It's time for an extended video format from Tedward. Just him driving and talking about whatever for about 45-90 minutes. Similar to what the podcast was, but in video format. And if this ever happens, do not trim the silences, nothing wrong with just driving around with you for a couple minutes without talking.

Your view on classic cars reminds me of a story about my uncle. He had a very nice, high quality vintage fishing rod that looked brand spanking new. On one fishing trip, one of my brothers or I worked up the courage to ask him how he was able to keep his old fishing rod in such great condition. He started telling us how thoroughly and carefully it should be looked after. He let us into a world of fishing rod maintenance we didn't even know existed. Then, he paused. His wisdom was still sinking in, so we all stayed silent. Finally he said, "Well, you just never use it." Limiting exposure.

hi ted, i struggle with diagnosed anxiety and going for a drive in my 228i can always help to clear my head. but of course there are always moments of extreme frustration on the wheel just like you expressed in this video. i just want to express my appreciation for all of the amazing relatable content you put out. it helps me to understand that i am not alone in my battle against my head!!

Dude, I agree with everything you said…from the anxiety part, to when to drive our ‘88 911‘s, and how good of therapy it is to get into the car, no radio playing, just listening to all the sounds of the car and taking in all the smells.. it puts my focus on driving and off of the everyday crap.

So true, Tedward. I don't like driving my 87 3.2 on high anxiety days. I have to be in relax mode to enjoy driving it. Else, its kind of frustrating. Folks don't really talk about that aspect of vintage 911 ownership. Its a thing....

These 911’s from the 70’s and 80’s were just so perfect to drive, even without a turbo it was so enjoyable (unless you spun out). What always was most impressive about Porsche’s from the 70’s and 80’s was the level of build quality. They were always expensive, but you knew you buying the best of the best.

Regarding that edgy feeling, try Ashwagandha, (pure plant powder instead of extract). Aside it bringing you in balance, it also brings many other health benefits. Another thing, if you drink coffee, substitute with decaffeinated products, same for tea. Doing both things helped me a lot.

Sounds like you need a few more drives still Tedward...lol. I totally get what you are saying though, I have a lot of struggles with anxiety and depression myself and driving is one of the only ways I can really relax sometimes. Unfortunately after putting a few grand into my car this spring fixing some paint and body stuff I had been saving up for it promptly had 2 significant break downs last month and is still sitting in the shop waiting on a transfer case...so it's kind of the opposite of relaxing for me right now seeing my savings dissappear...lol. Such is car life. I'll just have to keep living vicariously through yours and others driving videos for now...lol. As for your comments on having empty roads and also civilization, that's what's nice about the Midwest, I live in a city in Iowa that is typically one of the better rated places to live in the country yet I'm 10 minutes from the middle of nowhere at any given time...lol

I live live in Massachusetts and head up to northern NH for rest, relaxation and a very low police to road mile ratio. Having a robust suspension with all the potholes in Massachusetts is frustrating, the drivers are distracted, and speeds are low - as I head North the traffic and anxiety drops away.

Living in Texas, we've got mostly straight roads with very few fun turns. However there are always a few gems that help me relax. Lime Creek Road, Cow Creek Road, and a few others out in the hill country help me decompress. It's great to see others doing the same thing and still staying within safe speeds (spirited, but safe). They're often far enough out that the folk who would drive around while on their phone don't bother with the trek.

Not sure how old you are Ted, but as I get older, my ability to deal with bs is less and less. I hate to think that some day I will be that old guy yelling "get off my lawn!", but I feel it coming. I also know what it means to work so hard and for so long that you even get frustrated with the fear of missing out on life and doing more exciting things than the daily grind. Being able to relax get's difficult and sometimes when on vacation it takes me 3-4 days just to start to calm down and then it's all over and back to the grind. Driving is good for the soul, but it's got to be relatively easy to get to your favorite roads too. Otherwise it just becomes another hassle to deal with and the amount of effort versus the amount of reward becomes a big factor in the enjoyment of the car. Fortunate for me that I am only 10 minutes to some of the best canyon carving roads here in Southern California, but the joy and adrenaline can only last for so long before reality and the daily BS kick in again. From a outsider's persepective and true car enthusiast, it is awesome to get to experience all the different cars that you do! Keep up the great work and hoping you can find more of that joy in your daily routine, not just when driving Porsche GT3 RS' 👍🏼👍🏼😉😉

I was smashed into while in my first 944 that was also my first car. First accident I was in where I was driving, and one of many accidents I’ve been in while other people were driving (none of them our fault, we were always hit). I’m not talking Mickey Mouse fender benders either I’m talking proper complete violent accidents. And I’m 25 for fucks sake. The way people disregard other human life on the road blows my mind. Driving for me used to be therapeutic. I loved taking my 944 out in the mornings on a Saturday or Sunday. I’m also an avid believer in owning a car to drive it. That’s why even after all this I force myself to daily my replacement car, an 86 944. But holy shit can I not just have one day in my life, where people don’t cut me off, where they don’t pull right up to my bumper at a light, where they don’t ride my ass while im doing 50 in the right lane and the left lane is wide the fuck open. The amount of times I’ve had to eye my rear view mirror as someone is pulling up behind me to move forward because they’re not paying any attention, or worse, they’re deliberately trying to get as fucking close as possible to my rear bumper is insane. I’m at the point where I’m seriously considering garaging the 944 and just getting a B8 A4 or something. I share your frustrations and I find comfort in someone like you with a large platform saying the things I say in my head every single day. I keep trying to respect the drive man, but if one more person swerves into my lane or does any more of the aforementioned atrocities it makes me wish I could just drop a couple gears and triple digit myself and my car as far away as possible from every idiot I encounter so I can just get to where I’m going intact.

