The master control calendar chrono is pretty much perfect in my opinion. I really like the balance of the dial. I was almost positive that a Reverso would be my next watch but this is for sure in the running.

The Calendar Chronograph is stunning! From my perspective, it is the perfect one-watch assemblage that would warrant having no other watch at all. A definite grail for me.

It was my grail. I've owned it for a few months now... I can hardly wear anything else. Do I want new watches? Yes, of course, but this is the one I pick up, or keep on my wrist, always. It kinda killed my watch game. If you have a grail, don't buy it! JK of course.

@ruggq i was able to buy only because I found it NOS for less then 9k (never seen before or since). For MSRP, I can't really say. The finish is not the best, but hardly bad, just not at the level of a three handed Moser for similar money. Though better than a Daytona. Of course, it's personal preference. I'm not crazy about the premier line, the B01 doesn't feel as good IMO, and I find them to be too big for what I like, certainly bigger than the JLC. The only comparable watch really is Zenith but c'mon, I think there's no peer. So in short, worth it at any price. But I'm certainly biased.

This is the first time I’ve watched a review from Teddy, and I have to say it is one of the best I’ve seen. I’m a big fan of Tim from Watchbox but do find that occasionally he speaks at such breakneck speed that it can be an effort to keep up. Teddy produces a more refined and relaxing review and doesn’t get too bogged down with the minutiae, giving instead a considered opinion on the various attributes of the watch and brand, such as value, relevance and aspiration. I was very pleased to have come across this particular video as I’m seriously considering the chronograph version of the three watches, and to see them compared together was extremely helpful.

Aesthetically beautiful, and incredible engineering. The Master Control Calendar is my personal favorite. I already own a Tag Heuer Carrera chronograph and an Omega SMP 300M chronograph, so I am looking for a more dressy dial with reduced sport influence. The moon phase is such an added bonus - so yeah - the Master Control Calendar hits that sweet spot for me.

Very brave, very smart NOT to jump on the bandwagon of certain popular brands releasing not so impressive watches. You show us every time what really is diffrent and interresting on today’s market. This indeed is a collection of watches meriting our attention. I personally like the date version very much, they bettered this model with a smaller bezel, up to date movement, they however made it a bit less elegant adding a mm. If they made this one 38-39, it would be a 10/10 watch.... I have bought the previous model in black (new from ad), and it is not keeping up time within specs.... though they advertise 1000 hrs testing, they do not mention the specs it should operate within.... very weird because no reference. I am a bit reluctant sending my watch to them for inspection because of stories you read about not so carefull treatment of your watch, getting it back with scratches etc.... Maybe something for a new topic...? How good is afterservice with the big brands? That to me is the other 50% of the brands quality...

Great review Teddy. I'm a big JLC fan and love this series. I do love the date but, yes, I agree a slightly smaller say 38mm would have suited the uncomplicated dressy style. My favourite would be The Calendar. I would have the chrono over a Daytona or a Speedy.

I sold my fathers JLC made in 1950 much to my shame. It was second hand at the time he bought it he paid £25 which was about 5 weeks salary. I have wanted to replace it for many years and have looked at Rolex and Omega along with IWC, but my heart belongs to JLC if I had my choice I would have the master controller date Callander and chronograph. It is simply beautiful and to my uneducated mind puts the rest into the shade.

As much as I would like to add a second JLC (and other Richmond brand pieces) to my collection, it remains impractical where I lived here in Thailand. Since Richmond does not operates its own service center, it out-sourced all of its after-sales responsibility to a local watch boutique Pendulum’s service center, where you get treated like a second class citizen, every time you did not purchase a watch from the boutique itself. I did purchase my first JLC from that boutique and have no issue servicing it, however got into much ordeal tries to service other Richmond group watches purchased eleswhere. At the center, first question was often “This watch was purchase elsewhere?”, for which I always replied “I thought you are Richmond authorized service center am I wrong?!” Then the ordeals continue.. if the issue falls within the remotest manufacture standard, your service will be turn down immediately. If your $10,000 watch’s hand is crooked or running 6 second fast/day, you are sure to be turn-down from Pendulum’s service for “within factory tollerance” excuse. The same can’t be said with other self-operated service center such as Rolex and Swatch Group Thailand, where their center will not stop serving your every whim, no matter how silly small the issue might seem, until you are 100% satisfied. So for me, until Richmond see the importance of keeping its customers satisfied by organizing its self-run service center to treat its customer service issue more seriously, I along with other dissatisfied customers would be more than happy to spend our hard-earn money elsewhere.

