most of all in this song I love a kind message. being cool according to ateez = being kind, respectful and humble, not a "swagger". this topic is much more revealed in their performance at the kingdom, where they help a schoolboy who is offended by bullies, and teach how to really be cool: they cleaned the floor, they danced with some kids and then with btob and stray kids members... I wish there were more lyrics in the songs like this.

Basically: Ateez's Highschool ("welcome to my class"), they are teaching others THE REAL meaning of be cool/having style (멋) and that is: admire others, stay humble and kind... In the video there were motorcycle, caligraphy and baseball club and they are trying to recruit the new student: Mingi. Yeosang represent peace, they have a battle dance (so fun) and they were bring together at the end by Yeosang (this were explained by the members in their reaction video)

The calligraphy, baseball and biker clubs all think they are the coolest in school and want to recruit the new kid Mingi. Mingi doesn't care about that mess, because he's protected by his morals (the book). Yeosang is the dove of peace watching and waiting. When they try to fight, they realize they have more power when they come together, and finally see each other. They hold a new book: Mot/The Real/Coolness: Revised Edition. The Yeosang of Peace arrives and everyone lives happily ever after. Moral: It's not cool to think you are the coolest and better than other people. Real coolness is humility, kindness and respect. If you pause and look very closely, there are many phrases in the graffiti in English about faith, humility, respect etc.

Koreans cultural equivalent of Japanese Kimino are called hanboks. That's what Hong Joong are wearing. The school is comprised of clubs, calligraphy (HJ & SH), Jocks (San/WY), Cool/Bad boys (Yunho/Jongho). @Marulan v explanation is on point. When they talk about bowing & such, they are referencing the respectful aspects of Korean culture & today's youth moving away from the classical polite/respectful behaviors of their culture. They are serious about paying the proper respect to everyone whether they are famous, family or staff. Staying humble because fame doesn't make them better than others.

This song might not start out as your favorite, but it will grow on you. They did this song as the encore when I saw them in concert and it might have been the most hype song of the whole thing. EVERYBODY was standing up and dancing for this one, and when we all shouted, “Ateez Present!” It was not only deafening but kinda surreal because, how many times I’ve shouted that in my car while listening to this song I can’t count, but this time Ateez was actually present. 🤯

for me personally, this song got me to ateez. i mean, i've already heard deja vu back then, but the real was so refreshing, so hype, and that's why i listened to them more and more. ateez is an only group that makes me so hype as well as skz, i mean at the same level... every song in their discography is different, every title track is not like the previous one. they def deserve more... they are really "the real ones" 😂

FYI: This connects to their Kingdom Mayfly collab, Seonghwa's calligraphy brush is the same one BtoB's Minhyuk carried. Ateez always try to tie everything together whether it be sets, props, choreo, costumes...finding the Easter Egg tie-ins are so fun. The video is based off the cult classic Volcano High.

There are several theories when it comes to the slice of bread, but for me the most logical one is, that he is literally representing a dove, the symbol of peace. He brings peace to the groups fighting each other.
@ViciousValentine

Hongjoong and Seonghwa are wearing hanbok which is Korean traditional clothing. There are also Korean traditional instruments that you are hearing throughout the song. The song's meaning is tied to keeping it real, being humble and kind, having integrity. Rather than the way you look or your clothes, those things are the real style, the real coolness. The bowing 90 degrees is about Korean etiquette and respectful behavior. Ateez are saying these are their principles. The speaking parts where they say this is the style and dance starts now are said in satoori which is various regional dialects/accents (except Jongho which is standard Seoul dialect.) Idols are often encouraged to lose their satoori for the standard dialect so I imagine this was nice to hear for people from those regions. San and Seonghwa especially will revert to satoori sometimes in their content. The bread is a anime trope, a character is running late so grabs a piece of bread on their way out and it hangs from their mouth as they run to school. The MV is a bit based on a Korean movie called Volcano High which was like live action Korean anime (hanguk aeni.)

