Take a look at the science of how addictive drugs affect your body and why substance addiction can be so difficult to treat.
--
As of 2021, more than 36 million people were estimated to be experiencing substance use disorder. This condition spans a spectrum of patterned drug use that causes issues in a person’s life, with substance addiction at the more severe end. Why are some people more susceptible to addiction, and why can it be so difficult to treat? Judy Grisel takes a look at how addictive drugs affect the body.

I am a recovering alcoholic that drank for 20 years. By the end I was jobless, homeless in my car, and out of options. Luckily, I got help, went to treatment, and am now 13 months sober. To anyone struggling you are not alone and people can and will help you. If I could give anyone advice, if you are detoxing from alcohol go to a hospital or detox center. People can die from alcohol withdrawal, I almost did because I just detoxed by myself. Do not do this, get a professional. Addiction is terrible but only quit if you really want to. The choice is yours, no one can make you and don't quit for someone else. Quit for you.

Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Australia. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them.

Congrats! I'm really happy for you that your wife decided to help you. I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

Please surround yourself with the support you deserve, treat yourself kindly, and let yourself recover at your own pace. Even if you relapse after a period of resistance, you managed to last for even that amount. That means you could last for more. Don't doubt yourself or your worth as a person. Overshare my dad who has since passed, was an addict. It really shaped the way I view drugs or alcohol cuz I know genetically I am prolly predisposed to addiction, so I need to take caution and it is the opposite for friends and even family which feels a bit isolating. I have come to the realization that addiction is totally a disease and thus it requires treatment and counseling but growing up it didn't compute since I didn't have a proper relationship with my dad.

Plenty of people use drugs, alcohol, substances, people places and things and aren’t addicts. I hope anyone watching this who is suffering has the strength to find help, we are not built to handle life alone.

the best thing about addictions is that, it presents two choices in front of oneself, weither be wise or go straight nto the dumpster. ITS A RISK, WITH A LOT OF POTENTIAL!!

I think because i struggle with anxiety, PTSD, and depression so much, I am quite susceptible to addictions. I am practically an addiction collector 🤣 Luckily, no substance abuse though. Have never tried drugs. Still time though.

the payoff for using is fantastic, but there is always a downside. With alcohol I get freedom from anxiety, but it's like the alcohol is *lying* to me because the problems with heavy drinking are felt strongly. ...real health issues, emotionalism, and in the end anxiety.

What "causes" addiction is a complex interplay of genetics, environment, and personality. You can't encapsulate what causes addiction in a 6 min video. This is the neurological reaction to the exposure to drugs, and an explanation of tolerance/dependence, not the cause of addiction.

Is our Genes too an addict? An obsessive compulsive disorder? Pruned by immune system to keep in check? An external "Diction" is society too in a way. As it is said - Independence is consciously being (understand) in Dependency, be it for anything. That's appreciating social links and needs to survive & thrive. We do have Unconscious Dependency too, most of our behaviour from instincts to even thoughts. Fighting these Dictions may not be of much success, rather, becoming aware of them might be a great step ahead. This awareness reduces their intensity of craving and along with targeted & supportive measures, we can allow them to be educed out. Intention, acceptance and gentle taming of the wilderness they say is Living, not just in addiction but in all dictions as well. That help us out of Fiction.
