European nobles (although some consider this to be not fully proven), mainly from northern France.

@@highpath4776 Those ancestors in the Netherlands are explicitly named "De Lannoy" in ecclesiastical archive material as well, which was already an extant family name in the sixteenth century. Lannoy or Lanno is indeed a place in Northern France but this family-branch is from Tourcoing (so the name doesn't literally mean that the people where directly from Lannoy, it is a family name). There is an extensive doctoral thesis by Alain Desrousseaux from the Université d'Artois that deals with this descent, the connection to the Lannoy-family seems fairly certain but it isn't clear from which branch exactly. Besides archive material other factors as social-economic context, religious development and onomastics also support the claim. The lack of proof isn't that distinct at all, especially compared to other similar claims that are apparently fully accepted, yet based on less material or context!

I have a interesting connection to the Roosevelts. My 2nd great-grandfather (the way I descend from him is from a adopted ancestor” had a paper signed by Teddy Roosevelt, when he was governor he fought as a colonel in some sort of militia I think it said “25 Battalion of New York” or something similar

I live in the northwest of the brazilian state of Mato Grosso, "near" the Roosevelt River, named after Teddy. In the 1910s, he explored Amazon with the famous brazilian Marechal Rondon, an important man who protected indigenous people and built several telegraphic lines.

Franz Timmermanns (PvdA; bzw. SPE) wohl ebenfalls nicht! Aber wer dann? War die Republik der Niederlande eine Demokratie?