5:55 Annoys me incredibly about people. Driving expensive cars with built in hands free systems and being too dumb to use it. No matter which big SUV i see, or Tesla, everybody holds their stupid phone to the ear... Fines are just too low where i live with 40€ Distraction is the biggest cause of accidents now, having surpassed driving under influence of substances and speeding. But today on my way home from work i encounteres an pure a$$hole. Driving an RSQ8 and holding up traffic, driving 50 in a 70 zone (kph) and then when someone wanted to overtake him because the 70 zone ended and it was 100 now, he suddenly moved into the middle of the road and made overtaking impossible, but kept going slow, annoying everybody behind him (or at least me being the second car behind him) And he didn't even use his phone, he just liked being an a$$hole apparently. Edit: i fully support your rant about intoxicated drivers! (can't give more thumbs up, but i would!) Little story about someone driving high: A few years ago in the nearest city to where i live, someone got high, removed the airbag fuse of his SUV, and headed for a pedestrian zone in the city center. It was summer and many people were sitting under sunshades outside restaurants. He aimed for anyone he could see. Caused 28 injured (some so heavily that they need permanent care) and 4 dead. After that he stopped his car in front of a police station and waited to get arrested. Any time i hear someone telling me that "smoking that stuff makes people peacefull" i remember this incident...

Nice rant. Was that meant to be your therapy? Here's some free advice ....Stop worrying about other people. Drive defensively, yes, but don't think for everyone. Stupid will do stupid, you can't change them. Worry only about the things you can control, not those beyond your control. Avoid news media like the plague. Keep your world 'small' and protect your loved ones, cherish your friends and family. Get plenty of rest and eat right. Call your mother. Drive your car and listen to a favorite podcast or books, but don't sweat if you miss something, you're driving after all. How do i know these things will help? Because I'm... Middle aged man. Bonus points... Remember, everyone has their own story. That lady taking on the phone, maybe she's learning she lost someone, maybe she has been through hell and back. Everyone. Has a story, and until you know for sure they're axe murderers or put pineapple on pizza give them respect, even if your first thought is that of contempt. Train yourself to have empathy for everyone. Most importantly, practice thankfulness. Remind yourself every morning, afternoon, evening, how blessed and fortunate you are. Be thankful for your intelligence, be thankful that every day you gain wisdom, that you have shelter, nice cars, health and safety. Build karma and positivity and share your good vibes with everyone you meet, and even those your never meet. Wish them well on their journey through life. Be better, try to be better, everyday. Make sure you do community service, donate, recycle, help those in need. You're welcome.

I went down to visit family in Southern GA this weekend in my IS 500, and honestly, having the open farm roads to be able to use the power got old after a couple times. There were too many State Troopers around, and the roads were not the smoothest. But! There is something magical about looking to the left and right and just seeing open farmland, and then, I just cruise with some music on. That kind of driving has its place, too!

It sounds like you need to take a vacation to Germany. Because of a business trip, I've spent the last two weekends driving around Bavaria, where many of the B-roads have 60 mph speed limits, and many of the Autobahns still have unlimited stretches. The cars are so competent! Even my humble 1.5 liter turbo'd VW T-Roc ( aka Taos in the US) was a comfortable 110-plus mph cruiser. You will also see many of the cars that you cover on your channel being driven around. Just this weekend, I've seen a Merc 300SL Gull-wing, a BMW 3.0 CSL, a few Lambos, Aston Healys, a Merc Pagoda, A BMW V12 coupe, and countless other Mercedes AMGs, BMW's and Porsches.

We live in a region where you only need to go 10-15 minutes to find nice back roads through hills to wineries and other destinations, yet most non-car people (which are really most people) can't figure out why one would drive recreationally (i.e., without having to go somewhere like Walmart, Target, or taking kids to soccer games). So the existence of sports cars, Jeeps, etc, is still puzzling to much of the suburban world. I can feel what Tedward is going through on a day to day basis.

I completely agree with the sentiment about limiting your exposure to classic cars. I took my Alfa Romeo Spider out last night for a drive and the past few drives I keep thinking about what I could replace it with. Is it no longer meeting my needs? I can't say that's true at all, but what I do think is true is that I'm not giving it the roads/situations where it shines best. I need to be conscious about when and where I apply the classic life to avoid driving it just being a slog of the classic pitfalls, which, if you do only experience the bad parts of a classic car, will make you really not like it.

American driving is the only think that makes me stressed out. People treat yield signs like stop signs and stop signs like yield signs, they don't keep right, they drive massive trucks for no reason, constantly on their phones, etc. I've driven in the Philippines and India too btw -- at least people there know how to operate their vehicles.

Haha the woes of classic car ownership are too real! I feel the same way in my 92 Miata, on nice days it's the greatest machine ever made! Jinba Itai bro! But, on less than stellar days, it feels like my car is slower than shit, and everyone on the road is out to murder me D: there's definitely a lesson to be learned here imo that sometimes your dream car is actually a 200,000 Honda Fit with a dented fender lmao
