Renowned performer Vienna Teng discusses music and her heritage in this talk.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Green Island Serenade is one of those songs that I simply cannot skip if it comes up on my ipod. And it represents a whole lot to me beyond the understanding of the words. I'm trying out with Eric's Song for college choir this fall, which is one of my most cherished songs that she's written and I sang Soon Love Soon, which is about a long term hope for peace, with my closest friends in my choir show last spring. Vienna has a wonderful way of thinking, writing, and expressing herself.

I completely agree. There was an American culture, with values, and morals, from a time gone by (at least since the 60s or 70s I would argue) and it seems as if it is lost and we will never be the same. I feel some certain sadness that we will no longer be the great nation we once were. People will still want to immigrate here, but they will likely never know or understand what made this country what it is (or what it once was), and why they are really coming here. Greed was definitely the cause

How interesting, that is how I fill about the USA. We can't seem to go back to the good old days when americans could have a good job that had security and your high school diploma is all you needed along with your values of hard work and love for family. Today a child has a future of 16 years of school or more, followed by work that may last until you are 70. Why did we let greep ruin the dream. Money is the God we must not kneel to.

Love the first song! However, Taiwan is not a country though .. for your information, the official name of country that now resides on the island of Taiwan is still the Republic of China. It's on the passport, its biils, the residents' id cards, etc.

Actually the "Republic of China" is different from the "People's Republic of China". While the first is the name the Taiwanese government chose for a Taiwanese state, the latter is the term used by the mainland Chinese government to describe all areas they believe belong to "One China". However, stating that Taiwan is not a country sounds a bit like announcing the US is not a country because it's should be "United States of America".