The real in the concerts are amazing, you could also react to the b-sides do not have mv but they are iconic I highly recommend "to the beat" , "the leaders" , "Horizon" , "Win" or maybe to the songs in Japanese like " don't stop" , "utopía", "Rocky " or "paradigm"

Yay!! This wasn't a fave song but it grew on me and now I'm obsessed with it! I love the message in the lyrics and the video. Ateez are all about humble and kindness and sticking to their morals which you'll see more the more you get to know Ateez:) they never have bad lyrics and many are what they are feeling or their lore, so they are are meaningful. They wanted to bring more of Korean style too like THIS is Korean style, instead of doing more of a poppy mainstream song, so you can actually hear many Korean instruments in the music :) personally, I think the bread stands for peace because Yeosang is peace in this video like how "breaking the bread" stands for peace too. Also, this song is so cool live! They switch up the dance break everytime and everyone is so hyped for it! Excited for your next Ateez reaction❤ please react to Don't stop and the leaders next! To the beat is also amazing!

Thanks for checking this one out. The Real is my 2nd fav Ateez mv even though the song wasn't one tt I immediately liked. It's definitely a song tt is carried by the performance and their Kingdom performance did it for me. This mv I particularly loved bc it took inspiration from a 2000 S.Korean movie, Volcano High, which was one of the first Korean movies I watched years ago. (Some of the cast members r still my favs to watch in kdramas now). Also, the Ateez boys had a lot of fun filming it so tt makes it so enjoyable to watch too. The Real live in concert is 🤌🏻 they nvr do the same dance break/freestyle at the end twice. It's always 2 different members doing their own thing. Thus making each performance unique throughout the tour. And we love to see it!

A lot of people have explained the meaning of this song really well. I think something to keep in mind is the way that Ateez writes their lyrics. It's similar in Thanxx where they say several lines that are supposed to be taken in context of either other people saying the words or words about other people and then the lines right after is the response to those sayings. So the way I take it is that the lyrics in the beginning are more what other people's definitions of cool is, and Ateez's response is that the real definition of cool is determined by if you are being humble and kind. It's important to be whoever you are; it's okay to like sports, or being old fashioned, or be in a motorcycle gang, but if you are not humble and kind, then it's worthless. It's a great reminder to everyone that the world needs more peace and unity and that comes when individual people are humble and kind. That's how I take it at least.

missed the premiere😭 but omg this is such a party song and when i tell you it goes so hard live!! the freestyle dancing is always so cool too so you'll enjoy the live version i'm sure! This is gonna be a long ass comment bc i wanna recommend a lot of stuff so sorry not sorry if ur interested more about the mv, i recommend checking out Form of Therapy's reaction to this mv (and others too), he's a film producer and has a looot of insight on Ateez music videos and it's very interesting to see! Also i wanted to recommend you some of Ateez's individual releases to check out later, since you mentioned wanting to hear more. Unfortunately they don't have as much creative freedom over solo releases as skz (Mingi has complained abt not being allowed to release his own songs before), but there are a lot of covers some members have released. Hongjoong has so many iconic covers from artists like Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Prince. My absolute favourites are his Numb by Linkin Park and Lemon Tree covers. Seonghwa has a few slower covers: Angel Baby by Troye Sivan, At my worst by pink sweat$ and the story never ends by Lauv. These really showcase his vocals soo well but very slow and sad songs. He releases them each year on his birthday as a gift to atiny

@@TeddyGreyOS lol what is the ignorance of it? In a lot of parts in the song they use Satoori accent which for foreigners is not easy to understand, also the Lyrics make more sense in Korean as well as the video is inspired by a Japanese movie and it has a deep meaning. Also all the signs that are written in the MV, I doubt that you can read Korean to see what they say. I know you mostly listen to the song but in Kpop and especially Ateez they put a lot of meaning into their MVs as well as in their music, they are connected. don't think you should be this offended by what I said cause it's true and there's nothing wrong with it.

In their latest tour they closed the show with the real. In the MV Mingi and Wooyoung do the breakdance section, throughout the tour two members would take turns improvising during that part. Then during the last performance in North America, they used the section to square off against their own backup dancers. So cool. As always I have enjoyed following you on your ATINY journey, looking forward to the next one hopefully its either Answer; The Ring; or Mist
