At this point, anyone even remotely associated with watch enthusiasm knows the Rolex Submariner is one of the hardest watches to actually buy in the world. So what I wanted to do in this video was to share some of top alternatives to the Rolex Submariner out there on the market in 2022.

I agree with saving up for the Sub if that is what you ultimately want. I've wanted once since I was a kid and I saved for a few years before buying one. The Orient dive watches are quite nice; I was blown away by the quality relative to the price. I am bummed Seiko stopped the SKX-007. On an Uncle Seiko Jubilee, it's such a nice package. I also agree with you about the Superocean not getting enough love. That was my first expensive watch and they are really well made, although a bit on the thicker side of things. I think part of it might be their use of ETA movements, although Breitling ETA movements are really exceptional workhorses.

Breitling Superocean 44 was my first luxury watch purchase. I like the weight of it, and the bracelet is really comfortable. Its got a funky set of numerals which I like as well. I recommend it, but I feel in comparison to a Sub there is closer models. I think its got enough merit and cache brand wise to stand on its own rather than be a compromise to a sub.

I have a few dive watches and I think my next one will be a Citizen Promaster. After wearing automatic watches that need to be set every time I dont wear them forces few days and quartz opening them to change a battery now putting the WR into question. An Eco Drive seems absolutely perfect for a dive watch (one that will actually see time under water).

Have to agree the Mido Ocean Star is a great watch for the money. I have the same one you had shown in the video. It's my daily driver and the bracelet is just perfect for a watch at this price point. No push pins on this watch has quality screw link adjustments and just a feel the watch should cost more. I love the day/date and really, I would say it's more of a Seamaster Alternative.

I prefer my Omega SMP 300m over the Seamaster Heritage. I also own a BB58 & Planet Ocean. I love them all & prefer them over a traditional Submariner. I know it’s an iconic piece, but it’s just way too vanilla for my taste. The only Sub I’d buy today is a Cermit. Excellent video Teddy!

I have the Orient. It’s definitely lacking in any wow factor and both the crown and bezel are a little slick and hard to operate. That said, it just works. Size is perfect on a slender wrist. The silicone band is very good. So good I’m thinking of getting an extra one to put on my Turtle… replacing the oversized buckle Seiko strap. I see the Orient as an everyday around the house and outdoor watch. Inexpensive enough to not worry about and yet cool enough to be in the collection. And you can’t beat the price

These watches are nice and all but... what jacket you're wearing Teddy? It caught my eyes more than any the watch in the video.

Teddy you do have an extraordinary way with words which really brings watch collecting to such an intelligent and fun level. Thanks so much! 👍

great vid! i've been a professional videographer for almost 40 years, and these are some of the best closeup images i've ever seen...nice work! one watch (which I purchased a couple years ago) that you didn't include among the less pricey models is the STEINHART OCEAN ONE, a very nice alternative for less than $500.00 thx for the great vid :D
