my guess is because people need to confirm their thoughts and get a ‘nod’ on their thoughts, so they feel they do the right thing. and sometimes the information is just not enough, and people are feeling sad that they can’t confirm what other people are trying to confirm, so they give a quick possibility to them, but when they gave it, people who receive the input are impatient and taking the info as fact rather than a possibility, and for them the info is credible (even though it’s not), and they spread the info as fact to other people, and it spreads. and misinformation getting bigger. and social media take parts in spreading it a step further, because people could easily inform more misinformation like they could easily inform valid information. gotta come back to see if my prediction is correct. edit: so it was about tongue, I got some things right. the media of misinformation turned out to be news and tv (not social media), and turned out umami was the fifth taste. and it mentions a healthy skepticism when it comes to understanding new things which is kinda relate to how I had skepticism about my prediction/guess as it could be correct or not.

This just reinforces my conviction to never trust sources that based their information on something written in a language that is not their own. Many things get lost in translation. One of the reasons why I keep on learning new languages is to finally check the original sources for the things I have learned in school. Right now, I have just been reading 'The Art of War' in Chinese and I have to say that the original source is more fun and a lot simpler. The English version actually contains a lot of interpretation that does not exist in the original text.

Speaking of misconceptions, you said "comprised of" in this video. The simplification of "composed of" and "comprised" into synonyms is a good illustration of the points made above. The words are related but describe two distinct cases: The parts COMPRISE the whole. The whole is COMPOSED OF the parts. Easy litmus test: If you hear "of" after "comprised," it's being used wrong.

I always interpreted the tongue map as where the tastes are felt most intensely because I was never even taught the concept at school. I first learned in college that gustatory buds, which are alllll over the tongue’s surface, absorb chemicals in food and communicate with the brain to interpret the flavor. THEN as I was researching on my own, when I observed the map for the first time (didn’t read about it, sometimes I just search for diagrams on google images to study) it was pretty obvious what Hänig meant. It’s a shame that first thing I learned isn’t taught before the map. If it was, there would be no misconception because it’s common sense.
