Have a listen/look at their performance of Everybody's Talking at Me. Derek plays without a slide for the first half of the song, basically playing a rhythm line while his wife sings. At 2:40, you can see him reach his right hand down quickly and the hand comes up with the slide on his finger (he does it very deftly, it's barely noticeable) and then plays the rest of the song that way. The slide part echoes his wife's vocal, it really "sings". This guy is a true guitar master. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZq6k3V5Zbiiq7c

Remember - Derek plays everything in open E tuning, not just the slide guitar. If you watch, you can see what he does to hit those bluesy Santana notes. It's crazy. He said he's been doing that for so long that when he's handed a guitar in standard tuning it feels like a different instrument. "I feel like a beginner." God bless ya, kid. You are awesome.

Now Michael Jackson got printed credits in the liners just for snapping lol, so cardboard drummer should get some clout too 😊 love seeing you guys! If only I could afford a ticket, I’d be St Augustine bound! Maybe next year. So bummed 🙁 but maybe TTB will come back w full band or do the Wheels of Soul Tour again. My memory is that he was really a nice guy, and I enjoyed talking with him for a short time. I remember watching him play and being in awe of his abilities, and he was very humble about his prowess.
