What a marvelous innovation, the applications for human tele-presence of this kind are as wide as the imagination can stretch.

Tragedy the Geminoid-DK wasn't working properly for this presentation. I can tell he was dodging lots of malfunctions during the presentation. Unfortunately, he failed to acknowledge and redirect the failures - they became a centerpoint of the presentation with his message being just a backdrop to the "aww, I really wanted to see the real professor get out of the chair!" moment. I think we can be there today if everyone works together better and puts emphasis on the real challenges facing these.

the curios case of benjamin button, he was born as an old man in 2011, what the hell? The cost of the robot + lab equipment adds up to roughly 1 000 000 DKK

Transportation would be so much easier with androids! They can easily upload their software and information into another body in another continent in minutes!

Let’s make a computer to respond to basic questions where it’s answers are pre-programmed to recognize. This isn’t A-I, this is about as sophisticated as Siri; tell me a joke, find me a place to eat, what’s the weather like? Lol, this is literally just a computer that looks like a human.

The robot is using pretty old technology. People like it because the facial hair looks neat. Nothing better has come along since 2011, and now in 2015 there is just nothing great going on. The speaker in this TED Talk is really, really boring because he rambles on about philosophical gibberish no one cares about. I'm sure he's smart, but why is he telling us a scifi story about his future? Why not just show us what's INSIDE the robot and how to make more of them? Why not tell us WHY he built it and what he's working on next? Is the speaker just there to sell books? I want to be inspired, not listen to someone rambling randomly.

There have definitely been advancements between 2011 and now that may not be available to the general public or at least not being publicized in the same way. i doubt theyd go this far and halt the research or funding when it's been in motion since like 1980

Well maybe you need to open your mind, this is not a hollywood movie. The reason he tells us this story, is for us to understand his vision for the future. Why we need to improve this type of robots, not just copy them. If you want to be inspired, be open minded. Last but not least, he stoped working on this program because the university of Aalborg kept shutting down his new project. Maybe thats why we haven't seen any progress.

the androids havent gotten much better since 2011 because there is no incentive with the lack of AI first we build true ai then there is incentive for companies to build these machines
