In this episode of Tuna on Toast, Ted Stryker welcomes Davey Havok to the Tuna On Toast studio to celebrate life and 30 years of AFI in this in depth and fun interview.
For this episode, it's the Avocado on Toast studio :)
Stryker and Davey cover so much ground, from AFI, Blaqk Audio and Dreamcar, to funny late night Hollywood stories and a ton more!
Davey tells Stryker how he injured his throat during quarantine, what the diagnosis eventually was, and how it's healed.
The guys talk about the big New Years Eve Blaqk Audio Show coming up and Davey actually surprises Stryker with his answer to the question about Blaqk Audio rehearsals (or lack thereof). He explains how he and Jade Puget get ready for their BA shows.
Davey tells Stryker a great story of his Katy Perry encounter including a situation that went down at her show when Davey was rocking a beautiful raspberry red Marc Jacobs suit.
Davey then explains to Stryker why he constantly creates, where that passion comes from, and what album he received for his 5th birthday.
Davey discusses with Stryker growing up in Ukiah with guys like Adam Carson, Jade and Nic 13 and the life journey that took him there.
Davey tells another great and funny story about the time he met Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Hawaii.
Davey and Stryker talk about when AFI moved to Berkeley, and the first time playing 924 Gilman Street and jumping on stage to play a few songs during a Rancid show.
Stryker and Davey then discuss early AFI albums and what the legendary concert booker Stormy Shepherd told Davey when he asked her to book AFI.
Both Stryker and Davey attempt to recall a night many years ago in Hollywood that involved supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio and the very fun Chambers Brothers.
Davey talks about meeting with and signing to a major label and what that experience was like.
The guys chat about the All Hallow's EP, the Total Immortal video, The Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow and decemberunderground and what the avalanche of success was like.
Davey and Stryker also chat about Dreamcar and the possibility of creating more music with Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont.
Davey reveals to Stryker his favorite AFI album and the guys talk about the upcoming AFI bodies tour.
The new AFI merch (some designed by Skinhead Rob Aston) is fantastic, be on the lookout for the different releases to celebrate 30 years of AFI.
So much ground was covered, the above text are just a few of the highlights of the interview.
Davey is such a powerful and sweet man that has always stuck to his guns.
He is a true artist and a great dude. Thank you so much for watching this episode of Tuna on Toast.....Avocado on Toast.

I would love more Dreamcar too. Even if it can't exist furthermore under full LPs and it's the occasional song or EP. Granted music is something that everyone has a different opinion on, but I prefer Dreamcar to AFI's discography following Crash Love, and near the entirety of Blaqk Audio - which debatably exists now as a passion project than a commercially vial outlet.

I ran into Davey back around October at a show in Los Angeles and chatted with him for a good ten minutes or so. He's such a sweetheart. I asked him about Son of Sam and if there would be any possibility working with at least Steve Zing and London May again, to which he said that he wouldn't feel comfortable pursuing again since Todd Youth was the main songwriter for that project. He then went on to tell me that the artwork for the album was supposed to be completely different from the gal that we got..I think he mentioned it was supposed to be a man with goat legs? Pretty much an evil Faun. Either way, as another user mentioned, it's so awesome to hear him talk of that project nearly 21 years later. Perhaps the first time he's mentioned it on video? I could be wrong.

Umm, this is for real?! I couldn't even imagine meeting Davey Havok, or any other member of AFI. Ok, wow. . I'm in shock. This feels so real

Met Davey at 924 Gilman St. I used to hang out there all the time. Awe, the good ole days! Never forget the time at Bottom of the Hill when AFI played as The Boys Who Destroyed the World. Such a fun small show. Now we’re all about or in our 40’s! 😜

Great interview. My first time seeing AFI was when they opened up for Dance Hall Crashers & No Use For A Name. Mid 90’s. Wanna say 96-97. I was hooked.

Those were great times and we didnt even realize it at the time, I saw them in late 95 when they were basically unknown. Tiny grange hall in Nevada City with maybe 30 people there at most. Moshing with Davey and the rest of the band for 2 hours straight. Afterwards they hung out with everyone BS'ed, and signed stuff

Son of Sam mentioned! Such an underrated album, especially if you're a Samhain/MIsfits fan. It was the closest we'd ever get to an AFI/Danzig universe collision.

My favorite Davey side project. According to Steve Zing, the other members of AFI weren't happy about it so that's a shame