I would have to go with the Master Calendar. It seems to have the best balance of the 3 in my opinion. I tend to look to my watch a lot for the date so to have it along the periphery of the dial where it will never be covered by any of the other hands or functions really appeals to me.

Hey Teddy, as always a very good video!When I heard JLC wants to release a new master control in 40mm, I bought the master control in 39mm with the massive gold rotor because I think the 39 mm is more suitable for this watch. However, I don't wear it as a dress watch. I still own a Rolex Submariner Date which I wear as a summer watch, a Rolex Explorer 1 39mm, which I wear as a casual all day watch, a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date (the Coopers watch from Interstellar, which is my first automatic watch and I still proudly wear it). And as a dress watch I go for the JLC Reverso Medium small second. I really appreciate the Master Control Date, it radiates pure understatement, it is more of a mixture of casual and dressy, both work well. I wear the watch with a tshirt, with sneakers, boots, leather jacket, suit shirt, ...It’s more quiet and dressier than the Explorer, but for a real dress watch it is a bit too large for me and I miss the precious metal. It wears more like a 40mm watch, because of the smaller bezel. (I have a wristsize of approx. 16.5 mm). One day I will buy an ALS Saxonia 35mm in rose gold, this will then be my „real“ dress watch, the reverso will still stay in my collection. I can recommend the Master Control 39 mm to anyone looking for a simple and classic gentleman's watch with a lot of style. What you need to know beforehand: if you want to buy the 39mm model, check out the latest models because they already have the new all-gold rotor. And the rotor has a slight hum, which I don't know from my other models but personally that doesn't bother me. I hope I could make the decision easier for some. Greetings from Germany

I haven’t had a hands on experience yet but I feel the colour of the dial and the dauphine hands are very similar and that could cause issues with legibility. Do you agree or am I completely wrong? JLC Master Control Date or a Grand Seiko at a similar price -- which do you choose if you could only choose one? I still lean Grand Seiko, especially if the watch in question has a Spring Drive caliber, but I've never held or worn a Grand Seiko or a JLC, so this is based purely off pictures, reviews, and knowledge of the engineering details of the Spring Drive in particular.

I have my eyes on the new Master Control Date model to try it on and eventually buy it, but here in Munich boutiques still do not have it available to test in person. Final verdict can only be made on a wrist, and with the older 39mm version I was impressed how the watch comfortably wore and how the dial looked simple but beautiful. A for a new model, I am impressed by the 70h power reserve, but I am worried about 40mm size with reduced bezel width, which may leave an impression of the oversized dial for such a dress watch. Finally, on a first glance, I do not like the calf leather light brown strap. I am missing an option for either a black or dark brown crocodile strap. It seems like JLC tried to save a buck or two.

The one thing that drives me nuts about the Chronograph is the running seconds hand. It shouldn't be blue!! They should've made it silver like the date hand, but I guess they valued the symmetry of the dial more than readability. Otherwise a great watch though. I think the MC Date is gonna be my first luxury watch when I graduate next year. Great video!

I dont see many people in Chicago wearing JLC in general so I have a limited perspective but they must not be selling well since the master control sector dial series sold out very quickly. Absolutely beautiful watches by one of the best watchmakers in the world. Considering the prices of PP, AP and VC and others the price ranges for these seems reasonable. Not that I can afford one just yet.

Please do a detailed review of master calender. BTW, is it suitable for smaller wrist size? 14.5cm.

I was looking up some info for the Geographic. The price changes definitely affects the desirability of the watches.

The Calendar Chrono is soo beautiful!! I have an old Master Control Calendar and love the 37mm but seeing this i might need to upgrade haha
