I love how Susan smiles when the chorus behind her really lets go; she clearly enjoys them and they feed off each other.
@Changelingheart2 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't you aim for one of her smiles tho? Or Derrick's, too, for that matter.
@MrRubenSchaafsma Жыл бұрын
Or she smiles and thinks; God they are powerfull
@mrkey10033 күн бұрын
Thats not that smile...lead singer needs to hear themselves......but yes she lets it go. - in short! ....many nuances when rehearsing/recording you want to translate on stage too...that chorus is a no no for any lead singer - esp in rehearsal. E1 has to be a sound engineer awareness level in a good band. ..etc

The "backup singer" in purple, Mike Mattison, used to be the lead singer for The Derek Trucks Band. When Derek married Susan Tedeschi, it would have been easy for Mike to leave to find another band to front, he is that good of a singer. But he chose to stay with the new band and I am so glad he did. They seem to really enjoy being together.

I haven't been as excited by a band since the early days of the Dead.... and that's been awhile!
@blainelilly29717 жыл бұрын
I grant you, TTB and the Dead don't seem to have much in common, maybe, but the musicianship...
@NiePieerdol7 жыл бұрын
Space Ghost 53 I felt the same at first, and couldn't understand what's so special about GD. But later, suddenly, i fell in love, and understood that there's nothing to understand ;) In TTB fell in love instantly though
@MrMusicguyma7 жыл бұрын
I'll grant Blaine that the Dead were adventurous ace musicians. I admire their panoramic meld of rock, blues, country, jazz and beyond and their fearless, questing improv. However, Like Space Ghost 53, I have tried for decades to like the Dead , but IMHO Jerry could seldom sing on pitch, making harmonies painful, and even when he was on pitch, his voice was thin and weak. Bob wasn't much better, so the comparison to TTB, is, to me, ludicrous.
@blainelilly29717 жыл бұрын
Since I first discovered the Dead almost 50 years ago, I get it that folks either love 'em or hate 'em. My point simply was that TTB is the first band I've heard since the late Sixties that has captured my interest in the same way. No other comparisons are implied.
@bobbynoe17 жыл бұрын
TTB and GD? - Almost (!) not to compare in their music though both did great songs, and there surely is a musical (and personal) bridge from Allman Brothers - Warren Haynes/Derek Trucks - to Bob Weir, The Dead or Phil Lesh and Friends. Maybe in the end it's the band member's approach to music in general and a special kind of team spirit that makes them enjoy their music and their partnership. Can't feel sad listening to the music of both bands, it's always a flavour of light-heartedness and intensity even in the calm songs as e.g. He's Gone (GD) or Midnight in Harlem (TTB).

At the 2:06-2:20 mark, Susan is so moved by her back up singer that she has John Bell take over the vocals. It's so cool when your own back up singers can emotionally move you as well. Love this song.
@troyoswald56834 жыл бұрын
its possible that John Bell was supposed to take that part of the song. You see him tap hime self on the forehead ; like " crud I missed my mark". I don't know that for sure , just judging his reaction.

This is very nicely done, although the horns were a little bit jarring when they came in. Personally I like Ry Cooder's version best of all, from his old Showtime live record many years ago. It's a teeny bit slower than the original or this one here, there's a great gospel trio doing vocals, and the slide solo from Ry is magnificent.
