@@J.Gainez I wish I was from Germany, I'd atleast have a living standard and cheaper fuel. I'm not defending german cars, they managed to pump out some horrible cars. But most of them are indestructible, and almost last forever with proper maintenance. Especially their diesel engines. Japan does a way better job with petrol engines, but it all depends on the country. Here in Serbia, japanese parts are crazy expensive because of some tax our country takes on importing anything from Japan, and sadly thats why almost everyone avoids buying japanese cars. I was a Honda mechanic ( and worked at Honda Mfg) for a long time. I’ve just recently bought a e90 M3. Yes, amazing car, disaster in maintenance. But, something I completely expected. Right when I got the car home, spent around $8k to fix several things that needed to be touched up (rod bearings of course, valve cover gasket, fuel flow sensor, diff seal, gear box oil, motor mounts, front lower control arms, brakes all around). With only 80k miles. Ya it sucks a bit, but so far I am extremely happy. I don’t plan on doing more than 5k miles a year on it. Let’s see how things go in the next year.

Makes me think of my Volvos, my S60 all the suddenly got an ABS sensor issue (beginning of summer), replaced the sensor, but it didn’t really fix it, so I look in to it a bit but didn’t really have the time to do a lot. Then while on the way down to Skåne (from Gothenburg), the dash lit up and i got a “brake failure stop immediately” and then the speedometer stoped reading, and the it went back and forth. Check the codes and the BCM (brake control module) had communication issues (was basically failing, the solders eventually crack), so ended up buying a used one and sent the car of to the shop for reprograming (I’m eventually going to fix the old one). Than it turns out the AC compressor on my parents V70 is leaking. And than my S60 started to have some weird vibrations, felt like engine mounts, replaced the upper mount, took it for a test drive and blew up the differential and blew a drive shaft clean off at the inner CV joint, spent a week on the ground trying to the the inner half of the drive shaft out, but it was stuck, my dad thought i wasn’t hitting it hard enough with the hammer and he tried to hammer it out and proceeded to smash his thumb with the hammer. So off to the shop it was to get a new drive shaft and M56 transmission. While the S60 was down, my parents other V70 (a 2006 Bi-fuel) had the front oxygen sensor fail, so replaced that, pretty easy on the N/A 5 cylinders. Got the S60 back and took the V50 down to Skåne and then a upper rear damper mount failed when my mom drove over a speed bump a bit quickly and then we had to limp it around and home with a “banging noise”, got it home lifted it up and put it on jack stands, managed to get the S60 in to the garage, up the steep snowy drive way on summer tires and get the tires switched to the winter set. Drove it to pick up a package and got back the car and the tires were flat… turns out the were leaking. Pulled the damper out and it broke when took it out, so i had to buy new dampers, bought a set of Bilstein rear dampers.

Oil dipstick, alternator , negative battery sensor(the one that monitors charging and battery temps called IBS) and electric coolant sensor run on a separate bus, called BSD which is a serial data bus(Bit-Serial-Data), meaning that, whenever one of these 4 devices break, none of them work anymore. I had the same on my N52 BMW, and it turned out also that alternator was bad on BSD interface, it charged 14v flat, when normally it varies from 14.8 to 13.4v depending on battery status, DME demands, etc. Once the BSD goes bad, it just charges like a raw alternator and oil level stops working, also coolant temps will not show or show invalid data. Once I replaced the diode bridge (didn't replace the whole thing) everything returned to normal including oil sensor. Other common fault is IBS sensor going bad , breaking the BSD interface. Most people just unplug it from the battery terminal so alternator would work like a "normal" one. PS: not everyday it happens to see a M car with no lights on the dash, congrats on that !

Man this video honestly could not have been better timed because after dealing with these issues for over a year now with my 2008 S4, I know how frustrating it can be to have an issue that can't simply be fixed by replacing a part. With electrical issues, there can so much trouble shooting involved and the scary think is that you may never figure out what the actual issue is. I am glad everything worked out for you and you were able to fix all your little annoyances with your vehicle.

Hey man, I'm in Worcester, and I have a vibration in my e60 starts vibration at 60 mph, bad at 65, starts to go away around 70, gone at 85 ... odd..... and annoying, and getting worse! Also had to change my alt... x2 ... it seemed like a small issue, but apparently this car is very very picky... about everthing ..Love the vids,and Honda is ok lol!

What do you think about daily driving a 140k mile stage fp tuned n52? It’s been reliable so far but I don’t know how much longer my luck will last
@AX5Z2 жыл бұрын
I have a 165k mile E92. No issues at all, electrical or mechanical. Knock on wood but this car has been incredibly reliable to me. It's an N52 though.

Hey Tedward, what are your opinions on e92 330i 6mt as daily reliability-wise?.
@samdupont8418 Жыл бұрын
@tedwarddrives Just came across this video, have potentially similar issue w/ a '07 base spec 328i. Curious for more detail on specifics of the driveline vibration to see if it compares to what I am chasing. I had a new driveshaft installed from a reputable aftermarket source , new giubo, etc, and still getting thrumming in the seat and floorpan at 65+ mph. Have chased alignment, changing tires, engine/tranny mounts. Driving me nuts!

Get a 2014-2015 Z/28. I sold my E92 Comp M3 for one and it’s sooooo much better. Gotta watch that front splitter but that’s the only downside.

Uff the worst thing is when you're not sure if something is actually broken, for example after washing my car (in cold weather) and having it sit in a cold garage for a few days, when I drive it and park somewhere and turn it off it starts steaming from the front grill slightly, this drives me mad and I go and repeat the same thing a couple of times, but it never happens again, this literally drives me mad since the steam has no smell, when I open the hood there is no evidence of leaks what so ever, this only happens when i turn it off...

have you ever considered getting a Lexus ISF? Great daily and will be a reliable fun car

Hey Ted great video, Im planning on buying an e92 m3 soon, I found one with 40k miles for $34k, do you have any suggestions on what I should schedule for maintenance (other than rod bearing service) which I am planning on doing a preventative fix
@jmoe20602 жыл бұрын
Blackstone oil analysis is your friend. A 40k e92 M3 likely doesn't need rod bearing replacement.

I want my lexus first, then a BMW e92 or e46 for a sunday drive I use to drive a 3 series love that engine. i sort of want one car to drive everyday where i can fix it up too as well, but a sunday drive sporty and a bit luxrious.

The Honda sounds like a really smart plan for a daily car. I've never thought of high performance cars like M3s or M5s as true daily cars/20 thousand miles a year. Definitely a good alternate car to have in your back pocket when you get bored of your average, bland daily lol

I can only imagine how bad it feels to own an M3 daily driver, and when it is down being forced to drive a MAYBACH... real pain.

I think you will miss that S65. I would keep it and do videos on striping it out and turning it into a track car. Think how much fun that car would be on the track without all the weight.

Once a chonker, always a chonker... there's only so much to strip out
@danmcgowan47612 жыл бұрын
True, but I would still keep it and try and go for the Team Schirmer or Turner motor sports E-92.. if I had the cash. There will never be another engine like that S65!

I would never drive a car I cared about on salted roads. It then becomes just a sacrificial anode.
