Was able to try this same watch on in an AD recently and it's really very beautiful in person. Love the color combination and the case finishing is excellent. It definitely wears much smaller than Hamilton's other 42mm watches due it's case shape, inner offset color chapter ring, and thin bezel as you said. I feel that it looked very much like a 40mm on wrist, so don't let the dimensions turn you away from a fantastic watch! I was actually picking up a Rado Captain cook 42mm Blue/steel and the Pan Europ did wear smaller comparably. Totally agree that this should have a screwdown crown and 100M WR, and a bracelet option!

Respectfully, 50 meters of water resistance equates to roughly 164 feet. How many folks are actually going to be that far under water? It seems like we all need to take a step back and truly think about water resistance as it pertains to non-diving watches. As always, a great presentation, Teddy.
@MrBacchus182 жыл бұрын
50 m covers quick submersion and showering. 100 m is recommended for swimming. It is actually a pretty big difference.
@MrPleers2 жыл бұрын
50 meters waterresist doesn´t mean 50 meters deep. 🤣
@67NewEngland2 жыл бұрын
Its not necessarily a depth rating but a pressure rating that simulates 50 meters. So if you jump into a pool and that impact pressure exceeds that similar to 50 meters your watch is going to leak.
@caramel1092 жыл бұрын
I agree. This isn't meant to be dive watch, it looks and feels more like a motorsport watch, so 50m water resistance is plenty as long as you don't swim in it. Hamilton make two different dive watches (100m and 300m capabilities), which are great for water activities.

I'm just glad they haven't released this in Gulf or Martini Racing Livery colorways. One thing was missing from the video however: I really would have liked to have seen this on the included Rally Strap. Great video Teddy. The Pan Europ Watches are Race drivers watches meant to be used at the track. A nice "sport watch" that isn't a diver. More of us drive rather than dive so i'm not sure why this style isn't more popular. I have the chronograph version and use it to time my road trips because, of course, the clock on the dashboard isn't good enough.

I've got the Seiko SSC667; bought it for the same reason. Grew up watching all the drama and action of auto racing in the '70s and '80s. Love the style, nostalgia & the romance these watches bring. Before I found the SSC667, I was fumbling around looking at all the styles that have been popping up this year: field or pilots watches, Daytona knock-offs, etc. I asked myself what it was that I REALLY wanted and "1970s Race Car Driver" is what popped into my head. Thank goodness there are a few manufacturers bold enough to tap into that narrow band of inspiration. (Side note: If you need 100M or more water resistance in your driving watch, maybe you should reconsider driving as a hobby...lol)

At 50 meters water resistant this a joke for the design language this fosters. Look into Doxa as well. The first helium escape valve watch, and the one used by the badass undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau. There is also Seiko that made the legendary and also film star watch which this design is based off. This is the exact mix of both I just stated. If you're not fooled by the has to be swiss made label bull and are cool with this non original design or the historicity, go for seestern. Doxa really has been dropping the ball and cutting corners for what they have made for ages now. The seestern 300 homage is literally a better watch in many ways. $200 too. Second option is Seiko. Beware the dial allignment. Could possibly be an issue on the lower end market but you will get true inspiration and art and custom work for the same or far far less cash by some miracle of commerce and technical ingenuity/engineering

That's a very nice piece. Lovely tonneau case with pretty much perfect dimensions. I'm so close to loving this...but find the dial to be just a wee bit boring. Maybe a frame around the day/date window would look good. And bummed about the WR. I think any decent watch with dive style bezel should have a WR of at least 150m. Or change the bezel to be a duo time (but still bump that WR up to 100m). And like the chaptering.

Not exactly a "grail," but I've admired this watch, the chronograph version anyway, for about half a century. (OMG am I and is this watch that old???) I have a couple of chronographs but frankly make little use of their unique functions. So when the 3 hand version showed up on the Amazon website for a bit over $800, I ordered one. It arrived a little more than a month ago. Out of the box I set the time to the atomic clock reference and wound it. Four full days later, it was still running and had gained/lost 0 seconds. Wound it and wore it for another four days. Same result. No deviation from the atomic clock reference. Finally after 12 days I found it had gained between 1 and 2 seconds. That's near quartz level accuracy. As for the strap choice. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the stock leather version. The NATO is no doubt an excellent choice but everything I've read/seen suggests it's a very difficult installation. Something I have very little patience for. With that in mind , for the present I'm sticking with the extremely comfortable leather rally strap. Some may see the red/white/blue color scheme as a reference to its US heritage. Others might see it as a reminder of Pan American colors. And still others might see a reminder of the flag of France. Take your choice. In any event , it's gorgeous (imo). Combine its accuracy, the watch's beauty, and its remarkable readability and it's among my favorites.

Because they are trash lol. Shit, even the wack after the quartz crisis brands, also cash grabbing like them and making cheap reproductions of their legendary models. I'm looking at Doxa and throwing mad shade. I was about to buy them but I research and buy what really speaks to me. Turns out, that a homage watch brand took advantage and kicked everyone's ass. It's part of the same producers that make original really really well finished tourbillon dress watches. So went with them in a sick mother of pearl with a real, ridiculously good quality bead of rice bracelet. It's an upgrade in everyway to where I would buy a doxa and rock this instead due to the bad ass dark mother pearl dial and far more functional features on top. Too bad doxa cute corners and rips people off. I never buy homage near identical or direct copies but, since doxa sucks and doesn't care but to take advantage of Hamilton type buyers with over prices bull, i did it without regrets. It holds up to my swiss made 5 grand typical top brand and my microbrands actual fresh design beauties from two different price brackets. I just need a Cartier or Jaeger

@zainshaikh5272 жыл бұрын
There is none if you buy the $100 casio lol, but Cartier is not ripping anyone off or being disingenuous to anyone like the likes of Hamilton and the various other trash brands, post quartz crisis. They were legendary before, but are now just cash grabs and flat unoriginal, cutting corners on tired designs, still over charging for nothing to show. But on the subject of Cartier- they are a jewelery designer and make stunning works of art. Have brilliant patented designs and mechanisms in their clasps even. They are incredible. You don't pay for the movement, you pay for the jewelry. Same as how you don't complain about how Rolex bracelets are so expense when everyone else copies them and ebay sells their copies for $75. They made the fucking design that no one can copy right to this day after decades. Their polish is incredible and the engineering concept and tech is awesome. Plus the Rolex name and logos that are legit. That's all that you pay for. Cartier is ten times that same point
