Teddy I can't thank you enough for the tip on resetting the seconds hand and tenth of a second hand. I have an old Bulova Marine Star that a relative bought for me in the 90's that I wore for over a decade. When I last pulled it out and put a new battery in, I noticed those hands didn't default back to zero, I figured the watch needed repair. It turns out that this trick works for even an older Bulova. I'm thrilled to have those hands working like they should again on this great watch that means so much to me!

Thats watches in general over the last few years I've noticed. Seiko is hiking prices on their same old dusty 4r watches (700 for some plain jane prospex diver when I got my samurai for 500ish maybe 4 years ago.) and my hamilton khaki field which I bought for 500ish aud, now goes for close to if not over a grand. Id flip it for profit if I didnt love it so much. But yeah pretty much all watches have had a price hike in recent years, just seems to be the way of things. Can they make an even smaller Lunar version? - Yes. Bulova would not want to change the internal movement, thus they can't change the radial position of the sub dials. But they could easily change just the case. To do so, they could forego the tachymeter chapter - this would allow reducing the case by 2x2mm. So, the 43 mm case could be reduced to 39 mm. That smaller diameter is widely common by makers, and accepted by most customers. This would greatly widen the customer base.

If they want to make it smaller, Bulova might have to make some hard decisions: - they have to keep the high-frequency quartz movement, resist watch snobs’ demands to make it mechanical - they have to keep the paddle-style chrono pushers and the handset - they may have to consider losing the tachymeter ring in order to shrink the case size - they definitely have to rethink the lug style to get a smaller length

Teddy a good review but some detail points... I've owned both models of the Lunar Pilot, first the blasted case with the date and new logo which I sold when the ref. 96A225 came out with the fully polished case, vintage logo and no date. You imply that this fully polished case is something new, however this fully polished case has been available for several years now, albeit in the 45mm case size. For me, this transformed the watch and I much prefer the polished case. The 3 o'clock sub dial is 1/20th of a second versus a 1/10th of a second as noted by 20 tick marks and the fact that the hand will stop at any of these. Now, I have always wanted this to be in the original 43.5 mm case even though I have 7.7"/19.5cm wrists that are 6.3cm wide and I can easily wear the larger version. What still bothers me is the "ghost" crown position for the no date version and I would rather see this now useless position used to add a quick hour set function. Why? because while this is advertised at + or - 10 seconds per year, I have consistently gotten +4 seconds per year over four years of ownership! 😮

I have had my Lunar Pilot (96B251) for over three years. I am not a small person and have a 7.25” wrist, but the 45mm version has never fit me well and does not get worn very often. I think this new version will be just enough of a size change that it will work for me, but I will be waiting for the price to come down. I have 12 Bulova 262 kHz watches, with all four of the different movements (Precisionist, Precisionist Chrono, Lunar Pilot and Curv) and have found that the accuracy is measurably better than standard quartz movements. The sub-dial is 1/20 second, not 1/10 second. 1/20 (.05) second has been shown to be the practical limit of accuracy for humans activating a pusher.

Very nice and finally wearable too. I hope to see both the colors soon.

I love my normal sized Lunar Pilot (well, wish it was thinner, but I can deal). Only wish they made a non-chrono version of it. smaller, keep the date complication, and make the main second hand sweeping.

@@m4xQ yeah, a normal watch. I love the finish and the details on the face and the hands and the movement etc.

My white dial version arrived yesterday and it's perfect, the difference in dimensions between the new and prior versions makes it wear much easier. I also own the 50th anniversary black/gold version but I believe this will get more wrist time.

How does the smaller steel version compare with the larger titanium version in weight and comfort?
@A_man_not_your_man Жыл бұрын
@@dennissmith8947 The titanium version is lighter but has more wrist presence due to the two tone metals and lug to lug, the white dial steel version is more under the radar if that's your preference. I honestly forget I have the titanium version on, need more time with the white dial before I make that comparison.

@@A_man_not_your_man May I ask what’s your wrist size and any advices to consider prior to purchasing? Thank you

Thanks for the review Teddy!

Excellent review as always! Bulova is such a strange company to me. Their precisionist movement is great but almost all the watches with it are ugly or huge (usually both). When I heard they were releasing a smaller lunar pilot I thought finally Bulova is making a watch that I would like to buy! But no they just trimmed 2mm 😅. Blue and white one looks amazing though.

Why such small watches. Bulova has some great watches but if you prefer smaller size that makes sense
@peterbush1595 Жыл бұрын
Only to be eclipsed by the ugliness of Invicta. Bulova seems to be toning it down though
@maxmeier532 Жыл бұрын
that statement is on point. too big, even the new version that's still 43mm, and others are also to ugly like most if not all the precisionists. the lunar pilot is somewhat nice, dont like the buttons, but it's just too big. that was en vogue like 15 years ago and for at least the past 5 years, people tend to want smaller pieces, even rolex is now selling the explorer in 36mm.

I have the larger 50th anniversary edition and I'm seriously considering the snoopy panda. Those colors are phenomenal

The white one immediately reminded me of the Omega Snoopy. Bulova got winners with these smaller versions.

Bought the Snoopy Bulova and it fits so beautifully on my 19cm Wrist, it also feels like a watch, I felt like the Seiko was not feeling that well, it is a gorgeous watch but honestly it does not "feel" like a watch for that price. Kinda more like a toy. But hey that's just my subjective feeling.

Great job on making it smaller and therefore more wearable. Now, do the right thing and offer it with a mechanical movement and an exhibition case back. Thanks.

I disagree. I think the precisionist is the selling point of this watch.

I just got one, but the date is a must on all my watches.

Great review. Remember too that the original Lunar Pilots could not go between metal and fabric/leather, as the lug holes were different

The best competition for this watch is the Certina DS2 precidrive chronograph. Wears smaller at 41mm and I believe the chronograph measures 1/100th of a second. Awesome value too and still can be found in Jomashop

Just wish they didn’t look so bland

I am ok with the 43 mm size. Apparently the movement in this is so big that they really can't fit it into anything much smaller. Also I like that this is true to the original in terms of size. Might pull the trigger on the blue panda.

Ted, in terms of decades, how many ones is safe to say this movement will last (considering no battery leakage will occur)? I'm in love with this watch, but still suffer about investing this amount in quartz. Thank you and congratulations for your brilliant work

Your videos are amazing teddy. Legitimately one of my favourite channels in general. I’m a physics student attending the university of Victoria (Canada) and I follow many different things. But, your videos are just all around amazing content and even though not all the watches are my favourite, I still watch the videos because your deliverance is spit on. You heavily feed my love for watches. I hope one day I’ll be able to get that new smaller lunar watch in blue. The story behind it also feeds my love for space and is the total package imo. Thank you for your contribution to this passion and continue being you man, you’re doing great.
